You're making me miss my M3.
Best winter car I've ever driven. (blizzaks were the only thing I changed for winter)

Front wheel drive cars will tear up some snow as long as the tires are decent. Years ago I had an Acura RSX and Knoxville got a decent snow(for us). I was out about like a mad man. Never got stuck and only had one steep hill I struggled on.

    @shifty` Here's where I get my estate sales notifications...if you're interested.

There's a nice 1961 Beetle up for auction in your area. Don't tell @Darkness :D

    www.estatesales.net

The ones offered in my area are typically 1/2 online bid with the other 1/2 visiting the actual site.

Been cleaning up guns all day. Finished up with my horde. Started in on poppas because I was set up. Got through with his and started in on papaws guns he gave us.

Tore down a 20GA pump. Absolutely gnar gnar. Gave papaw a call and asked him if he ever cleaned any of these guns. He said "Naw. I wiped em down once in a while but I never took em apart."

I asked if he ever oiled em at least. He said "Hell, oil costs money. I just smeared crisco on em once in a while to keep the rust down."

I wanted to beat his ass over the phone. Lol
This is the cleanest part so far. Props if you can tell me what it is.

Honestly, I think the USW would barely put a dent in that. This is one of those times when you use a proper heated parts washer and apply bluing after, lube up and carry on.

But what I will tell you, and you won't believe me until you try it, but PB Blaster on a toothbrush will work all that shit outta there PRONTO. It works wonders on old grease, no matter how caked, hard, dry, or what variety.

Put a little PBB in a pickle jar lid, dip the toothbrush into it, start brushing. If you have bottle smaller brushes, those are great for the small bits. Wipe off after.

I keep a small $20 Goodwill-bought 4QT crock pot in my shop for basically that purpose.

Put in the part, cover with water, add degreaser, put the lid on and set it to low, come back the next morning and your part is hotbath'd clean.

But like any parts washer that uses heat, you may find it pulls some of the color out of the metal.

A few years ago, my Dad called and asked where he could buy 2 1/2 inch 20 gauge shotgun shells. He said my Grandfather's shotgun wouldn't eject 3" shells. I knew my Grandfather received the gun in the 50's as a gift, and had been in a gun safe for most of the time since my Grandfather passed in 1974. When I asked when the last time it was cleaned, my Dad said that as far as he knew it never had been cleaned and that his Dad just sprayed in some WD-40 once in a while. It was (I say was because it was lost in a burglary shortly after this) a Browning semi-auto and taking it apart wasn't an option, so I took enough cleaners and oils down to get things straightened out. The first spray of cleaner resulted in something that resembled cheap 30 weight motor oil. After cleaning and relubrication, it worked just fine. I don't think your Papaw "wasn't quite right", I think he was following wisdom passed down from a time when firearms were much simpler.

Elbow grease and PHM certified 3 in 1 oil to clean and then regular gun oil for lube. Sometimes just 3 in 1 when I forget...

    Nope.
Likely a very limited issue. The 5.7 had camshaft issues when it first came out. Affected not many trucks

Random thought of the day. Terminator 2 inspired.

I have 10 acres of land in Virginia. Say I built an underground garage (it’s hilly enough that this seems rather doable with a bit of excavation) could I buy a new pro (taco or tundra) and tow it off the lot to the bunker, prep for storage, and lock it all up super tight so nobody could steal it. It’s land in BF nowhere and semi protected at that by a wimpy bridge that floods and property owners who keep tabs on stuff.

Store for 20-25 years then have a pre planned barn find.

Are the technical challenges of long term storage easy enough to plan for?

on a scale of 1-10, how high does this rank in terms of stupidity?

You'd have to have a plan to mitigate the degradation of plastics and rubbers and soy-based wire insulation. Rodents would need to be considered as well as prospectors.

I don't think it's worth the risk. Plus you'd have to insure the land, building, and vehicle or really risk losing your whole investment.

There's also the risk that you kick the bucket prematurely and then legit leave a barnfind for someone else...
