Was cutting some zip ties out from under my passenger seat where I had tied up some led lights and wasn’t paying attention and cut through the yellow srs cable on accident. Of course srs warning light is on. It was cut about 10 inches behind the harness. Towards the back. How expensive is this repair/replacement???

Not sure I can do this with srs. Saw online somewhere a that it’s a real hazard for safety malfunctions. Not sure if that’s correct though.

Is it not possible to reconnect the wires? Several options for this from soldering to the many types of solder-less connectors. If it is too short, you can just add in a small length of the same gauge wire.

I would slip a heat shrink on the longer of the ends, strip, braid, solder, shrink. Good as new!

I think that this is VERY important! Otherwise it could become expensive and ...uncomfortable.

Well if he doesn’t, then it will test if his work was of journeyman level. :D

You could always call the dealership parts department for a replacement harness. Probably not over a couple hundred dollars. At this point it might be worth it to you for a piece of mind.

I was just thinking that if somehow a bag deployment was accidentally triggered during repair...that would hurt.

Might I recommend the butt splices that feature a ball of solder inside and are covered with a heat-shrinkable jacket?

You apply heat from a heat gun. Spraynard has enjoyed great success with those.

Passenger seat airbag will not function with an empty seat.

Unplug the battery. Disconnect the plug and solder the wires back together. Plug it back in and connect the battery. Should be fine.

I think there is something about the srs wires(s) that recommend to replace the entire harness - about the resistance being altered with an attempted repair? Not sure how patching the wire could interrupt resistance if you utilize same gauge wire, etc but I guess it’s worth a try. Can’t imagine that an attempted repair would cause anything other than keeping the light on. Just make sure, like others have said, to disconnect the battery first.

Could be on to something here.

Call the parts department tomorrow and let us know what you find.
