I saw yet another guy that went through water too deep and killed their engine. That's the 5th or 6th one. It seems to be one of the few ways to kill a 4.7L

They need to take swimming lessons from @Rheywood456 (who has a snorkel)

No he's fine. I'm saying they should have a snorkel like Rheywood. It always seems to be a young guy that thinks his non-snorkel first gen is a submarine.

That’s pretty cool. I’ve wanted to put some matte black vinyl on the roof for a flag but I feel it’s a bit over the top. Also, that flag is on the wrong side. Stars should be on the right I think, especially when looking at it from the top down.

One of the local vinyl people make a pretty cool looking toppo decal that I’ve been eyeing for my hood, dark background and almost grey lines so it would stand out terribly

‘No issues’ doesn’t mean it isn’t harming the engine. Just means it hasn’t gotten bad enough to make an issue. Not saying you need to go OEM on everything but there are some things I just don’t wanna take chances with. Won’t hurt to use the factory schtuff

Man that’s a sucky day. Sorry.

Thank you. That’s all I needed. Now to get the part number and see if I can get it through the participating dealer program.
Uh oh, why? I’m slow on the uptake so explain like your talking to a 3 year old.

I had similar recently. Don't remember if I shared here or not. Basically, were all packed up to hit the cabin around NYE. Stuff packed, kids in, dog in, wife loses keys. Finds keys, out the door, turn on the main road, go over a speed table, passenger ass-end is squishy. Go another 50 feet, can tell back tire is low. Pull over. Sure enough, 6psi in rear. Open hatch to get cig lighter pump out, won't pump it up more than 20psi. Find the 2" decking screw, at least it's on the tread. Turn around. Unpack dog, kids, wife, get floor jack, which wasn't able to jack up the SUV high enough, but found out in a stupid way, so had to rush for jackstands, rip all the packed stuff out of the rear to pull OEM scissor jack, jack vehicle up enough to pull my floor jack, then rearrange some more to get the OEM jack under. Starts pouring down rain as I'm finally pulling the tire. Plug tire with galvanizing plug in the rain. Inflate, reinstall, re-pack the stuff, get shower, load up the dog, kids, wife, head out.

Got to the cabin (not ours). Door to the porch jammed. Gotta repair the frame just to get to the front door and get everyone inside, again, in the rain. Make an easy stove-top dinner that night, crash out, wake up at 1am to tornado warnings, wind howling and going nuts. Wake up next day. Oven won't get about 210F. Go to cook breakfast on the grill. Both propane tanks empty. At one point when I go to the pisser, I kick the living piss out of the ignorant step-up where they put an addition onto the house, thought it was just a stub until a few days later. Foot so effed up, can't even hike with the kids. Resort to indoor stuff instead. Fortunately nothing weird on the way back, but I musta fixed about 10 problems in that house, from the plumbing to realigning doors, to repairing their cabinet. Left a day early, non-refundable.

tl;dr - feel your pain. What a way to start the f'n year.

I'd probably take the badge for 'most parts waiting to be installed' at this point.

Oh, but as for other shit. Snowing here today, so avoiding the garage, too cold and damp, that means working in the inside shop space.

Was browsing NextDoor and someone listed this Fender amp on the cheap-cheap. Inspected for issues at the guy's house, saw it lacked the OEM switching pedal (not necessary for operation) and the OEM casters, "flaky knobs" he says, "they cut in an out depending on where you dial" (telltale sign of dirty pots). I also noticed while there, both speaker terminals had their rivets snapped when dude installed the power cord, otherwise the thing was really freaking mint. Selling it for less than half what I'd pay for a mediocre used one so I pounce.

Confirmed the knob condition at home, definitely dirty pots. Tested to confirm speaker leads weren't separated from the coil, all good there, so drilled out the remnants of the old rivets, re-riveted terminals to their cages. Pop off the amp internals, deoxit all the front panel pots, buttons, and inputs. Wipe down the guts, blow everything out. Blow out the insides, wipe down with anti-fungal cleaner, re-mount the ampe, reattach all the wires.

While waiting for it the G5 cleaner to dry out, finished repairing the Crossland CC1 espresso machine I got "for parts". Throwing an error code for the thermoblock not coming up to temp. Find the thermoblock is leaking and its thermal fuse is blown. Pull thermoblock. Replaced thermal fuse. Thermoblock gasket was a standard size my local Ace hardware had. Replaced group head gasket, buttoned it all back up, descaled and Cafiza'd it, pulled a shot to test, and now I've got $400 worth of mid-grade PID'd espresso machine to offload.

Anyway, pics in case this shit is interesting to anyone. Manufacture date on the amp's PCB was May of 1996.

Solid state or tube? I thought they made mostly solid state in the 90s but I could be wrong.

    Sadly, not tube :(

I do keep my eyes peeled for them, but at the price tubes go for these days, a lot of people will just buy the amp to snag the tubes and chuck the rest in the landfill...

Blasphemy! That should never happen to a Fender tube amp or any decent tube amp for that matter.

I missed out on a bid for a 70s Fender Reverb Deluxe a couple years back at an estate sale. I bid $400 and sadly didn't get it.

Haven't seen any good deals since that time.

I dunno, I feel like yours was worse than mine. Maybe one of those 'grass is greener' situations, eh? Only reversed, so your grass looks better to you!

I keep my eyes peeled in a couple of places. Estate sales are really difficult in my area. I think you need to be on the north side of town, anywhere near the lakes, to get good scores. Anywhere from Buckhead southward these days, you gotta show up 4-5 hours early and you'll be 15-20 people deep in the line waiting to get in. Last one I went to was at a couple who used to own a Schwinn shop, lake house south of Peachtree City/Fayetteville roughly. Got there 90 minutes before open, was 50 deep already. By the time I got in the house, several picked over the good stuff. Saw some really cool things roll out. I got some interesting tidbits apparently nobody else knew had value, but all sports related, quickly tripled my money within 72 hours and decide "this shit ain't worth it". :D

Speaking of ones that got away, my dad had a really awesome Fender Reverb tube amp from the early 70s. Dad let me use it for years while I was still under their roof. I let a friend borrow it about 30 years ago, then I had to cut out of town in a hurry, and never got it back from her. I reached out a few years later multiple times asking for it back, I'm guessing it was gone, never heard back. I'm sure it's long gone at this point, but ... Dad still pissed at me about it.

Yeah, @shifty` , surprised you have time. Definitely cool though.

I would get my arse handed to me if I tried to do stuff like that.

Also, PTC is kinda cool. Went there once, x-fiancé’s brother. I could dig it.

But 90 minutes of truck mods would be worth $400 to me if I could buy time without guilt and debt, I would.

RE: 1st sentence - not sure what you mean. ATL basically shut down today due to the winter mix weather, couldn't go anywhere, kids couldn't go anywhere, basically stranded at home. No dead appliances in the house, the only honey-do I had to manage was trimming out a door I installed downstairs recently, so I seized the moment. I did manage to get @wandering_boy 's grill cleaned up today too, but that was about the only thing I could do w/o freezing my ass off.

RE: 2nd one ... I had a long chat w/the missus a couple nights ago. We keep pretty open dialogue, keeps the relationship healthy. I told her in no simple terms, I needed some shop time soon or I'd probably snap. She was cool about it. Kids got more screen time today than normal to make that possible, but ... it's a give and take. Granted, she also wants that spro machine off the kitchen counter, so she was pretty stoked I finally wrapped that one up.

Yeah, I think you have a keeper. I pay dearly for those types of moments. Might be a kids age thing. My clock starts anytime I’m not helping with kids and it all goes on the tab. No real comp for project time. ironically I think I might pay double if I’m fixing stuff.

Didn’t really pre-plan for this stuff properly I guess.

Every relationship is a give and take, brother.

I'm not a relationship counselor, but I'd tell you this: I'd have a big issue if I paid a tax for needing time, that's not healthy, it's not fair, and only serves to create contention - it's not nurturing for either of, nor to either of you.

I specifically give her hers, sometimes it means booking the appt for her to have "me time", even if it means I'm paying for it. If you are going to request it, you better be ready to offer it first. Fair is fair. I don't remember which one of us started that, but we continue it, as the 2nd of both kids is nearing the double-digits.

Now, if you were using "me time" abusively, like, constantly saying, "can't deal with the boys today, gotta go do XYZ!" then, sure, I'd tax the feck outta ya. But if it's not the case, it's just one person not willing to carry the brunt, it doesn't sound like a reciprocal partnership to me. Easy for me to say from a distance, I know.

When you've got kids like we do, nobody prepares you for this, but you've got be a team. Sometimes that means one person is gonna need to carry the ball down the field solo in order to give the other teammate a chance to recover sufficiently to score goals at the end of the field (day).

It's not anything to be resentful over ... it's part of a partnership, part of being <team surname>. The more the missus and I communicate that way, <team surname>, the more it drills home the point it's not a selfish, one-sided endeavor.

Again, give and take ... but without communication, you're building a house in quicksand.

I'm learning that winches in bumpers are much harder to manage than exposed winches. I would not switch what I have, but it's clear that just spooling and stretching the line will take some doing.

Work is sending me home two hours early today with no penalty. They know I have a long commute, and want to make sure I will get there.

Due to weather. The snow didn't come yesterday as predicted, but came a day late...
