For all the negative “interior lights suck” posts.

here’s two pics. Door closed an open. No flash. 10 secs apart. Under my house in the carport. I’m just not seeing a problem so far.

I also got 20-22 MPGs yesterday after 110 mile trip!

Try doing that when it's not daylight.

I wouldn’t say the interior lights suck, but I can see what others are saying about them as well. It’s a preference and some people like it to be sunny inside their vehicle at night. For me, I don’t like it super bright so it’s perfect for what I need. I’m the guy that’ll turn the dash lights on low.

I can easily get that fuel mileage if I drove all highway. I’d bet a drive from the Dallas area to Houston I could get 22-24 mpg. My regular daily mixture (80 mile round trip) I get 16.9 and I’m running ethanol free in this tank and I’m roughly one mpg better.

I’ll get some night pics too. Yes, totally personal preference for sure, I’m just sharing that it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be.

There are some of us who can't see or read very well in dim environments.

Hopefully aftermarket can help them out.

I have no skin in the game here, but my first impression is that the front passenger seat is awfully dark. I can see why people complain.

Toyota is probably using directional led overhead lighting to intentionally avoid distracting/dazzling occupants at night, since there's no restrictions to turning on cabin lights when driving.
Probably just Toyota being over zealous to avoid litigation.

I should clarify, I’m not trying to argue or anything. The reason I made this post is, prior to taking delivery of my truck I read a lot of comments on this site and in FB about how terrible the lighting is and I was bummed before I even got my truck.

Then, I got it and I really didn’t think it was bad at all. Personally I like that it’s not blinding. Just my opinion of course.

These pics are at night, no flash. See the difference with the doors open and closed. 39512D7E-D996-4E65-9CC9-1D94D134ABDD.jpg117E5AD6-7469-4568-8328-986731F88806.jpg7BC00B94-A53C-4E9C-B218-A1E588817D78.jpg

That is how mine looks and why I can't figure how it is a problem. Perhaps the lighting is different on different trim levels. But mine is an SR5 4x4 and yours is a Limited 4x4 so hmmm...

its not an issue of you dont have a pano roof since the rear light is usually right behind the opening of the regular moon roof or center of the headliner. on the pano roof the light is back by the rear window.

from what i can tell, but i dont have a 2022 tundra so i cant really say if that is the root cause.

I think it’s at the back for all of them, regardless of pano roof or not. That’s where it’s wired to.

I don’t have a pano and my light is in the back. I don’t see Toyota moving a light just because some have pano and others don’t. That wouldn’t be cost effective. Once again it’s all in preference. Some need/want more light and others don’t. Kind of like the street queens that have rock lights under their truck while driving. They want to watch for dirt and water puddles LOL.

Yes…I think the light is at the back regardless of roof options (no pano in mine).

…for me it’s a change coming from my 2015 CM where it was truly a dome light in the center (which my wife HATED) to this more directional LEDs which doesn’t light the entire Cabin as brightly.

it works for me either way quite honestly…and my wife LOVES this new setup so it does truly go back to preferences.

this def seems brighter than mine. Maybe it’s a trim issue.

Assuming you are comparing your 2016 to your 2022 I think I agree with you (my 2015 center dome light was brighter than my 2022 LED spot lights)

When I first got mine this was a complaint as well. My thought is I like when you walk up and the lights come on it would be nice to actually see inside the vehicle from the outside like I could in my 22 Taco TRD Sport. With that said I have gotten used to it and have researched it a bit. It is the same lighting in any tundra pano or not. Now I will say that I like what toyota did in the new Sequoia with the lights by the OH SHIT grips in addition to the map lights and rear lights. I would love to see this added to the tundra, then again I would more like to see power seats in the 55k SR5 models with cloth int. like the 40k SR5 Tacos with cloth int., but I guess one has to spend 65k to get that! And lets not forget the tiny 8" radio screen in the "Tundra" that should have the 14" standard. Hell the Corolla has an 8" screen, just saying. Overall though it is an awesome truck and maybe one day I'll hit my midlife crisis and remortgage my home and get a tundra with all the b's and w's!!
