Long story short, even if Sherwood did this on their own, take it, they still have to punch the numbers thru with Toyota Credit (unless you are finance with someone else), and 2022 rates is 4.79/4.99 compare to 1.99 on 2020/2021s, so I'd take it consider 2022 also is more expensive, unless you have emotional/sediment value to the current truck, the 2022 IS a better truck on many fronts, I also assume yours is stock, which makes a new one even a stronger argument, I also assume they will let you drive yours until new one comes in?

Yeah. These are my thoughts. I agree, I believe the truck is in many ways an upgrade (other than my loosing a moonroof!) but the TTV6 is a big selling feature to me. Even though some early reports of problems I know Toyota will take care of it. It’s a stock truck I have going to a fairly stock truck in the 22, but fit and finish seems really nice.

and yes. I can drive mine until the new one comes in.

That's truly mind blowing coming from any Toyota (and affiliates) in Canada, if they let you choose a color, I'd jump on it in a heart beat if I was you.

I Might do it after a test drive of the 22. But, I would also try to work in the Toyota Plus Care of 10 years 125,000 miles on the new truck.

I mean. Keep in mind all they are giving me is my original paid price for old truck. I have to pay full msrp on new.

as far as colour it was whatever they had coming in. Thankfully I was hoping for lunar or blueprint. And they had blueprint coming.

I would need to see this in person but it doesn’t look terrible but I’m sure it looks worse in person. If you like the 22, then take the offer, but have them through in an extended warranty at no cost to you to ease your mind on a new model that already has known issues out there.

Hmmmm there's some numbers need to be worked out, did you get the OR Premium (leather etc)? and are they offering you a SR5 CM with TRD off road package too right? if the numbers are close, its really no brainer.

Yeah. I’d like to try to figure this out. But that’s gonna have to be Toyota Canada coming through for me to add something like this in. Hoping they still call after my last run in with the representative.

My TRD off road is cloth. Not sure how the trims are similar or different up here in Canada.

new one has all the same things as the old, SR5 TRD OFF Road. but Toyota reserved moonroof for the limited trim. They are putting on 3m and side steps and all weather mats (which I think are standard anyway) to match the few upgrades I did on my old truck. Payments go up a small amount but will virtually be a wash with the small savings in fuel economy. (Keep in mind up here gas is around 129-139 per litre. Or around 5-5.50 a gallon.

I'm outside of Toronto so I hear you on costs, my only gripe with Canadian options is lack of tech package.

If they come with TRD off road package, then you also get locking diff with it.

Interesting because I haven't been impressed with SP Toyota. I do all my business with Gateway Toyota now.

So you are saying that you can get into the 22 but they want $7k more from? And this is paying you (showing on the invoice as a trade against the new one) what you paid for the truck. Just for your information I have a Tundra a 2018 and I can get into the same 2022 model trim level for pretty much the same amount $7k. Depending on what your truck is worth after the repair (and it sounds like the repair will not show as a repair if the dealer is so willing) Just saying, confirm this first. If this is confirmed that it will not show as a repair your truck is worth a lot more in this market.

thats a lot of hassle back and forth - I would be done with it and get into the 2022 if you like it and the deal. But from the sounds of it based on my negotiations with the 2018, if you feel you have leverage I would negotiate a better $$$ difference.

That sucks. Should ve the least (Toyota, not necessarily the dealer) could do for the inconvenience. Especially for a customer that is/will be spending more $ with the company on other vehicles for the family.

On the positive side, at least you have a dealer working hard trying to treat you right and keep a customer for Toyota (and gaining a customer for themselves). I hate to imagine where you'd be if you hadn't found them.

There are two types of moon roofs... those that leak and those that will. I don't believe this would make me walk from the deal.

Good luck on your final decision!

So where are all the 2021's supposedly sitting on lots and back at the factory waiting to find out if they need new wiring & or power steering rack housing.

Once they fix that problem all these trucks could be shipped to dealerships and sold...so where are they and what grade?

I had moonroofs on all my cars in the past 20 years, not one leaked or had any single issue. Maybe you got lucky?

I guess I'm coming down in the "Do It" camp. I do love my '18 TSS Off Road. But if it had a significant 'Factory' mistake as yours does, I'd probably opt for the 'New' swap (+7k).

I don't know if the math would pencil out, but if you took the 22, sold it and then found a used 21 you liked, would you come out ahead?

Going back 20 years I have had 3 of 5 leak. The two that haven't are 4.5 and .5 years old.

I have had factory Sun Moon/glass opening holes in my roofs in every car I have had (30+) going back to my 1981 Celica. Not one had any issues whatsoever. 99% of these vehicles were Toyotas, I had a few Zs with T-Tops & a few BMWs sprinkled in there but nary a drop of leaks.

    Sorry, others have had issues.

I don't think I would even notice it, let alone call it defective. If it bothers you, and this thread tells me it does, then trade it. They want you to trade because then they won't bother repairing a thing. They'll sell it as is for more than you paid. You end up with a more expensive truck, they make money off selling your current truck, they win pretty big.

Outrageous fitment if that is all a factory faux pas. Once those welds are drilled factory integrity is gone, but yours never really had it anyway.
Take the comparable '22 and go forth....
