Hello Everyone, I’ve seen a lot of posts and YouTube videos about the problems and reviews on the new Tundra. This is just my take after owing it for a week.

    Likes.

    - Powertrain. I think this is one of the best if not the best tuned power train. Doesn’t rev live crazy and has a lot of torque down low. Transmission shift points are perfect for me.

    - Comfort. This is a debatable topic as each and everyone has their perspective. For me, I love it. It’s decently equipped for a base model.

    Dislikes.

    - Oil pressure gage. I need to get used to seeing low pressures on highway speeds. I’ve heard it’s just the way Toyota tuned it and it’s not actually harmful. However, I prefer the traditional way where the needle in the middle. This would tell when the pressure get low your pump is failing or if there is a leak.

    - mine didn’t come with blind spot monitor. Doing a shoulder check is not easy. Can’t see much.

    - manual. The printed manual is a joke. Doesn’t cover important features like remote start. No maintenance schedule. Now do we have to rely on the dealers who are going to try and up sell everything.

    - infotainment. Car play works great. But I couldn’t figure out Toyota assist. When I say “ hey Toyota call Jimmy” it says please connect a phone. Which is already connected ☹️

Can someone please throw some light on the infotainment please.

    Thanks

And here I thought nothing could be worse than the 2.5 gen manual.

Come to think of it, my maintenance schedule is just printed on a separate sheet of paper. Maybe see if your dealer has one of these they can give you.

If you’re using Carplay, just use Siri. The Toyota assistant will have that function if you change your phone from Carplay to bluetooth. You can use that hey toyota function for other things like changing radio stations.
For the oil pressure L is low, plus you get a red warning on the middle display that will tell you oil pressure is low. The oil pressure is more realistic it seems and less like a dummy gauge.

I never had issues with messaging in my 2018 SR5. I will say Apple has really gone to shit with their vetting of software before releasing updates.

If you have an iPhone, you can download the manual in PDF on this website then save to iBooks. This is really helpful for me me as you can search key terms you’re looking for. I just looked one up and it was like 620 pages.
I’m sure there’s a similar process for android as well, I just don’t know what it is.

I take it you have never driven/owned a diesel. I prefer knowing exactly what the real pressures/temps are.

You are right. I’ve never owned a diesel. All my trucks were gas. Ford, Chevy and Titan. I got used to seeing the oil pressure sitting in the middle. My Chevy had a weak pump. Pressure was getting low. Would show exactly how the current Tundra is showing is highway speeds. That bothers me.

Yeah. And there’s no printed additional sheets. All I could find is fluid capacities.

This what I’m talking about. To me the oil pressure looks low in highway speeds. Do you guys see the same reading. ECADB5B4-2ED4-4BDE-8FD5-D3A00675B1E4.jpg

Lol do you even know what you’re talking about? Oil pressure is function of engine rpm because the oil pump is on the crank. It would make sense that 1500 rpm oil pressure is at the 1/4 mark and goes up when engine rpms go up. Keeping the oil pressure and constant 1/4 mark means nothing.

It doesn’t even have any numbers!! How could you possibly know what the oil pressure is and what value is good. Even your 2007 Tundra oil pressure gauge has no meaning.

The oil gauge makes sense to me. It under normal conditions shows from 1/4 to 3/4. Makes sense to me.

There’s infotainment updates coming this next month. I would wait out any issues before getting to bothered by it.

You need to measure the actual oil pressure value because the needle doesn’t mean anything. You’re assuming that the middle line means it’s at 80 psi or whatever constantly but that’s not the case. The pressure should change dynamically and linearly with rpm.

There hasn't been a pickup built in the last 30 years, diesel or gas, with an oil pressure gauge that showed the actual pressure. They've all been programmed with various algorithms designed to show what the engineers think the driver wants to see. The only real indication of oil pressure is the light, if it's on then you've got problems.

If you want to know the real oil pressure then you'll have to fit a manual gauge to it. The factory gauge is basically a pacifier.

I can understand the low oil gauge issue, but it is the way Toyota's have always displayed oil pressure after having a couple Toyota trucks will well over 200,000 miles and one truck that I sold that got over 400,000 miles I convinced myself that it was ok.

It seems the 1st gen had the oil pressure needle at 1/4, then 2nd gen switched to 1/2 position, then 3rd gen went back to 1/4. My 80 series LC splits it into thirds and the gauge sits are 1/3 below 1500 rpm.
