CarPlay startup … a little geeky but kind of fun

You’ve got to remove the ones you have in the text section and instead use the “select variable” and then explicitly pick which formatted result you want.


I haven’t found a way to re-associate an action in the text. This is like super simple programming for dummies, but as a result it is a bit frustrating.

anyone else have the app randomly crashing on them?

 

Sounds exactly like what I have going on! Will have to try and uninstall and reinstall Waze.

 

And I’m using wireless CarPlay with the Zlink app on my android unit. And it’s working.

 

Yeah I tried that but must have done something wrong so I will try it again.

 

Would be nice to be able to name the individual “objects” and such…but I suppose that’s getting into real programming

If you have issues with music playing at the same time Siri starts mumbling your greetings…





this will pause any audio playback, then Siri will begin talking, then resume whatever audio playing. Great if you’re listening to tunes on the way to the truck and pick up where you left off.

 

I figured out the issue where is was speaking the fractional numbers even after formatting to 0 decimal places. When you select the variable to add to the text, select the little calculator icon just below the command to format. That puts the desired formatted number in.

 

Anyway to change the voice to Siri? Mine sounds all robotic and speaks way too fast

 

I think you can adjust the speed

Its somewhere in the settings you can change the voice and the speed as well I am trying to find it right now.

 

click on the circle arrow next to the SPEAK action. All the options are there.

 

Jeff, it seems like a lot of details have been left out on how to input these commands. I have downloaded Toolbox Pro and see its icons in the commands, but they result in different options for the commands. For instance, "If Variable Does Exist" calls for a condition which, when I click on it, does not give me a "Get" option.

Any hints?

Interestingly enough, if I edit the shortcut on my ipad pro, Siri is not an option for the voice and I end up with robotic Samantha even just opening the shortcut to edit (there is no “cancel” or “save” button). Then I have to edit again on my phone to fix it back to Siri

 

Mine takes a few seconds to start. I’ve not timed it but it’s more than a couple and less than 30. The shortcut has to gather all the weather info and stuff so it takes a few.

 

Yeah Im doing this from my iPhone and Siri is not an option. all i have are the name options and they sound VERY robotic.

Something else weird that is happening is the command editor on the Shortcuts App shakes up and down very fast on my phone when I am inputting variables. Seems to be a bit buggy

 

Anyone know how to have it listen for an answer and then run a short cut based on the response I give it?

I'm trying to add "would you like directions?" to the end of my greeting, me say yes or no and then get to tell it where.

It feels above my pay grade but I'm digging.

yes - I'm seeing that glitchy shit too. And it keeps randomly closing on me.

 

There is an action "ask for input" - no sure how exactly it sets up. I haven't dug into it much.

 

Have you guys installed iOS 15.2.1 yet? Sounds like there are a few bugfixes, some specific to CarPlay functionality.

Yup, just downloaded if before I did all this because my carplay wasnt working. Carplay is working now after the update.

 

I can’t change the voice on mine. I click on the different names but when I play the message it always Samantha.

 

I tried the text thing and I get no voice.
When I click the play preview and I get nothing. I run it and start car play the little tab says my automation is running but no voice.

 

After you enter the "Text" Section, you have to set another command that says "Speak" then "Text"
