I’m confused how this is such a wide spread. If some dealers are adding $10k markup, how are others getting away without it? How do they make money?

Also, anybody got any markup info on Colorado dealerships (or southern Wyoming)? I’ll try to search thread.

All of Toyota's dealerships are selling more cars than they ever had historically.
So prior to this whole covid shortage, dealerships were able to sell fewer, discount considerably on each sale, and still turned a profit.

Now, even if they sell everything at MSRP, they sell more units, that's already plenty of money.
Some sales people might say that they HAVE to charge a markup because there's a shortage and they have to increase price to compensate for fewer cars sold. That might be for Subaru, GM, Honda, who really suffered loss of production. But any Toyota sales person saying this is just flat out lying.

As for how do they get away with it? People got "richer" all of a sudden due to soaring asset prices. The average homeowner over the past year or 2 is sitting on $100k of positive equity without having to work for it. With that "windfall", a good portion of them think they can afford to splurge $5k-10k markup

You guys living on the West Coast and down south with these crazy market adjustments would be better off buying a truck from a state like mine and just having it shipped to you. I feel bad for you guys

PA. I know my local dealer sells a ton on ebay. Under MSRP usually, then ships them wherever they need to go.

I had first dibs on their first Tundra. It was a black TRD OR with the 6 foot bed and had every package. I didn't take it because I really wanted Green. It was sold on ebay the next day to some guy in North Carolina

Beaver Toyota in metro Atlanta didn’t have markup, they have a $1200 fee on al vehicles however. I picked up my new crewmax today. I had so much equity in my 2016 they even cut me a check. Biggest issue I had was finding inventory to choose from. I lucked out because someone backed out of one they put a deposit on.

they did however have an army green red 4x4 sr5 marked up to almost 70k in the showroom listed as used. Apparently someone bought it somewhere and flipped it.

I posted this on another thread after I took my sons Tacoma in for service and I see you already have Temecula Valley Toyota of CA already on the hit list… below the green truck (one pictured in the Google Doc) is a Limited trim and there was also a white one in the SR5 package - those are some pretty huge final prices for half ton trucks that started out at $55k and $60k respectively

Sad but this actually is not horrible. Local dealership is charging $1k Paint Protection + $1k Security System and wait for it…
then they send the trucks out to get a lift (not sure if only spacer lift or actual new shock set up?) and 35in AT tires and spray on bed liner and apparently those upgrades warrant an additional cost of $15k so the SR5 was selling for $72k and the Limited was selling for $81k and in CA it’s common knowledge to add about 10% for your tax and license to get a whopping out the door price of:
    SR5 $79200 and
    Limited $89100
And (yea there’s one more and) that’s before you decide to get the $3k extended warranty or not and they do mention that the engine is now a turbo engine and those turbos do occasionally go out… wowsie!!

I left saying: LONG LIVE THE V8

Crazy! I’ve been watching that white lifted SR5 been sitting on the lot for some time. They keep reposting it on Autotrader every few weeks as new added vehicle. Toyota of Carlsbad is doing the same thing, charging $10k for leveling kit and wheelsz

Toyota of Portland has a $5,999 ADM plus about $1,500 in dealer installed accessories. I imagine they have not sold a single one with those prices. Well, nvm Portland is full of idiots…

Beaverton and Wilsonville are just south of them and both are below MSRP on the 2022 Tundra. In some cases thousands below. Do they think people are too lazy to drive 20-30mins to save 7.5-10k? Lol

Is any of that 'sposed to be surprising? California is full of idiots.
But you got the 'long live the V8" in there so it's all good.

It’s legit. Posted about it in this thread before. I’ve confirmed and so have a few others on the tundra FB group.

Beaverton had a 4x2 on their lot for weeks that was about $2,500 off msrp. Seen it with my own eyes a few weeks ago when i got an oil filter and a few people have posted pictures of it. All of their 4x4’s are $177 below msrp. No ADM.

Wilsonville is $250 below msrp for 4x4 and no ADM. it’s not much off but it’s something at least.

Yeah, in the PNW 4x2’s don’t move and Beaverton is probably the biggest dealer in the state. I hate their no haggle policy, but right now they are one of the best.

They told me via text 4x2’s we’re about $1,000 over invoice. However, that one above was about 750-800 over invoice by my calculation.

Hmm that’s a good question. I kind of think they don’t? Only reason I think this is because someone from California came up and got one from Damian Lillard Toyota per the FB group. So if Damian is doing it then I would think Beaverton is. Unless you are from the east coast or really far away then maybe not. Could be a sell to PNW people only ha

Edit: I did all of my “free” service at Beaverton as they are 12 mins from me. They seem like okay people but did nothing for my rear diff howl, rear diff leak, etc for my Tacoma. I refused to buy from them as I got $2,500 more off for my Tacoma by going to Kendall in Eugene. No haggle is blah but right now they have the best price for 4x2’s and second best for 4x4’s.

I'm up in Seattle area, we have one dealer who is also "no haggle" but I wouldn't mind going to OR for a good deal

I would think any of the dealers around Portland would sell to you no problem. Just make sure to call and check first haha

If you have a dealer close to you at msrp and are wanting a 4x4 then the $177-250 off msrp probably isn’t worth it. However, if your local dealers all have ADM or if you want a 4x2 then Beaverton may be the winner.

I have been pinging Wilsonville and Beaverton every week and so far neither have what I am wanting coming in. Last week Wilsonville said they had 3 crew max 4x4 limited with the 6.5ft bed coming in, but all had the TRD Off-road package plus other stuff I don’t want. I’m going to ask for an update from Beaverton today. We just had a baby a few days ago and my 2018 Tacoma is definitely too small ha 85lb dog doesn’t help.

Glad you got a deal from them; I walked-in and saw that Army Green marked-up 20k and didn't speak to anyone at that point.
I actually went with Cherokee Toyota. They currently aren't doing mark-ups but they REALLY want me to use dealer financing. I'll report back when my truck finally comes in March.

What is a $1200 fee if not a “markup”?

5,000 ADM at Toyota of Oxnard in CA

have the exact build I want but can’t understand the thought of spending an extra 5000$ on a 58,000 dollar truck.

3rd dealer I’ve seen/heard of below msrp. This one way better than my local two as far as prices for 4x4’s go.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
LOL no one wants Double Cabs.

Look for that cab option to be discontinued within a few years.

Toyota of Orange got clever to avoid saying "Markup" on their trucks. Went to get a couple things there Thursday and Sales guy came out to ask about buying my truck... Says they have a Black 1794 just arrived on their lot that morning that the original buyer decided not to do the deal. They were getting the truck tinted that morning and says "We aren't doing any dealer markups" so when I walked out, the truck was in the front and I could see the tag.

    Tint - $2995
    Ceramic Coating - $6995

    New total - $75,995 for a 1794 Crewmax 4x2

They did offer me $44k for my 2018 Limited w/ 53k miles, which is only $2,200 less than what I paid in 2018, but these "DIO" were laughable.
