I think there's a whole genre of memes floating around about '10 year olds these days wanting cell phones, and all I wanted was...'. When I was 10, I wanted a mood ring. Reaching for the stars...

I had pagers for on-call duty for work, but my only personal pager cost $9, and the service cost $1.75/mo. I was never cool, though.

My dad used to watch this weirdo on a public access channel that mixed numerology with the bible. He'd draw charts and anagrams (with the NEV bible, not Greek or Hebrew) to prove his assertions that people needed to fear the apocalypse and send him money. He wasnt entertaining, and my dad didn't believe him, but it was like a train wreck for dad and he couldn't look away. Cable TV in the early 80's wasn't Wayne and Garth; it was just a weird time.

Alright! I'm 1964. Three TV channels on rabbit ears or an outdoor antenna. PBS was on UHF but was a pain in the ass to tune in so we didn't watch it much. Cable TV wasn't even a thing yet.
I still have the original Pong game from Radio Shack that plugs in through the antenna connection on the back of the TV.

Fox and PBS were technically available to some people in our area, but we were in a signal “shadow” from a nearby mountain.
My wife had her original intellivision up until a few years ago. We sold our TV, so we sold it too.

We had an Intellivision. I spent a ton of money on those damned games. If I'd been industrious enough to invest the same dough in Microsoft stock, I'd be typing this from a villa in Monaco instead of suburbia in Texas.

I did have a high score of over a million points in Astrosmash, though. So there's that.

I had the coolest freaking pager.
It was for illicit activities, but it was cooler than all the other beepers in town.

    Good morning, goodfellas!

My daughter wanted to play doctor's office this morning, so I turned the air to 60° and made her wait in her room for an hour and a half.
The worst part is how much allowance it’s going to cost her.

I don’t have my original Atari, but a sibling gave me this for Xmas a few years ago. Has most of the 2600 classics.

My sister and I would fight over what we’d watch. Whoever made it to the tv first, changed the channel, pulled out the knob that you turned to change the channel and hid it, won.

We didn't have cable when I was a kid. We didn't even have the 2 or 3 basic over the air channels because of a hill behind our house. I grew up on VHS and then DVDs. The only time I really watched cable tv was at a friend or relative's house and that was pretty rare.

I was part of the last group of kids who would wake up with the sun on Saturday morning, eat a bowl of cereal while reading the back of the box, then hop on my BMX or mountain bike and take off with my friends, not to be seen again until the sun was going down.

Yeah man, I miss those days. We did some fishing but alot of our time was spent at the BMX track, various skateparks around town or the local dirt trails. Great memories of hitting up a gas station for a slurpee and then laying on the grassy hill at the stadium watching the clouds and bs'ing about girls, hopes and dreams. Other days we'd be raiding the construction site scrap bins for materials to drag home and spend the weekend building sketchy ramps to launch off.

I really think the kids born in the 89 - 90 years were the last of the ones who had a carefree childhood. My brother was born in 93, he and his friends never did this stuff. By the time they were 10 or 12 years old, video games were out and that's what they spent their time on.

I’m glad we have a broad range of ages here.

    I’m kinda old like @TaquitoBandito .
    ‘72 for me.

As a matter of fact, I didn’t discuss it much, because age is just a number, and I’m really like 15 @ heart.
But earlier this month I hit a half a century.
    Some may say it’s immaturity.
    Some may say it’s childish.
    But I’m just a kid.

My Mother has always told me, “You’re only as old as you feel, so feel laughter as much as you can, because laughter only makes us feel younger.”

Ditto! That's when I graduated also. I know I'm getting old. It's better than NOT growing old!

It is easier and more fun with a woman that is funny and with similar, not the same though, opinions and ambitions. The grandkids are really enjoyed by both of us. Wanna see pictures of my grandkids?

I had a Nintendo. But only played at night or with the family. I lived next to the school, so if I heard other kids playing I'd head that direction. Always a game of baseball, basketball, or football going on to join. Sometimes you had to go find another person to join to keep teams even though. Usually wasn't hard. Now when I go visit my dad the school is empty, never has kids playing.

We didn't have race track or skate parks, to small of a town with only 500 people. We'd go for bike rides on back gravel roads into the middle of nowhere. But we have 2 rivers close by so we always ended up at a section of one of them eventually. Swimming, fishing and just general exploring. We Also always had access to our parents guns to go shooting too. By the time I was in highschool it wasn't uncommon to see everyone had their guns in a gun rack on back window if their pick-up. Half the guys would go hunting when in Season during lunch. Buddy and I actually used the school shop to skin his deer once. No one cared. You couldn't do that now.

Hear that, my wife is as sick in the head as I am. Our kids always wondered how they ever turned out the way they did. Would share picks of the grandkiddies too but my daughter-in-law forbids it over the internet. Worried about all the sick f…ker’s out there! Yep….see I’m twisted, there’s no hope

I grew up in a small town as well. During Halloween we would go around town and collect things people left out and dropped it off at the town circle. If you were missing anything you just go the circle and pick it up. Can’t do that today, end up getting shot. On the weekends we would either go bowling, skating at the local rink or hang out at the mall. Mall is still here but only has a few stores and the rink hasn’t changed, still smells like buttered popcorn and fried food. We also had the pickup football, baseball or basketball game going on throughout the year. Don’t see that anymore because of the video games, speaking of which I see my son is on destiny 2, gotta go!
