120k Service Cost Estimate too High?

Hey guys, I've just hit 120k and due for a service on my 2010 5.7L 4x4 Tundra.

First estimate was quoted at:
Transmission fluid change- $318 (definitely one I don't want to do myself)
Diff and Transfer case drain and fill- $371
Coolant change- $168
Plugs- $438 (seems exceptionally high)
($1295 before tax with no mention of greasing the drive shafts/U Joint, filters, or even oil change. Not sure why they didn't quote them, but whatever.)

Does this seem reasonable? Seems almost more expensive than I'd expect from a dealer...

I'm waiting on another shop's quote that I'll get in the morning that I used to go to with my Subaru, but if I get similar rates I'll probably just have the Transmission done, and do the rest myself... A few youtube videos make all but the tranny job seem pretty easy.

 

The price on plugs is highway robbery. Are they replacing coil packs as well for the money?

The price on diffs and transfer case is about double what your cost is for oil if I recall correctly. Personally, I’d do it all myself if you have the time.

 

differential cost is justifiable if they are using the Toyota spec 75W stuff.

You could get that cost down to $318 by doing the work yourself with the information on this board.

The transmission service is also likely just a drain and refill of pan.

 

I believe the transmission was quoted at a full change/flush, but I can't remember if maybe he meant the coolant was a full flush. But yes I think that's the plan, have the transmission done, do the rest myself.

Correct, the 14+ have a different t-case (borg warner) that calls for 75w.

 

Yep. I used Mobil 1 in all of the cases.

I paid for Toyota antifreeze, used Valvoline ATF.

 

I wouldnt pay that amount myself, but if you dont have the time/desire to do it then thats a different story. In all honesty the hardest part about doing everything you listed would be making sure the truck is level. Plugs shouldnt be more than 150 bucks at autozone, the drain and fill of the tranny is probably only about 5 quarts, and the Tcase and diffs total is probably less than 10 quarts. You could save like $700 if you did it yourself, plus you would get the piece of mind knowing its done right, instead of finding out later that some 20 year old tech torqued the ever loving crap out of your fill plugs or something. Just my 2 cents.

 

That's always the question huh? Time vs money... Well got another quote from a mechanic I've used and like (Just inconveniently far away from my new place) and he quoted roughly $1000 for all that plus the brake fluid and replacing my CV axle. Honestly I think he's charging like $400 for labor tops and that's worth it to me. Unless my last mechanic that's closer gets back to me with a similar quote, 1k isn't bad for 120k service and a cv axle.

 

1000 bucks for all that including bleeding brake fluid and a cv axle is a really good deal.

My local dealership quoted me $650 for the plugs on my 2015. Even the service advisor said "wow".

 

Well. The two plugs at the firewall are indeed a bit of a b!tch.

 

Just went to the dealership for my 2007. Based on other recommendations on this forum I asked for front and rear diff service, transfer case, replace plugs and also let them do the air and cabin filters (those last two I REALLY should have done myself but time is money and I'm really busy lately). Was $840 ... also includes their other 30 point inspection and break check. It seems like a lot but I am happy to put a little money into this super reliable truck.

 

That's actually not a terrible price considering the plugs can be a pain.
