4 quarts. I’ve always done it with the new fluid and old fluid matching temps and equal volume. Do some research on here and you’ll find threads walking through the check procedure if you’re inclined to verify the level after.

That is all I have done on Tacomas and Tundra. As long as it has the correct amount of fluid to begin with it works fine. I tried the check mode on a Tacoma and never could get it to work.

    Too many, but not enough....
Just drain into those measuring buckets from a hardware store and match the amount with new stuff. I would leave the new fluid out with the truck over night before you do the drain and fill so temperature matches exactly.

An empty 5 qt oil jug also works

You got it right, drain and fill, NOT a flush

My 16 reached 100k and wanted to check condition of oil sump, magnets and filter, so dropped pan changing filter and cleaning all. I was very surprised and found nothing putting mind at ease after many miles of heavy towing. I did not do a flush with the intention of changing oil every 20k miles about once per year and not pull the pan again. I am not concerned about oil temperature and will drive around block a couple of times then come back and pull level plug to make certain I have a little coming out. All is good at that point.

Make sure you loosen the fill plug before draining.

Search and there is plenty of info on this. Also just draining and refilling with the same amount you took out is not accurate. May as well do it right if you are going to do it all.

Happened every time I'd help a buddy do the differential fluids

Always wound up welding a nut to the fill plug after stripping the damn allen plug.

    Great pro tip right here

Thank you for posting this video.
I'm almost at 150k on my '17, I came in here looking for a write up on changing the trans fluid but this video is just as good as any write-up.
