    Too many mods to come
Im ready to snowboard this year. I wasn't able to go last year since I shattered my foot/heel. Should be interesting since I still have a ton of pain. Also on the todo list is to sell the Jeep Wrangler no better time than now in this market. Called a few dealers and got offered 33k lol 2017 44k miles

I haven't been into skiing for a while, but most of our kid's friends who ski seem to prefer silver Mt. Think the water park has a lot to do with that though.

Just talked about this the other day with friends. I spent a lot of days boarding in my youth, but haven't been in 12 years and seeing the lines and prices and such, have very little interest at the moment getting back into it. I like spending time outside in the cold still, so I just go fishing instead!

Cheers Bro! I’m dry until about 6:30. Gotta take my son to an appt.

The Subie dude was @RainMan_PNW’s daughter’s BF. I think that’s the guy he’s talking about.

At least, my daughter had better not have a boyfriend…

I feel ya on the daughter thing. My oldest is 8, trying to soak up all the kid moments before she starts rolling her eyes at me. :D

Oh yeah...Mine is 12. I went nuclear on her a few times over the break and so she's keeping her distance right now. Momma is handling another topic so everyone stays calm and collected. Such is life.

    Fun times, can't wait!

What does she charge for babysitting? Might come in handy if we do that camp meet-up. :D

    Yep, the Subie mechanic.
    It’s currently a mutual break-up. We’ll see how things go. Hoping I don’t lose my mechanic…

Yeah - mine’s 20 and she’s in need of a lot of hugs right now from mom and dad.
Sucks for her - only her second boyfriend (and she dumped the first one). I remember how much it hurt when I was that age.

I still laugh when I think back on those days and how much of an emotional mess I was after a break-up. It felt like the end of the world. Unfortunately it takes 20+ years of more “life” to teach you otherwise. Too bad we don’t have that much perspective at a young age.

Glad you and your wife both have a good relationship with her. It will pay dividends in the future.

Progress being made on the chores. Unwinding Christmas lights and wire from the garland. PITA.

Different topic. Anyone here ever lived in Texas?

Nope. Been down there a few times to DFW, Austin, and San Antonio. Don’t think I could live there, and I know my wife wouldn’t uproot from the PNW.

Being heavily pursued by a company in Austin. Weighing the options.

Austin reminds me a lot of Portland in its “progressive” thinning in the areas I’ve been while also having great music and nightlife. I’m too old for constant nightlife though…
In the city, there were a lot of homeless (this was pre-pandemic) and they were very bold with their panhandling - not like Portland where they seen to stick to the camps mostly.
August it is fuhking HOT. And humid.

lots of industry moving into Austin outskirts.

Yes, and commutes look kind of crappy. However, the last two years have made me think about a lot of things. My wife and I are not really happy with where we currently live so we are open to options. We would be outside of the Austin downtown, likely southeast or southwest. Schools there appear to be much better than here as well so possibly a better option for my girls.

For sure. Totally get it. We had neighbors about 16 years ago move down that area because the company her husband worked for relocated there. They’ve thrived down there.

I’m on the other end of the trajectory on my career and starting to look at who to train to replace me in 8-9 years. Kids are now technically adults. When we retire, we’re looking to stay PNW but away from people…remote enough that a trip into the city for major supplies is a planned monthly sort of thing.

I turn 44 next month and like the idea of retiring by 55. I could likely do it with my current company but nothing is guaranteed. This opportunity could accelerate the retirement date due to comp package but nothing is guaranteed. Comes down to if I want to chase the dollars and if it ultimately is better for my family.

    Lol - I wish.
Reality is that it will depend on where my kids end up. If they both end up in the same region, we’ll be there too. If they don’t, I’m gonna have to be near an airport!

For sure. I’d move to IL or CA if it was ultimately better for my family. Thankfully, it’s not. :D

My bro is in Austin and I’ve visited him a few times. Love the area, but no clue what it is like for kids. He’s solo, so his life is all about golf, concerts and beer.

Have never been able to wrap my head around how they hide inside in the summer and do outdoor stuff in the winter.

My bro and I are designing our retirement homes and dreaming of land. There’s an 11 acre plot for $400k-ish with territorial view of Bear Lake in UT that has us shaking. Beautiful area…

You are nice. I’m going where I want. The wife gets a master veto, but I’m not putting any thoughts into where my kids land. But the airport is a critical component to the homestead.

Unfortunately. But there was a lot of summer issues with lack of rainfall. Hopefully it will be a good fawning season this spring with greener vegetation.

I lived in West Ft Worth Texas - sure do miss the gas prices, food and the $100 vehicle registration costs per year.
