I think we all compromise somewhere regardless of the final choice we make for the vehicle. We've generally been a Subaru family and waited years to get the Ascent since we wanted a true 3 row, but after 3 years of use we decided we needed more and the Sequoia was the choice even with the limitations and lack of modern conveniences. I will say that before upgrading I want time with those second row seats, the TFL video shows them folding up for access to the 3rd row and I don't see how any family makes that work with stationary car seats for the kids. Our oldest is getting close to the height limit so any issue we would have would be short-lived

Sounds like a Land Cruiser or LX is just the ticket.

That storage room behind the third row is amazing, but that bad boy is 6300 lbs, which is why it only gets 20 hwy and I'm sure that's babying it.

Yeah, we're going to stick with the 2019 4WD as long as we can doing regular maintenance. Fulltime 4HI is a must in Colorado, also the massive rear cargo room provided by IRS. The truck should be good to 300k miles,

That’s definitely not a deal breaker for us. We’re in Texas and see rare winters, besides snowmageddon last year. Even then my 2wd Silverado performed flawlessly, even on the backroads.

Toyota says available Spring 2022, please advice on how and when can we put in a deposit at the dealers for allocation?

No, LX600 starts at $86k. Toyota should have put the sweet Torsen center diff into the transfer case. The transfer case is where it resides, easy to do. F'ing Sweers probably read market surveys from people that don't know jackshit.

YouTube reviewers are fanboying out in their walk arounds. Not a single honest one of them. Andre mentions his disappointment about cargo room at the very end. The rest geek out spewing the sales pitch.

"Game changer" is the hot phrase. Not sure whats so game changing for the segment. For Toyota yeah maybe. But not the 3rd row segment.

Rati has a video title comparing it to the Denali . It's getting deep in YouTube land.

Another thing. For those saying these vehicles are their "forever" Truck or SUV. Whats the battery life and cost to replace? If the Sequoia only comes in a hybrid config, whats that repair bill in 10 yrs.

What's does the life cycle and maintenance cost of a prius look like?

So pumped, looks great! Hybrid, 7 seater with captains chairs and solid rear axle. Only complaint I have is rear window. Now how much will it cost....

oh come on - I have 5 from 4 to 14 - once you get past two, it's a breeze (been saying this now for 8 years - still trying to convince myself :p:rofl:)

As for the new Sequoia - as long as they make a "MAX/EL/Suburban" version, I'm in :spending:

Yeah I like the Sequoia more as a big SUV from what I see than the Tundra as a 1/2 ton pickup.

Maybe just keep up on maintenance on my 2007 and add a Sequoia to the fleet. My wife will confiscate it from me though.

Wife and I just had our second child and she's already talking about more so this will most likely be my next purchase. Real happy with the styling and if we get 22-25 mpgs this will fit perfectly.

I only have 2 kids so I don't need a third row of seating . And hoping the seq would have a better road manner and quieter cabin than the Tundra.

That’s a lot of kids. We got a late start, wife had trouble getting pregnant once she decided she wanted to be a mom. We know it wasn’t me, my ammo was live and more than effective per lab tests.

We do have two dogs, a female GSD and a male Rottweiler. So interior space is always appreciated although seat covers will be mandatory!

I’m on my second Sequoia, both 2nd gen. IN my opinion Toyota did not do their homework and and half asked it with the 3rd gen. Reason for buying my first new 2008 was the rear seats, roll down rear window, 40/20/40 split second row bench and reliability with raised ground clearance. These were the same reasons I bought a new 2020 model after driving all the domestics. Now you get a flip up window, 60/40 second row bench and less room in the third row. I can’t tell you guys how useful the second row was when the kids were smaller. We changed a lot of diapers on a folded middle seat that adjusted fore and aft.

Couldn't agree more. Toyota lost focus on the main reasons behind what makes someone buy a 3rd row SUV. It's obvious the things that made a 3rd row a necessity for its user group was an after thought.

I’m pretty excited about the new Sequoia to be honest. It’s the US version of the Global Land Cruiser. More off-road capable than a 2nd gen, and less expensive than a 200 series Cruiser. I hope I’m wrong but this probably spells the end of the 4-Runner.

My hope is that Toyota really gets serious about off road capability with the new 4Runner. Now that they have an updated Sequoia and pretty up to date Highlander they have the bread and butter midsize and full size mass market SUV covered. Time for a Bronco/Wrangler competitor.

That would be an asinine move on Toyotas part. 4runners are still selling 130k units a year. The Sequoia I think 8k. If they neuter the qualities that make the 4runner such a success then whoever has been making these decisions will probably be looking for a new job. You dont fix what's not broken. This is especially true for Toyota.

I get why they took a leap with the Tundra and Sequoia. They were low volume models. Doesn't hurt to modify your approach for more market share. But the 4runner and Taco own their respective markets. You don't stray from what works.

As Toyota tries to consolidate vehicles to a global chassis it makes a little bit of sense. There’s really not a huge size difference between the 2.

Only if they looked like this. I think there would be a significant demand for something like this but all the manufacturers are scared. Until then the only time you’d catch me in a van is seeing what happens when you throw it in reverse at 40mph.
