How rare is my Tundra?

I’ve got a first gen 2004 3.4 (wish it was a 4.0) 4wd manual transmission access cab. I’ve never seen another. Is this a rare beast? Absolutely love this truck

 

Makes me miss my 02 ranger with the 4.0 , manual twin sticks FX4 package. That was a pretty rare truck. It was just too small for the family and 300k miles. Awesome memories in that truck. Never sell yours.

 

Fairly rare in that configuration and even more rare in that condition. Most of the manual 1st gens I see were work trucks that are all beat to hell. Yours looks nice. Another plus side is that it's harder to steal since most millenials/gen z can't drive a stick shift. No need for an alarm.

Haha so true! I’ve only had a few automatics in my life.
Presently a stick fj60 in addition to this tundra and just picked up an 80 series. I have a problem….

this truck is just perfect to me in every way and its condition is all original and really nice. I’ve had it 3 years and no plans of ever selling!

 

I had a 3.4 in my last 2003 access cab (auto-trans though). . . that was a great motor, plenty of low en torque, rolled 70 mph easily pulling my little boat, and got 21 mpg on the highway. Sold it to my friends Son, who loves it and pulls a motorcycle trailer out to the desert often.

Nice truck. Rare in the sense most people wanted the V8 otherwise more people probably would have bought the T100 when it came out.

How does everyone around here on this site avoid getting their rims ruined from brake dust? lol

The OEM brakes weren't ceramic until a few years back.

 

Haha I lucked out that the previous owner seemed to be as particular as me, and I wash mine weekly to keep the salt and crud off

 

You know i tried that when I bought my truck new, but with the asbestos brakes and salt in the winter, I could never prevent the brake dust from baking into them. With the ceramic brakes today, that's not much of a worry anymore.

 

I plan to teach my kids how to drive stick so they're not limited in what they can steal, gotta properly equip the next generation!

Seriously though, @Tundra2 was just eyeballing this for his v6, found one on a yard a ways down the road.

 

Swap a v8 in it.

I've personally only seen one other in Colorado and it was supercharged. The first guy was selling it for $5,500. I considered picking it up but then it was sold. A short time later, it was for sale again. I inquired and the new owner told me that the frame was rusty/needed replaced, the front diff gear ratio differed from the rear, and it had some electrical problems. I thanked him as the first owner that had it for sale told me the frame was in good condition and the truck had no issues. It sold and a short time after again, it was for sale a THIRD TIME! I asked this owner the same questions and he said the frame was not an issue and not rusty. Low and behold, he joined the local tundra groups and posted this . Apparently he was lying and the frame was rusty....





To answer your questinon, I think they are pretty rare and probably sought after by the right person.

 

I have the twin of your truck, just a year older with fender flares. The stick is natural anti-theft here in Socal.

 

Bought new in June 2003

 

I do remember them being sold back in the day since I bought mine new but basically they were the stripped down cheapest 4x4 tundra on the lot being sold with the base package. Probably 1 out of every 15-20 trucks on the lot at any large dealership.

Now if you had that in a limited edition, that would be a white whale.

 

I bought mine when I lived back east. Had to special order it to get a stick and it came with goodies.

 

There are 5-6 AC FGT’s on the street within a mile of me. One is stick. I forget if it’s 4wd. My yard guy also has a cherry AC. It helps the ego to live in so cal.

I do wish mine were MT though. I contemplate the swap. It’s beyond my skills today but maybe not out of reach for a lifetime mod. Probably would need to learn a lot more about the ECU though. Right now I’m too scared to try a steering wheel swap.

Nice job, your dash and door panels look new. Did you paint them (what brand?) and replace the door panel cloths?

 

So the manual trans came with the twin-stick set up and no electronic T-case/Diff actuators? Oh, to dream….

 

I think a few have done that swap, but also did SAS conversion too. I'm wondering if it's possible to do without the ecu flipping out. Or take a truck like OPs and put a v8 in. 5 spd and all.

 

Did you ever say how many miles are on it?

 

i bought it with 165k on it 3 years ago, and am now up to 195!

 

this is an sr5. I think the base stick 2wd was the cheapest, not this

 

Are you able to post or send me a picture of your pedal assembly and cross member? Newer guy here just surfing to to get some info on the 5 speed before I swap it over. Everything I have come from a Tacoma
