I'm serious. Started a thread on this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/2022-tundra-tailgate-box-stupidity.100795/#post-2577677

Toyota thinks the Tundra is a SUV now. Even with the issues I am seeing (wind noise, radio error messages, box stupidity) I still like the truck as a commuter vehicle. I would take this truck over a Sequoia. I'm not driving downtown into any big city with it.

My SR5 with the TRD OR has the same old school rear view mirror. That’s pretty lacking in my opinion, but I haven’t tinted the windows yet. Here in Texas, window film is a requirement

Still like driving the new Tundra. The CrewMax with 6.5 bed was the way to go for me.

Yet…… I made opening comments on my first review on how I did not like the radio. Let me update that to how much I HATE this radio.

The PIN screen pops up every time I drive now. You don’t know when it’s going to happen - maybe in 5 minutes - maybe in 30. It overtakes the radio and you cannot press the X to make it disappear when it pops up. Wait a couple minutes and you select one of the buttons on the left side. I just leave it now. It’s what I look at every morning when I drive to work. The volume button on the steering wheel works and the preset radio +/- button.

The preset station scroll has a microphone button and source button over top of two of the preset buttons leaving you 3 in the clear.

I have an account with the App. The radio welcomes me with my name. Then it does it’s own crap like it doesn’t know me.

I also get “non connection” screens.

    C500FD3B-0D99-4671-ABB3-CB9747F656B5.jpg

Dealer is going to look at in a couple weeks. I don’t think they can do anything until Toyota does an update. The connection errors is why they want to look at it sooner.

I am so disappointed with this radio system. Especially after watching all those videos in the fall with Toyota spending so much time patting themselves on their back on how great this new system is.

I was told “don’t punch the screen - you might be waiting a few months for a replacement”.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Hurry up update!!!

This appears to be a common issue with new Tundra trucks, there's videos on youtube with people having the same problems with this radio.

Not the several I’ve had over the last 5 years. They have all stayed started when door was opened. Silverado, Camaro, 13,17 and 21 corvette all stay running. If you pop the hood they die, but opening passenger or driver door they stay running. So does the F150, Mustang, explorer

Have you owned a 2019+ Sierra? I swear I read about this on the GM Trucks forum.

In the last year alone I’ve had 2021 f150 tremor, 2021 jeep gladiator, 2021 f150 xlt, 21 explorer st,20 ram rebel, 21 Silverado rst, 21 mustang Gt, and 21 Silverado high country. Every single one of those vehicles stayed running when started with remote regardless of what was opened (except the hood).

Maybe GM fixed it for 2021, then. Or maybe I'm misremembering.

I would think you’ve misread something. As far back as my 2015 camaro and Silverado ltz they stayed running after remote started.

Like: It pulls a load easily. Had about 6,700 lbs on the hitch in -25 C weather. No longer plug in and go. You have to go through a bunch on menus to set up the control. There is close to 20 trailer options to choose from. I had to deselect the trailer as well when I was done or it turns off some of the driving controls. There is a learning curve to how this thing works. Not a dislike yet it’s not plug and go.

The engine power felt a lot more linear with the extra weight. And the power was there. Lots of rolling hills in my area - no problem. Unloaded the truck sometimes reminds my of a 2-stroke bike the way the power comes on when you are on the throttle before the turbos spooled up.

    1C112008-36CE-4CEE-8202-6C4F832075FF.jpg

Dislike: No headlight off switch and the lights cycle one and off as the sun sets. As sun is setting, still super bright enough that you need sunglasses. I get into the shadow of the trees beside the road and the lights go on. Back into the sun the go off. And this repeats. No setting will adjust for this. The old Tundras never did this. Found this out by stopping at a stop light after a 10 mile highway stretch and the guy in front of me (now beside me) “hey buddy what’s your problem ?!?!?! You keep turning your lights on and off at me!!

Dislike. My Toyota App wanted me to create an account today, log into my email to get a code. The radio is getting more efficient by showing me all the PIN and errors at the same time. It gives 3 seconds of warning, one second of just PIN screen and repeats.

All my main complaints about this SUV truck are programming related. I think they hired a bunch of kids who never owned a vehicle in their life and take Uber to work at a desk and come up with ideas how their video game ideas should work in a SUV. And then no one told them that Tundra is a pick-up truck. Not a Land Cruiser. Still can’t believe I can’t turn off the box light by locking the vehicle without the tailgate being closed.

I assume 6700 lbs is the total trailer weight, not the tongue weight as you implied. :eek2:

Can't you just turn the headlights on and leave them on?

@Dagwood there’s a DRL off position on the stalk to turn off auto headlights. Or if they switch like that just turn the headlights on.

Correct - not the tongue weight - the weight that I was dragging behind me.

Turning the headlights on is the solution for now. They had the auto settings perfect on my 2018 so why mess with it? Even have a longer time between auto on / off would improve this.

I always keep my headlights on but I do notice at dusk the dash and head unit go bright and dark a few times on my 2020.

I have the radio set to “Night” all the time on the ‘22 and it looks great during the day. Easy to see in the sunlight. Until the PIN screen shows up.

These are my headlight options on the Canadian truck. DRL is on all the time in Canada.

    @Dagwood
Thanks for all the comments. The screen/pin BS would send me to the Looney bin for sure. My fist would probably try to correct the problem! but that never ends up working out for man or machine. Lol.
Not good to be yelling at your new truck while you're driving, because it wants you to log in when you just want the radio on... bonkers!
It seems that most of these "bugs" can be combed out with software updates, but jeez, why are there so many! Hopefully, your issues will be resolved with updates (except for the remote start stupidity) and you can enjoy your new truck.

My limited doesn’t have the manual headlight height adjustment. One thing I would really like to have had. Seems odd considering I have the towing technologies package.

This should be my inside voice... I sure hope its not automated. Then it will only work if there is no trailer plugged in or if the bed is empty.

    Sorry... sorry... Positive thoughts only.

That was my thinking too. Just trying to justify why the SR5 would have it and not the Limited.

not sure about Canadian trucks but on my truck if you go into the setting while the truck is running. Go to vehicle customize/lights/auto on sensitivity and you can control how dark it is out side before the lights auto turn on. The basic setting turns them on if there’s a cloud in the sky. Set it to darker and that will get rid of that annoying daytime non sense.
