New Tundra Break-in period, first fluid changes

When should I have the first engine oil change, and other fluid changes on a 2021 Tundra?

 

I did my first oil change on my 2020 Tundra at 5,000 miles. I believe after engine break-in, the first oil change is important.

 

Make sure you actually red line the engine for many times so piston rings then are seated properly.

 

400-700 miles is my average on new vehicles. Always delivered great results, never have had lubrication related problems.

 

10k. Drive it like you stole it. It’s a Toyota.

 

The dealership's service department will schedule your "free" service check which should include an oil change.

 

Follow the owners manual…a lot of good information there.

 

I don't have any science to back up my method other than experience but I change the oil and filter at 1k, 3k and 5k miles and then at every 5k miles after that.

 

I changed oil well before recommended OCI.

There is break-in materials and assembly material etc you'll find in bottom of the canister.

I like to get those out early.

Pro-tip: don't lose your marbles at site of the material.

I've done this on 5 new 5th gen 4Runners and my Tundra.

At first oil change I also verify diff levels and check for major chunks.


For break in city driving or accel and deccel intervals for probably 100-200 miles.

The manual recommends a specific break-in procedure for 1000 miles that generally recommends slower speeds, caried driving conditions. This is likely for gears as well as ECU learning as much as engine break in.

 

On a new truck I usually give it a few thousand miles and change the transmission fluid when I do the first oil change. I am not sure it is needed but I do it.

 

this is the best idea to follow.

my truck is new with 35 actual km but I am going to do first change at 500-1000km then at 3000km and then 8000km regular service.
Mobil 1 0w20

 

My maintenance reminder is on. I’m getting my oil changed at the end of the month. It will have 5000 miles on it. And state inspection. Even tho inspection is not due till April.

 

Got my second oil change today @ 20k and she rumbles oh so good on down the road.
BONUS -they torqued the skid plate correctly so no squeaking.

 

Here is what I’ve done with 2, 5th Gen 4Runners and my 2019 Tundra.

•First oil change at 2,000 miles, followed by 5,000 mile intervals.
•Rear differential at 15,000 miles, followed by 30,000 mile intervals.
•Drain/Fill transmission at 25,000 miles, followed by 25,000 mile intervals.

 

Once or twice in the first 20 miles is sufficient.

 

I change my own oil and told them not to in the comment section. Does it seem accurate that they told me it will be 229 dollars to get my 5,000 mile inspection done? I thought that was part of toyota care, but when I made my appointment online, that's what it stated as the cost.

 

I just do it when the truck tells me to. Easy peasy

 

How far is a km???? You need to put that in perspective for those os us south of the border
