I never considered the Gen 2 Sequoia either until my dim brain figured out the workhorse 4.7l 4Runner had to be upgraded for towing. A month of jumbo used SUV research determined the used 2G Sequoia was a no-brainer. It had everything needed as an upgraded workhorse even in the base SR5 trim. Yep, current used prices are way crazy, though.

3rd Gen cargo area is disappointing. The combination of SRA and hybrid battery cuts the volume pretty dramatically. That's a big deal to me. Easy to see the height difference from floor to ceiling.
I can see it as an LC200 replacement. MTS, Crawl Control, rear locker with TRD Offroad package available on all trims. Should have more interior volume than the LC300. LC300 is 196" long and 112" wheelbase. 2G Sequoia is 205" long and 122" wheelbase. I guess the object was to grab the Land Cruiser market and try at the same time to grab some more of the jumbo SUV market.
Surprisingly, the 2G Sequoia has the same turning circle as the 4Runner. Also a bit more stock ground clearance. Does not have A-TRAC though, so a win for the 3rd Gen vs 2nd Gen. Unknown if the 3G Sequoia will have a tight turning circle.
Lack of fulltime 4HI is disappointing to me. Such a nice feature in the 2nd Gen. Proven to be very durable for millions of miles, now blam, it's gone. Somebody that loves market surveys listened to people that don't know jackshit.
Not a possible loss, definite loss.

at 39:43 mark Sweers says "allows us to tow up to 9000lbs at this time" so even he hints it might go up. Maybe just a higher rating as testing continues? Maybe another engine? I'd be shocked if it was another powertrain as he's been keen on pointing out all the efficiencies of one powertrain and sharing everything with the Tundra

Yea maybe it's just the 409hp Landcruiser tune on the same engine.

When I first saw the shelving system in the back I thought it was pretty stupid.
But when I realized the position of the battery, what choice did they have?
If I had the Sequoia I would have the shelf on the lowest position.
I think it is something I could learn to live with

Electric diesel hybrid has been rumored! I believe the Tacoma has tossed around a possible high compression diesel. Who knows at this point

Look at 29 min they mentioned a more powerful power plant. So who knows. I hear South Korea just had a fusion breakthrough recently.

This is one of the reasons I'm now leaning away from the Sequoia. The third row may be decent for fitting teens or adults, but there is NO room behind the 3rd row for anything. One of the things I really like about the STD wheelbase Wagoneer, and long wheelbase Ford or GM Surburban. What's the use of a 3rd row with ZERO cargo capacity? BIG schwing and miss on TMC's part. If I do decide to forgo the topper on the Tundra and go for a fullsize SUV, it will be the Wagoneer.

I drive a Tundra because there is not enough cargo space in the back of an SUV, even with the third row down. Only way I would even consider going back to an SUV in the future would be if it was Suburban length.

That was a decent discussion. I can understand Toyota's decision making process. Sequoia was a low-volume seller and not a cost-efficient assembly line at the Indiana plant. Superb build quality from the Indiana plant, no doubt about that. Gen 1 Tundra was built there also. But streamlining assembly into San Antonio was a good business decision.

Streamlining assembly with the Tundra was obviously a goal, parts sharing, yada yada. Emulating the Land Cruiser was a goal. Land Cruiser was a very low volume seller also. Pundits can complain about it being NLA but only 4000 units were bought in the US and Canada in 2021 and it's been the same for the past 15 years. 3rd Gen Sequoia maybe does a decent job bridging the gaps between the 4Runner, LC300, GX600. It does a little bit of this and a little bit of that from each.

Toyota has been bleeding money in the truck segment I think. Replacing 200,000 frames must have cut profit margin to near zil. Then building a new plant in Guanajuato for the Tacoma and new 4Runner, retooling San Antonio, they needed the Sequoia to continue. Vacating the fullsize SUV segment would have been a major embarrassment.

Just speculating here. Would the extended version have enough space inside the frame to hide the battery pack? I want to be excited about the new Sequoia, especially the TRD Pro, but it it can’t be my only vehicle due to the cargo space limitations.

Who exactly is desperately seeking validation? I shared the source, guessed diesel. It's due to Sweers saying he loves them, Toyota North America releasing that diesel vid, and as another member posted the LC is getting a diesel.

I also highlighted that the engine upgrade could just be a better tune, which would give output numbers the LC currently has.

I'm not saying you were talking about me, but I am confused as to what specifically your referring to.

As of right now, per that video from Sweers, they aren't making an "XL" version. So the 3rd row config you see is the only model they say will be offered.

Hypothetically if they did offer an XL, I doubt they would throw all that extra weight right around the hitch. That would not have a good impact on towing capacity I believe due to what your rear axel is rated for.

Don’t worry about it 1up. Some have forgotten others are allowed to have an opinion so they will do whatever they can to tear you down to their level. I’m not even going to try and guess why there was so much frustration for this guy around your post but one thing is clear to everyone. You aren’t being rude but this guy certainly was. On another note: I’m currently in line to get my kids some donuts and haven’t seen a single person that actually looks like they need them including me!

Sequoia Moon edition. I hear these seats do not fold flat either. Per Sweers who polled all the moon Martians, an XL version and flat rear cargo space even though they are best selling features in this segment are not what users really want. It's all about moon pod garage space.

    Tow hook status unknown.
