Question for the crowds, I will be buying a 22 but originally planned to wait for a hybrid for better mpg. I realize Toyota is focusing on power not mpg but I can't find any reliable info on hybrid mpg. I really need this info to make the best decision. Does anyone know about the timing toyota will release this Info. I really want to make a decision before years end due to tax purposes.

The hybrid information will not be available until the new year.

wont be out until closed to March, I am in the same boat (but not with year end tax). If it were me and you needed to buy a vehicle ASAP- buy a limited or higher fully optioned truck and use it in the interim. If the hybrid checks the boxes for you, private sale it or trade it in.

Still no EPA mileage for the iForce Max?

Just wait until it gets released. We can speculate all day long until we're blue in the face but in the end, it's all guesses until Toyota releases it. They've already said the Hybrid won't be released until spring and I'm sure MPG numbers will be just before the hybrid is released.

    I like @Toyota1234's answer.

My apologies. While I'm well aware that the iForce Max won't be available for a few months, I thought I'd read that the EPA mileage rating would be released sometime this month. Hence my query.

No worries. Toyota's website would be the best source for this though. Straight from the horses mouth.

Like everything else during this model release it'll get leaked or I'll find someone quoting the news release before I see anything on Toyota's website. Disregard. Standing by.

I'm not believing this guy, but who knows. The one thing I DO believe is that even if the MPGs are significantly better Toyota will do the math and price the hybrid so that you will probably never break even as compared to the non-hybrid. So, pay Toyota now or pay at the pump. Pick your poison.

Do you think Toyota would put a switch for the hybrid motor on the Tundra hybrid like they have in other models? Eco, Normal, and sport.

Maybe Eco could get 30MPG, would run in electric assist at speeds higher than the 18MPH

I agree. Also, I'm fine with the SR5 whereas if you go hybrid I would have to also upgrade the trim level so that ups the price even more.
I'm a long time Toyota owner but really considering a f150 eco or Powerboost as well. If they come out with 30 mpg and the engine upgrade is say only 2k more, that would get my attention.

If you watch this guys old video, some of the beans he spilled later proven to be dead on accurate. So I'm really getting my hopes for for 30 mpg, even 28 mpg combined is huge I'm willing to wait

hope in one hand and shit in the other , see which fills up first, lol

it won’t be 30, sweers already said hybrid was for power not efficiency, that why they pan caked it, etc

We have a 2021 highlander hybrid and in the summer it gets 35+ to 40 depending on speed etc. Right now it gets consistent 26mpg. We had a 2019 rav4 hybrid. Mid 40’s in Summer, low to mid 30’s in winter. For some reason these take a huge hit in winter. But based on the aerodynamics and smaller weight and size of suv I’d doubt very highly that the tundra in Summer will be any better than 25ish and with the hit the hybrids take in winter…mid teens…maybe?

Apples and oranges. That's a 4 banger hybrid in a unibody chassis. If that gets your hopes up then you are aiming to be disappointed, and you have no one but yourself to blame.

Just assume it’ll get the same as the power boost.

And he should know! This is why your expectations for MPG should be very low.

yeah, he predicted $4k to be the extra cost for hybrid, so if it only gets 24 mpg, it doesn't make sense to buy just saving fuel cost

It won’t get better than the current rated hwy MPG, because it will still be cruising with the same motor at highway speeds. Except it will be pulling more weight in batteries around. It should improve city MPG with the electric assist off the line. Most of the energy consumed is getting the vehicle moving. So 23/23 is a pretty reasonable guess. 30 is a pipe dream.

another benefit of hybrid is regen braking, brakes last longer too, but it's too early to tell how aggressive the regen is to make much of a difference

Per edmunds it will have regen and low speed EV only operation. Didn’t think it would get an EV only mode.
