(First Gen) Your Current Mileage

What year LC? I had a 100-series, 2006 and it was a great truck. It's still in the family, so I occasionally wrench on it. Same great 2UZ-FE engine.

 

I saw your post in the other thread about being the original owner. I couldn't imagine driving one vehicle that many miles but you picked a good one to do it in.

 

Just bought a 2005 with 197,800 miles in excellent condition!

1998, first year of the 100 series. I'm looking for another, but the prices have risen to the stratosphere!

 

Definitely a good one! I added a back up camera and blind side mirrors. Still a great ride and very comfortable (captain chairs have been redone - leather). I get on average 20 mpg on the V8 and dealership I bought it from provides free synethtic oil changes with filter as long as I own the truck. I’m not putting the miles on it now since I’m retired and mainly use it for boat towing and for hauling mulch, etc.

 

Bought 4 years ago with 150,000 been every bit as reliable as any Tacoma I’ve ever had. Average 14 mpg and best I’ve ever gotten was 17 doing 60 mph.

 

What size tires are you running? I couldn’t even get 20 mpg in my 4.0 V6

 

Or is that what you paid?

2004 limited here, just passed 140k on my last trip.

 

261,200 on my '03 SR5 A/C as of this morning.

 

Just bought a 2004 with 158k. This is my 4th tundra. I’ve had an 07, 14, and 17. In the process of dumping about $1500 in parts to get it ready for another 150k.

 

My 2000 Toyota Tundra 4x4 ext. cab 4.7L has 107,000 miles. I've owned it since 2001.

 

Just purchased an 02 V8 2WD with 444,680 miles on it. One owner, all servicing done by Toyota (with records). Super clean. Very happy with the truck so far. Runs like a damn CHAMP!

Make sure that timing belt has been done at least once in its lifetime. It's 10 years overdue at this point. You don't want it to snap or that 37k mile engine will be worse-off than a 1mil mile engine.

 

Well I have a 91 Toyota pickup with 87000 miles on it and I just had it done. Much older than an 05 that has way less miles.

 

06 DC with 103k.

 

Cool, but likely apples to oranges. If your new Tundra has a 4.7L V8, it's definitely an interference engine, you snap that timing belt, the engine is toast. Burnt, unrecoverable toast.

Toyota reco is every 9yrs / 90k miles. Some Tundras.com members managed made it well into the 100k miles and 15yrs+ before changing what was assumed as the original belt, but what you see coming out, it's shocking it didn't give.

Maybe you're a gambler, if you are, more power to you. If nothing else, a couple of 10mm bolts hold on the driver and passenger side cover to inspect for belt health. Lack of shineyness, cracks isn't a sure-fire indicator of rubber health.

Low mileage trucks come with their own host of problems. Trust me, I have one. dry rotted rubber and cracked hard rubber is one of those major problems, just had to redo all my valve cover gaskets at 73k miles.

Low mileage isn't always a good thing, and definitely is NOT a protection from maintenance or abuse.

You may find free luck. You may find a sticker inside the engine bay on the air cleaner or its assembly showing it's been changed.

You can go to the Toyota Owners website, https://www.toyota.com/owners and setup an account, plug in your VIN and claim the truck as yours. Not only will this allow Toyota to alert you at major recalls, but you can also look to see two important things: 1) Any recalls the previous owner has fulfilled or left open and 2) Any dealership service work done, including things like timing belt, oil changes, etc.

CarFax will give you any non-Dealership service records submitted, may find it there too.

If that's not proof lower miles isn't entirely better, not sure what would convince you otherwise. Bragging rights are cool, and the lack of interior/exterior/suspension wear and tear is great, but the other stuff that comes with vehicles that weren't driven a lot aren't always pleasant.

 

I'm replacing as many parts on my truck as I can so the miles on the engine don't bother me much
