24.5mpg for the 91 mile loop, and dropping to 25mph several times going through small Nebraska towns on a 2-lane highway, then resuming speed to 70mph. Good video, has some info about the oil pressure gauge and about reducing CO2 emissions being a driving force for the move to TTV6.

Been lurking this section of the forum out of curiosity as I was recently in a buying position. Ended up picking a 21 as I was scared for a first year model. No idea how but my tanks are averaging around 15.8mpg with winter gas living at 6k feet elevation in the mountains (E rated 33s too). Crazy I am getting better mpg than some people with the new gen. Assuming it comes down to driving style..

Keep the real world numbers coming!

Any validation on stock speedo? (What does gps read at 60 vs speedometer?)

Fuelly is a great app. Free. Let’s you sync your account and we can start crowd sourcing some real world numbers. It’s not hard to use. We have enough time at the pump. Just throw in the odometer reading and the ant of gas that gets pumped at the end. Super easy and might help identify trends / patterns / issues! Enjoy those new trucks!

High elevation is great for fuel economy. Can’t get enough air to burn fuel in an NA engine.

Most of it (imo) is routine. I drive like a granny or Ricky Bobby and my mileage doesn’t fluctuate all that much. Last 4 vehicles have shown me to be at the low end of average. 90% trips under 10 miles and warm up idle is what kills my mpg I think. (Honda pilot, WRX, STI, and now the tundra)

I averaged 13 stock (but saw as high as 19-20 on flat hwy trips) and now get 11.5 with slight lift and 34” e rated.

Relevant info- my buddies 2022 sr5 4x4 is averaging 14.5 currently, but drives it like he drove the BMW 335xi it replaced.

Random observation here, but I gotta laugh when I observe many forum members spending tens of thousands of dollars on a brand new Toyota that the manufacturer spent years designing to improve fuel economy, and therefore GHG, and almost immediately add on as much weight as they can in the way of accessories, tires and rims and level or lift it, all the while complaining about the poor mileage caused directly by their interventions.

Yes. I get that from personal experience. Put heavy sliders/ 37" AT tires, skid plates, etc on the Jeep and watched MPG fall dramatically. I'll mod this truck, of course, but ever so slowly and with an eye toward weight. Changed wheels and lost 6 pounds. Now if I personally lose some weight I can justify the aluminum steps. ;)

Agreed. Gotta wonder if given half a chance and a light foot that these beasts--even 4wd equipped--won't give at least a solid 20-21mpg.

Ok 12.5 is what I calculate with a full tank of gas to empty. 418 miles and drove an extra 20miles after the refuel light came on. Here's the kicker, when I went to fill up the truck it only took 28.10 gallons... 418 miles÷32 gal tank was my math.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    Nice video. Very informative.

All these videos seem to show commuting in an empty truck.
I recognize that these trucks are daily drivers for many of you.
Does anyone have any information on how well this 2022 truck stacks up when used as a truck on a loop?
You know ...Loaded down and especially in hilly terrain.
I want to know due to its very heavy weight, how often the turbos are working.

This is very important because I have found that the 5.7 mileage remains the pretty much the same loaded down once you are moving.
Taps on the gas get you over hills if you want decent mileage. Towing is another story altogether.
I do not think that taps on the gas are going to do it for the 2022 loaded down, without triggering the turbos.
I personally want to know what the loaded down mileage is like .
    Thank You for any input.

    Loaded down ....not towing.
Meaning space behind front seats is full of people or stuff.
The Bed is full. Carrying at or over payload.

Good video. Like your friend I typically get 21 in my Tacoma on 70-75mph road trips so getting ~ this same mpg in a Tundra is acceptable. And for the comments about loaded mpg, we'll see. For sure it won't be 21, and probably won't be a whole lot better than the old V-8. But if 80% or more of your driving is unloaded or just people moving there is a lot of savings to be had, especially if gas prices increase.

From a towing perspective the new truck from the videos I have seen is an improvement and seems to have done really well with the way Toyota have tuned it. If someone was towing alot this is good as long as the reliability is there with the new engine/turbos. jmo.

Loaded really should be similar to towing, IMO if not even a little better.

I expect the 2022 will be better loaded than towing. Towing anything significant means single digits in mpg does it not.
How much does loading it down affect things where you are not carrying something tall.
Just dealing with a lot more weight.

    My personal experience.
If I am not carrying anything tall in the bed - so it all fits under the tonneau jammed full and cab is loaded.
    with the 2018
I get 12.5 - 13.5 l/100 kms in the 50 mph hilly two lane country roads I travel in .
I will get close to 12.5 - 13.5 on these same roads with an empty truck.
    Thats 18-19 mpg
50-55 mph (80-95 kms) is a sweet spot with the 5.7
IMO the n/a 5.7 has much more reserve over a n/a 3.5 (when the turbos are not working)

So how much do the working turbos on the 3.5 when loaded down.... affect mileage ?
    Hilly terrain.

Yeah, hills will make a big difference to MPG if loaded. Flats, not so much. What also will be interesting is to see if eco mode might save some mpgs in the hills by keeping the turbos from kicking in so soon and hard. I doubt eco would make any difference on steady state flat drives, like the video above.

Just filled up for the second time with 87 regular, two people 320 pounds, 250 pounds of camping gear in bed, since new added side-rails, bed mat, and Toyota bed cover.

Less than 600 miles total on the 2WD Crewmax Tundra so far, last tank about 30% around town and 70% on the highway.
Used 13.7 gallons after 283.2 miles = 20.6 MPG for a increase of .5MPG from first fill up.
