Ok I need some input please. 4Hi will engage but the 4HI light flashes and it will not shift into 4LO. Both the front axle and transfer case actuators have been recently replaced but my 4WD is still messed up. Any thoughts?

    It's good
Are you in park or neutral when trying to shift into 4 lo?

I swear we need a dedicated "go here to troubleshoot your 4WD issues". I've counted, we've already had 20 newbies show up with 4WD problems. Out of all of them we've helped, I think 1 has stuck around afterward? If I had a dollar for every time ...

OP, hopefully you stick around after. I realize this is a hell of a lot of reading, but you may want to check out @Tundra2's thread, which is 55 pages interlaced with how he got his 4WD working. https://www.tundras.com/threads/crackhead-resurrection.94083/page-55#post-2581122

How many sticky threads is too many?
Think 4wd would be a good one.
I've been wanting to put together a thread to sticky for what to look for when buying a 1st gen. Just haven't had the time.

    Both are good ideas.

This is how I've been tackling stuff at work the last decade to optimize shit.

Top 3 most common requests. Top 3 most time consuming tasks. Top 3 most redundant jobs.

1st one to build self-service solutions. 2nd to find optimizations or processes to simplify shit. Latter to look for automation opportunities.

I feel like it could be helpful if we tackled shit the same here. Lately, the most common topics seem to be "4WD is broke", "start/power/running problem", and "what to look out for". But you know suspension is up there in the list. I don't like the way the stickies are laid out either. Newbies don't seem to realize you can scroll down from the top 3 threads. I feel like having 1 thread maybe, which links to other threads, a "super sticky" may be the best solution.

People today don't want to read. They want an instant solution. 140 character world out there.

Good point. However, there's something nice about being able to say, "Yo, did you check XYZ thread, right there in plain ass sight, before you dumped this question on us?"

There's a veritable metric shit ton of 4WD troubleshooting info in this subforum and the forum makes it semi-easy to search in just the 1st gen forum. Most people won't go that far. But while very few will figure out the search function, at least some un-selfish assholes will check a sticky thread if directed.

Right. A sticky thread that stays at the top of all the sticky threads. Would be cool. Not sure if possible.

A thread at the top of the page (or the top of the stickies, if you will) that's titled READ ME FIRST

We've already got too many in my opinion. I had them un-sticky my PCV valve thread last year because it wasn't really necesarry. I forget to check them half the time too.

I think that's kinda what the info dump sticky thread was for: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-tundras-info-dump.52214/

I'll think through it and see if I can make sense of it. No Friday poll on this one (yet), but ... Definitely need some kind of 4WD diagnostics thread, or for the braintrust of first gendom to get together a list of 'things to check' etc. Like, tap 4HI, can you spin the front driveshaft? If yes, apply park brake, shift to N, tap 4HI, etc.

Do we really need the 1st gen brochure thread pinned? They are cool to see but with as many sticky threads as we're accumulating maybe it's time to let that one go.
