Tow Hook Who will release tow hook and when

I found those, would be nice if something similar would be release. My truck will be the SR5 TRD off road. here in canada there is no adaptive air damp bumber on that version. Would be great to have something similar to this.

A solution has not been released yet. The other thread about tow hooks is a cluster of rants. Not productive or helpful.

 

/agree mostly people experiencing that they are not happy. I have already check them out. but I found the link I poste on google and I tought it was and interesting design. wondring if it would be possible to do something similair on the new Tundra.

overall don't care at all if they are visible or not I just need recovery point for the day that I will need them.

I got stuck in a boat ram in the wood they other day and there way no other way to get out other then been pulled from the front.

let face it if it can happen it will happen one day, so I'd like tow hook. I have still decided to by the 2022 because for what I need to do it's will be a good truck over all.

 

I think the "race to release tow hooks first" will between two things:

1. Toyota releasing their tow hooks as an OEM Accessory option.
2. Any one of the dozens of aftermarket bumper manufacturers releasing a winch bumper.

Normally, I would bet on Toyota but in this case, I think the aftermarket is going to come up with a solution first. For what it's worth, my gut says that solution will be in the form of a steel bumper rather than just bolting on D-rings somewhere on the frame. I've crawled under my 22 a couple of times and I cannot see where tow hooks or d-rings will bolt directly to the frame without interfering with the high-speed air dam that drops down or the plastic bumper.

Very Wild Guess: The only way I can see Toyota adding tow hooks/recovery points to the front would be to sell a really beefy (and I mean really beefy) redesigned skid plate and attaching the recovery points to that. That might drop the recovery points low enough to not interfere with the front bumper. However, that's just my own speculation. I don't know how realistic that is since they already sell an OEM bold-on TRD skid plate as an option.

 

As long as their mounted high enough to not damage the plastic bumper when pulling from an angle. Its crazy that after paying this much for a truck, you would have to spend no telling how much on an aftermarket bumper or whatever , just to have something that should come standard.

 

Just get an aftermarket bumper with winch and D rings. I bet Fab4 comes out with a sweet set up. Otherwise I wouldn’t worry about it. I can tell you with my 08 and current 18 I did quite a bit of pulling people out but never had to use my tow hooks to be pulled

 

Yeah. I don't disagree with you. I mean to have a TRD Off-Road package with no forward recovery points is not very "off-road" like, but alas here we are.

That being said, if I put front recovery points on my truck...I better be able to pull from them at any forward angle and not just from the side. In my 4Runner, the 2 times I needed a pull were both on tight trails and I could only pull from directly forward. Hence why I'll probably just wait for an affordable winch bumper (though I would love to see an ARB bumper on a 3rd Gen...maybe in a few years).

If I was in your neck of the woods (no pun intended from the big tree in your profile picture)...that would be totally true. However, out west in the high desert, Mother Nature doesn't always provide a firm anchor point for my winch & snatch block. That's why I rarely wheel solo. Just in case.

 

unless you were in an open field with nowhere to winch to.

 

If the open field is soil and not rock then there are ways to make an anchor point.

Had a buddy that used the Deadman Off-Road anchor a few times when I lived in Florida. It was pretty cool. Then he traded in his Jeep for a Taco with CRAWL Control and never needed it again. hahaha.

 

I am designing a bolt in solution, it will have a shackle mount, it has to this point been designed without the air dam, but I need to get my hands on a tundra with the air dam at some point to see if I can design around it.

As for the mount being low enough, it will be an inch or so from the center of the shackle hole from the bottom of the bumper. I know this isn’t exactly ideal, but without reliefs in the factory bumper it would mean that this would have to stick way down to work at a higher angle. But I will have the mount as forward as possible.

I am currently trying to release the 22 cat plate but this is a close second for the 22 for me

 

It’s possible, but the field roads that we drive in to get to out hunting spots are plowed over and over and so soft that when it’s wet, you’ll sink down to you knees walking on it. So when it’s dry enough to drive on, I still think it would be too soft to anchor to.

 

Let me know if you end up making one with D ring that that does not required to install a new bumper. My truck will not have air damp.

 

It will happen, I am just trying to catch up on orders as I have a crap ton of plates I need to ship out, plus I am prototyping 2 plates right now. This hasn’t left my radar

In this picture, they've cut out the TSS radar sensor at the bottom of the grill for their bumper. I'm curious how the aftermarket is going to handle the placement of that sensor because I really don't want to lose that feature for the sake of putting on a winch bumper.

 

Maybe some are fine with tossing the POS TSS. IMO people need to drive the truck not the computer. Dumbing down of our society really sux!

 

No, I get it. Intent is improved safety. However, people become dependant on it, then when it malfunctions due to being covered with bug splatter- crash!

 

This. And the 22 Tundra looks 10x better with a high clearance bumper anyways. Also, unlike the Ford trucks, Toyota did everyone a favor by mounting the intercooler exchangers up high and to the sides of the radiator. On the Ecoboost's, the intercooler is directly behind the front bumper and so adding a winch or winch bumper is either impossible or almost entirely blocks air flow. The usual course of action is to get a $1500 front mount intercooler that relocates it behind the grill. So after you spend $2000 on a bumper and $800+ on a winch, you still have to spend another $1500 on an intercooler.

They probably kept it on the SEMA truck, but those bumper-mounted off-road lights would definitely interfere with it. It's basically located directly behind the two middle bumper lights. It's right here:

 

So Toyota did us a favor by not including something that many want? Yet, Ford didn't by making it harder to do something most don't do? Nevermind that you are ignoring moving the sensors for the Tundra.

 

Any updatr on took hook any one?

Got stuck in a mudy pot hole with a 16 foot trailer attatched. I was not a happy camper. Took hook would have been handy. Truck as less then 2000 km.
