This will probably get me flamed but....Is there any documented 0-60 times on this truck? All I can find is the hybrid. I get it trucks aren't meant for speed but I'm hoping the new tundra is faster than my v6 tacoma. That thing feels really slow to me.

It will be faster, much faster.

The old 5.7 tundra is faster and the new one is supposed to be quicker than that!

I had a 2017 3.5 v6 TRD OR... my father has an sr5 tundra crewmax 4x4.. He destroyed me every single time... just walked off and left.

I raced my BIL in my tundra and he was pretty up set by the bus lengths(I am DC 2wd and he is crew cab 4x4 so it wasn't fair) I put on him.

Lol. It will be considerably faster. You’ll think you just hopped into a sports car in comparison to a Tacoma.

Yeah you have a 100+ HP advantage on a Tacoma and have 4 extra gears. Its not even close.

This is a great way to describe the difference! The tacoma while a great size.. the engine/transmission is a great way to get people to upgrade to a tundra. It is so sluggish and mismatched its crazy.. but what do you expect with Mike Sweers.. he thought the 4.7 has a timing chain too.

This thing feels almost unsafe trying to accelerate and merge in the city.

It absolutely is unsafe merging on to freeways - I can't wait to get rid of mine. I really hope the non-hybrid Tundra is a night and day difference from the gear hunting mess my Tacoma is.

i remember i went and test drove a 2017 TRD OR Taco here in Salt Lake City. I got on I-15 north doing 70mph and the truck literally wouldn’t shift out of 5th because of a headwind.

i also test drove a Colorado and Frontier just beforehand, the 3 dealers were all in a row, and neither of the others had the issue. They had decent torque below 3000 rpm where as the Taco was a dud until you were over 3k.

Exactly what you want from a truck engine

The transmission tuning on the taco is a total disaster, you can’t even tell how the engine power is it’s so bad . Had one for a week , reliable or not no way I would buy one

I have the same experience with headwinds. If it is windy, I will run at 3500 rpm to maintain 75mph and I'm at sea level with no elevation changes aside from freeway ramps. I anxiously await any improvement the Tundra brings.

I really don't understand why the Tacoma holds its value so well and seems to be so sought after other than the perceived reliability factor. I am probably not its core demo, however, as the most "truck" thing I do is buy mulch at Lowes lol. I guess thats why I don't care about having no tow hooks, etc. on the Tundra :).

I got rid of mine.. when it shifted down going up a hill in the snow(I was in 2wd it wasn't slick or anything) and lost traction.... If it had stayed in gear and maintained speed it would have been fine.
Tundra just lugs it along without an issue.

My Tacoma is 2nd gen with the 4.0L engine. It's not a race car but the 4.0 is better suited to a truck than the 3rd gen 3.5L. Like you guys report the 3rd gen so lacks in torque that a headwind or tiny uphill makes it shift down. I test drove one a couple of years ago and took it on the local Interstate hwy and on some slight upgrades that I never even notice in my 2nd gen. The 3rd gen was downshifting. LOL.

the sluggish highway passing and need to damn near floor it every time i needed power was half the reason i jumped from a Tacoma to a Tundra in the first place.

They sure did screw up the powertrain on the 3rd gen Tacomas. I read about them on TacomaWorld and thought no way they could be that bad... until I drove one. So, I let them keep it. There were so many other better ways they could have gone with it I still have to scratch my head. Even a turbo 4 would have been way better than an engine like the 3.5 that was designed and tuned for much lighter vehicles. They really need to do better when they update the Tacomas and the sooner the better. But I guess they keep selling them so there isn't a lot of motivation to do so.

This thread is little old but the only 3rd gen thread I found on 0-60 times.

A few weeks I thought I’d see what my 2023 2WD non-hybrid Platinum would do. I hit the traction control button which activates Toyota Auto Limited Slip, gave it a few extra RPM while left foot braking and took off. I was pleased to record a 5.0 second time using GPS Race Timer app!

I’ve tried a few more times since then but couldn’t get down to 5 seconds again. Most runs I gave it too much throttle while left braking and just lit up the tires when I launched. This morning is was a cool 40 degrees in Houston so I thought I’d give it another try. I hit the Auto LSD button but didn’t give it any extra throttle under brake. Actually I didn’t even go full throttle. My time… 4.7 seconds!!!

A buddy leased a 2023 taco and started complaining about it right away. A bit underpowered and lots of gear hunting on the highway.

He is looking at a new taco with the turbo engine or a tundra.

Do you have a tune? No way this truck gets under 6 seconds without one.

Might I suggest getting a dragy device if you would like to know an accurate 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. They’re extremely accurate, but the device does run about $160 and pairs with an app. It’s fun to play with even in a heavy truck. The other various phone gps based apps such as the one you used are notoriously inaccurate and inconsistent unfortunately.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that app you're using is way off. There's no chance in hell a stock Tundra is running nearly a second faster 0-60 than a Subaru WRX. That's on par with a 5.7 Challenger and it's only a half a second behind a 6.4 Scat Pack. Not trying to be a jerk, but your app is broken.

Just a dude doing a pull on the street so not official magazine time type stuff, but should give you the picture if anyone is seriously comparing the 3rd gen Tundra to the 3rd gen Taco.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QchcxUaKBlA

I had a 2019 Taco auto and the powertrain sucked soooo bad I traded it on a 2019 TRD Pro manual trans taco only to find that the engine and manual trans were *almost* as bad. Just a gutless engine with horrible tall gearing.
My 2023 TRD Pro Tundra gains speed so much more effortlessly than my old 5.7 tundra which was also light years ahead of the 3rd gen Taco. I wouldn't be surprised at low 6's 0-60 in 4wd high in good air.

It will spin the tires in 2-4th gear in the rain with TC off and pulling an 8k lbs trailer you have to be a little careful taking off from an uphill stop as it will spin the tires even with 1k lbs of tongue weight helping traction. Not even in the same ballpark as the 3.5 liter taco...not even the same sport.

I doubt 4.7 is accurate but it's what it measured along with several other runs in the 5's. I have some fast cars and my last 'truck' was a Cayenne twin turbo so I'm familiar with fast accelerating vehicles and the Tundra is fast. The weird thing is, just stomping the pedal to the floor doesn't seem to give the best acceleration but rather just the right amount of almost full throttle with the ALSD on so it can hook up.
