Yeah I know, notice I included "anecdotal".

My first and probably last German car. Great car, but in the shop way too often, and VW loaner cars sucked back then.
Replaced it with a Q60, made in Japan, owned 4 years, 1 year longer than my GTI, haven't done one thing to it in 56k miles. Just oil changes, washer fluid and wiper blades.

I did really like that GTI though! German cars drive really well.

 

Many posts back, may have been wrapped up in the Boeing theories....
The entire industry has gone this way.

Basically my point is the car industry of the late 20th century isn't the same as the one of the 21st century.
25 or more years ago, most vehicles were made mostly by the manufacturer. A 1992 Camry was mostly made by Toyota. Any vendors they worked with, they partially owned and had embedded engineering.
Heck, even GM was almost 100% GM. Good example: DelcoRemy. They made their own electronics, even the semiconductors. Delco made their own chips in USA until a few years ago.

Nowadays, the vendors Toyota uses aren't necessarily partially owned by Toyota, nor is their engineering team from Toyota. They are contract suppliers.

So, not possible to expect the same experience as that 1992 Camry, which made Toyota famous.

 

Wow! You've had a lot of vehicles and turn them over quickly. I'm curious as to why? Do you just like getting the next new thing? Not trying to be sarcastic. I'm honestly curious. Don't know where you live, but in GA I'd have to pay major sales tax on each purchase which just gets under my skin. I could afford it - I just hate shelling out money to the gov't that often.

 

There's tons of folks like that, @vichmr, and you can put me right on the top of that list. It's criminal (sometimes) the $$$ lost but hey man, you can't take it with you

I bought a 21 as well. I’m a Toyota tech, and this is my 4th 5.7L (2 sequoias and now 2 tundras). I didn’t think I was going to like the 2022, and I don’t (this is subjective). Unfortunately I’ll still have to deal with the headaches and I’m sure I’ll be pulling a 2022 apart sooner than later.
Almost time to retire, maybe.

Cause the FAA doesn’t want the public to know there are bad pilots, it’ll ruin air travel.

 

The number of Toyota dealers does not factor into the equation. The only data that matters is how many total trucks have been produced and how many of them have the issue due to bad parts. Percent affected = # vehicles with problem / total vehicles produced. I believe I saw in an earlier post that someone had VIN number 7000, so if we go with that number and assume 100 have had the problem(s), then we're looking at ~ 1.4% affected.

 

So of the many vehicles you have listed, what would be your favorite(s)?

Agreed it’s complicated and it’s a tough time. However as others have pointed out that’s what every manufacturer is facing. Very unlike Toyota to not to own the issue and come out stronger.

Would not be surprised to see a head roll at Toyota NA.

 

It’s just the way it worked out. I’ve been blessed in that I’ve always had a good job making good money. I’ve never had to pay alimony or child support (I don’t have any) and I don’t have a rational better half telling me I can’t buy what I want.

 

The post I saw from the guy in the factory said that they figure about 500-1000 bad parts...so if you say 7K have been built...

 

Hurry up! Mid December the waiting time was 5-6 months. I'd say, you have time till end of February or, maybe, March.

 

Questions - I thought I just read here that someone who just took possession this week and had 88 miles on the truck got the dreaded waste gate issue? What do you mean “mea culpa” recall, which I haven’t read anything about? And, reviewing this forum and the FB page, it seems there are more that a few folks who didn’t get that well-taken care of and while maybe got a loaner, it sure wasn’t a truck. Not trying to be snarky and I apologize if it comes off that way, but one of my biggest concerns as a prospective buyer was Toyota’s handling of this issue. If there is evidence of them doing right by it, I’d love to see it.

 

So true. Ever since he was put at the helm, trucks started going down hill.

Too much chaos in San Antonio. Too many regrettable and unfortunate "real-life" post purchase fiascos.

Michigan/California/Japan collaboration meant well, but execution of the plan, however, has been a well-documented disaster.

Moral of the story I: don't wait 14 years to update your vehicle.
Moral of the story II: and when you do, don't execute your plan in the middle of a global pandemic with fucked-up supply chains and chip shortages.

 

Never, IMHO he is lousy, this is based in my experience for 50 years with Toyota trucks

I think I saw it on the 2022 tundra Facebook page. I am not sure the validity of it, but it kinda tracks with what I have seen and heard about the issue.

A couple quibbles with Jake from State Farm, I mean Toyota:

“Only about 500-1000 might have an issue”(That’s a confidence inspiring margin of error…)

Claims that every engine has now been resolved via techs sent on the road. (So anyone noting this issue post Monday or who’s truck is still waiting on parts is…)

 

There is a good chance this is fake. This guy is risking his job posting and responding to customers on social media. At my company we have yearly training that forbids us from doing such things.

 

Just like a lot of the negative posts on social media are fake. No one knows which ones are actually genuine.

 

That is true, it could be fake, but what he said actually seems more plausible than the "oh its just a couple of them" bit that the "Toyota can do no wrong" crowd it trying to peddle.

One or two did not pass the smell test from the beginning if you have ever been anywhere near mass production or parts sourcing .....

 

There's a guy who allegedly works for Toyota in quality control at the Alabama engine plant on that FB post that's calling BS on this so....

 

Here is that post, also highly suspect in my book.
