I recently purchased a 2018 Plat. Bought it at the end of Oct with 40k on clock. It's MBM with tinted windows, vinyl bed cover, Bullet Liner spray in bed liner, a dual 12" JL sub box mounted behind the back seat with amp, and a half console safe all installed by the previous owner. I bought it CPO from a dealer in Lousiville, KY for 41k.

I looked for a while and wanted an 18 in either Limited trim or the Platinum. I'm very happy with the Platinum look and trim. I plan to color match the mirror caps and door handles and either replace or tint the tail lights to black it out. I'm also seriously considering having the factory Platinum wheels powdered black. I'd love to find a set of takeoffs for cheap to powder at my leisure vs having to put the truck on jack stands while I wait to get them done.

I've got a 2016 CM 1794 and added all the later model TRD Pro exterior options (TRD Pro BBS Wheels, LED Headlights w/ I-Hacker harness, Rigid Fogs, TRD Dual Exhaust, Fox suspension) plus front and rear TRD sway bars. I did also add 1" BORA wheel spacers and 295/70 R18 Cooper Discoverer XLT AT3 tires and 1.5" shackles. It does have the parking assist sensors that I rarely use and it will alert if I'm in reverse and something is too close to the rear - not sure though if brakes apply. I like the blind spot monitoring, brown leather interior, steering wheel tilt/position memory, and a few other bells & whistles not found on some other models. I'm happy I didn't need to fool with a TSS sensor when I replaced my front grille or worry about sensor replacement cost if it fails.

I replaced my 1794 chrome grille with the Pro grille, but swapping the sensor was no big deal and haven't had any issues.

It is true that more complex parts can lead to failures down the road, but honestly, with the safety sense stuff, I wouldn't worry. Toyota and Lexus have been using these parts for years without issues. My 2013 RX350 had some of these same sensors, and that was nearly 10 years ago. It's a known and reliable technology.

Bought my ‘17 1794 last January with 41k before the car market started going crazy! Love everything about it! Have put about 14k miles on it the past year, including a 2500 mile road trip. Swapped in OEM LEDs and fogs the first week, then a brand new set of Platinum wheels that were a dealer take off. Sold the chrome wheels to a local car dealer for the same amount of $. Probably will do color matched grill/bumper caps eventually. TRD sway bars and Corsa sport exhaust going on this week!

No, just LED daytime running lights on the pre-2018 1794 and Platinum. Luckily though, because of this, it makes the upgrade to LED headlights basically plug and play. Just need a small harness for the turn signals. Fog lights are plug and play.

So yes, buying an ‘18 would make it easier, but the upgrade took 40 minutes max so I wouldn’t necessarily base your search only on that. All OEM, so no worries. Good luck with your search!

The difference in lighting is incredible

Also, here’s a needed interior shot for the thread, since that’s why we all bought our 1794s! B52EA9A6-A334-44D8-A990-64BC3156F932.jpg

Sounds like a good plan. Next to the the driver's hand grab and RSB, the LED headlights w/I-Hacker harness was the biggest bang for my mod. buck...worth every penny even though it wasn't too cheap.

My RSB just shipped yesterday after it’s been on order for two months. Pretty excited to check out the performance that so many people have commented on.

I wanted a Truck with a minimum amount of electronics and "Nanny" systems. Which is why I still feel the 2016 was the best choice. It is basically the same truck as the 2018s but with out the extra annoying electronic safety stuff. That being said. The headlights are terrible, I tend to drive forest roads at night, often, and before I installed my LED fog and LED Light bars It was very sketchy. When I can come up with the cash the LED headlights are my next install.

The 2016-2018 Tundras are solid and you will be happy with whichever you end up with.

I went with a 2016 Platinum to avoid the TSS(lane departure, collision avoidance, etc.) mainly because I'm close to replacing both bumpers. Eye'd a 2017 1794 but for the increase in price, I wasn't sold on the additional features(leather to show wear and heated steering wheel). Everything else was exactly right(black leather, heated/vented seats, power folding mirrors, fancy temperature knobs, etc.) Saved me about $3k when I bought used. LEDs from the factory would've been nice, but I'll swap those when these glaze over.
