Speaking of the Barnes washers, I am considering making another stab at getting better pricing for them

For those using the Barnes washers, are you finishing/painting them? They're just 1018 steel.

I painted mine, but they come well finished and there's not much for the paint to grab onto. Running through water might be fine, but grass and brush will scrub it off. Still worth the effort.

I know those who have ordered aluminum have been worried that they will have to wait for their order since I haven’t put a new order in for it yet. Assuming the numbers are right coming from the cutter, with what little I have here, with the magic of people canceling, I think I am actually ok, except for one 3/16 aluminum lifted front cat plate. I can 100% confirm I will have enough aluminum front skid plates to cover all orders. I am “supposed” to go pick up the aluminum order tomorrow, but it will probably be Saturday… I will sift through the plates and get the plates going to powder coat there, he only has a few plates left to do from the steel.

The next batch of steel that I over ordered on purpose, is supposed to be done next week. For the most part, I will be completely caught up with extras. Once I grind through all of this and get it out. I will been completely caught up expect a few odd balls.

My hellish backlog is finally going to come to an end

Pull up the prices of the replacement cats and pipes on any of the Toyota parts sites and when she sees that parts are 6 to 7K, she will be good.

And add on top of that the time the truck will be out of commission as well as the decreased value due to Carfax showing up .

Carfax?? This crap gets reported to Carfax?? It's no different than me swapping out the exhaust. It's not an accident.

I don't think it will say "missing cats" but that it was in the dealer for repair or something.
I know most people don't care too much, but some might be, and will hunt down every reason to cut down on your asking price when they see something questionable.
But yea, 3-6 months lead time and not knowing what might happen by then is another reason to get them plates.
I have heard some insurance will total it after the 2nd set stolen, because of the overall lead time and cost/rental and all that....

Not really, I mean, parts and labor is one thing, but the lead time is the main thing killing it. Imagine if you have rental clause on your insurance, and they provide a new rental every two weeks (or whatever the clause is) for 3-6 months? They rather cut the loss and total it. Now, I have heard some will buy it back and straight-pipe it, but you will never catch me in one, just saying.....lol
Tyler has been super awesome and helpful, so I am waiting on that last piece of the back plate fender(?) then I am good. Plus, I have FBI next door and county police sheriff three houses down that has a cruiser sitting there at all times.....

Received these back around Christmas and just got them installed. It's such a relief to no longer need to worry about every tweaker in a bush waiting around with a sawzall.

1/8 bare steel I had powder coated locally as I didn't want to deal with potential shipping damage. But now that I've seen how well they are packed when shipped I would have opted to have them powder coated from Valhalla.

Thank you @Classy63 these came out great. The TRD Pro skid nut plate worked flawlessly. Tightening those bolts were the easiest out of all of them. The side brackets mounted up perfectly too. To help avoid any potential rubbing issues I did put some 2" long strips of 1/8" rubber weather seal in strategic spots where the plates came together.

Not rocket science and I'm sure most will figure it out, but to remove the rear hardware on the TRD Pro skid you have to also remove an aluminum spacer and flimsy flat washer that retains the bolt in the cross member. In my instance those flat washers were not sitting proud enough of the holes in the cross member and for me to get a grip on them. What I did was pry down on the bolt a bit to bend the washer slightly concave. Then when I pushed up on the bolt the washer sat proud and I was able to grip it with a pair of vice grips laid horizontally over the cross member. With a grip, I could then spin the bolt to get them off.

If you're not replacing these bolts or installing the Valhalla Pro skid nut plate then you don't have to do all this. With the stock hardware loose there would have been plenty of room to slide the front plate up and under.

All in all a great product. I would have waited on these twice as long as I did rather than buy one of the other plate kits I've seen out there.

Wow you did it the easy way. Nice work! I opted to just remove the whole skid plate and take the retaining washers off that way. Received my plates yesterday and only had time to paint and throw on the main plate before I headed into a seedy part of town today. Two things I’ve learned from this whole experience:
    1) the nut plate is a life saver
    2) I must be on the smaller side of people here on the forum. At 6’ 215 I though I was average size, but going through the secret Santa wishlist with peoples T-shirt sizes and how easily they throw up these 3/16 steel plates; I’m definitely out matched. For a second I wasn’t sure how I was going to lift the plate since I didn’t have a jack handy
