I forget we're still like the wild west. You can get liquor at the gas station here while open carrying.

Is that a pudelpointer? I believe that breed is going to be my next dog. Never had a pointer. Hope to get one from Bob Farris at Cedarwood.

The plan was to try something new - instead found two rarities.

The Calumet 15 year is phenomenal. I have a bottle at home that I've been resisting because I didn't have a backup.

The Old Elk wheated is one of my favorites. Difficult to find around home, impossible in Utah buy I can drive to either NV or WY when it's available.

    20220118_141050.jpg

Found these at a Total Wine in the DFW area.

My local store has the Old Elk and it's a matter of me getting there, I like wheated bourbons and want to try it. I was just given a bottle of the Camulet 14, had it before and didn't do much for me, but I hear the 15 is great, are they similar?

I was pretty disappointed with the 15 year considering it's retail price. Nose and initial taste are great. The finish is awful and kind of ruined the experience.

I have both the 14 and the 15 at home. I think the 15 is a lot better and the only Calumet offering that I have had that I believe is worth the price.

    12 year = $90
    14 year = $109
    15 year = $124

15 year is also single rack, high proof, and I believe unfiltered. Extremely smooth but packed with flavor.

Curious what about the finish ruined it for you? I found it to be very appealing, although uts been a while since I poured a calumet 15 so I forget exactly the taste. I do recall loving it though!

I'm intrigued by the bottle alone.

I hate to admit it but I'm drawn to unique bottles. This one is a winner, particularly with the full cork without a wood top. Where you get?

Isn't that the thing, I too am drawn to the bottle. Here, near Albany, NY 39 bucks, it 's pretty common. Trying to stay simple it was this or Blade and Bow, both of which I have never had and passed on each many times.

It's on the regular rotation at my house. They have a 10 year I haven't tried, but this 6 year is a winner, bottle be damned.

The wife came home with a little gold today. It was a nice score we picked up from a close friend. Paid $160 which is over retail but much cheaper than I've seen them on the shelf.

    3x over retail!

I just finished a bottle - still have one in reserve I haven't opened. Would like to get a backup before popping one.

The first time I ever had Blanton was out of a plastic cup at a desert hotel. =D

What letter is on your cork?

3x over retail? This is Blantons gold. Pretty sure retail is $99. Regular Blantons is $60.

I have several bottles of the regular Blantons and I have all of the letters.

The gold has only been available in the states for less than a year.

This gold horse is the first "N".

Here you can see the difference in the bottles.

Ah, right. I didn't even pay close attention to the image. Interestingly, in Sweden Gold is cheaper than their Single Barrel/standard.

Only double retail! Both are pretty similar in my opinion - which is to say both are phenomenal.

Do you have a barrel at home to take the picture on?
