Well it’s been 8 months with my 3/4 ton. I have to say this is a beast of a truck. It pulls everything I need it to pull and I get about the same gas mileage as I did with my 17SR5 4x4 that had a 2.5” level. So far the truck has been 100% reliable with 19k miles so far. Unfortunately I won’t be going back to a Toyota truck because of my business. I have to have at least a 3/4 ton to pull the trailers and heavy equipment that I do almost everyday. Truck is still stock but I plan on putting a 2” level and 35’s also a brush guard on the front. I am still enjoying this forum and it’s been a while since I posted but I am still here! Here she is

I'd say that's a damn good test so far, you put the miles on!

Yessir…. Bout 25-30k a year sometimes a little more. I typically fill up 2-3 times a week and get around 460-470 miles out of the 36 gallon tank

Nice truck. I considered one when I was truck shopping and made a list:

    Tundra pros
    • shorter wheelbase for maneuvering off-road
    • shorter nose for visibility off-road
    • drives even smaller than it is with a tight turning radius
    • legendary longevity
    • great for intermediate off-roading but still a good daily driver

    Tundra cons
    • payload
    • fuel economy

    Chevy HD gasser pros
    • payload
    • towing
    • decently reliable as well
    • fuel economy can be a bit better stock vs. stock

    Chevy HD gasser cons
    • just huge; feels like a battleship compared to the Tundra esp when turning/parking
    • poor platform for off-roading
    • poor choice for a daily driver

That said, if I needed to tow ≥8k lbs regularly, that’s the truck I’d be in.

I've never owned a Chevrolet truck in my life, but these newer ones are appealing to me. Especially since the current gen Fords look awful and the Rams have that lame shift knob that's found its way into the 2500s now, these are probably the best 3/4 ton option out there at the moment, in my opinion. Those side mirrors sure are an odd touch, though. Looks like something from Tetris lol.

Sharp truck, and I'm glad you're liking it. I have several friends who've had Chevys over the years, and other than some electrical quirks and body issues (door hinges, etc.), they've been reliable and mechanically sound.

I almost purchased some midnight addition wheels from a 2021…until I seen the weight, sizing increase, and cost.

That’s why I have stayed in the 18’s for now. From what I have seen, 60-90.00 per tire increase in the last 15 months.

Most of these tires were 200-230.00, Michelin being the most expensive.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    Nice truck!

Gets me thinking about my choices for a new truck if the new Tundra proves to be not as reliable as hoped.

The GM 6.6L gasser doesn’t have displacement on demand so it has regular ass lifters, so it should be rock solid. Just wish they put the 10 speed Allison behind it.

What would be really cool (and will not happen) would be for GM to dust off the 8.1L block, put in a forged rotating assembly, slap some higher flowing heads on with port and direct injection with a fairly high compression ratio. Add a properly ground cam for low and midrange torque, and let the good cylinder heads hang that torque a bit further for extra freedom eagles past 5K. Then put the 10 speed Allison behind it.

    Wouldn’t be hard to sell a 500hp, 575lb-ft naturally aspirated gas V8 3/4 ton.

Never really made sense to me. Bigger wheel = less rubber. Seems like the tire should cost less lol. Perhaps there’s more engineering in the sidewall, who knows. I was scared to move from 17 to 18 when I bought this truck, but it’s not so bad with 18s being so common these days.

Thanks guys. I wish it had the 10 speed also. I have owned two of the GM 5.3 variable lifters and wasn’t a fan. This truck is my daily. Fuel has sucked donkey dill lately. Was 85$ yesterday. That’s Texas DFW area

Yes these are 20” wheels. I was looking at tire prices and crapped a gold brick. Maybe I can use that at the tire store

Nice truck!!! I have 33,980 miles on mine as of today. My Wranglers are getting this also. Mine are wearing pretty good and I have 5-7k miles left on mine.

As of today, I am averaging 14.6 MPG over its life which includes towing more than when I had the Tundra. I was at 15.8 with the Tundra.

I have not had a single thing wrong with mine. I can not even nit pick and find a single thing. No creeks rattles, etc....

This has been one of the best trucks I have owned so far. Maintenance costs are same as Tundra except tires wear out a little quicker and more expensive.

Towing is a dream and a whole another level compared to the half tons I had been using.

I traded my 2020 Tundra SR5 last December for my 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0L Duramax. I pull my pressure washer rig at ekadt 3-4x a week. Currently just rolled 32k in just 1yr. Far better fuel mileage. When towing my 7000lb trailer with the Duramax, I get 18 mpg. The tundra would give me 11-12mpg. Highway milage by itself, I've gotten 31mpg with the GMC. I was barely able to get 16mpg with the tundra. Averaging overall 20mpg over the total mileage. This includes all the towing I do. 20210129_165407.jpg 20210622_084226.jpg 20210109_143259.jpg

I created a cost comparison chart. I log every fill up with mileage and cost. It shows average miles per tank and average mpg. Equal miles on both over the year I've owned both. As you can see I have far less fillups with the GMC over the tundra. Also during the time I owned the tundra 2yrs ago, fuel cost was less. IMG_20220115_173052.jpg

Using the gallons and price today, the duramax is $1,700 less in fuel

Very interesting. I never got a chance to out all those numbers together but that's great! The more I go the numbers just increase more. Not to mention the torque this thing has. 460lb ft at 1500rpms. 95% of my power is just off idle and you know it.

I hope that truck is dependable over the long term for you. Everyone knows the Tundra sucks down the fuel. I’m happy to pay $70-80 extra per month in fuel just to not be bothered with issues or going back to the dealer.

Numbers are way off. It's more like $200 a month. Take total gallons of both vehicles to get the difference. 806.25 gallons between the two vehicles. Divide that by 12 months which is 67.18 gallons more a month. Going by aver cost around here in Texas at $2.89 for 89 octane, that comes to $194 more a month.

First thing is that this motor is only 2yrs old. Second the issues you may read are small to the masses. Just like the venerable cam tower leak on the tundra. Doesn't apply to everyone.
