I had never noticed the 12v power supply on the dash (seen on above long video). Is this a usual with Toyota?upload_2022-1-7_13-27-13.jpg

No, it's new for this Tundra. Its to plug in dash cameras or other electronics you might have on the dash.

why not give the non hybrid the same GVWR, that would give some really nice payload numbers for the non hybrid

How do they actually determine GVWR? Is it the manufacturer that decides it, is there some kind of standards they use to test it or does the manufacturer just pick a number and go for it.

The Car and Driver data gives us some real world information though.

0-60, 5-60, 30-50, and 50-70 times are all within the time you’d expect a heavier vehicle with similar power to be behind. What is puzzling to me is the time to 100mph.

The TRD Pro takes 18 seconds to reach 100mph, and the Ford PowerBoost does it in 13.7 seconds. The trap speeds tell a similar story 92mph for the TRD Pro and 101mph for the Ford. Those are massive gaps in performance, and if you drive two lane highways they’re pretty relevant.

I’m passing slower moving vehicles in the 60-80mph, or 70-90mph speed range to get out make the pass and tuck back into my lane. I don’t dawdle in the opposite lane of traffic when I’m passing on a two lane. Somewhere the 2022 Tundra appears to fall on its face above 70mph with glacially slow acceleration.

Very convenient, just plug in dash cam and run wires through the back of dash, up the pillar and mount the unit next to rearview mirror.

No standards, 100% on the manufacturer to determine how far they want to push their parts

Body colored grill surround. Overall this and the TRD Pro are the best looking of the new model.

    Good: colour matched grill surround
    Bad: all that f***ing chrome

What annoyance at toyota headquarters equates chrome with luxury??

:puke:I don't see much difference between a Platinum and this. Interested in what was done inside to cause the creation of an entirely new trim lvl.

the SR5 TRD Sport is the best looking model exterior I think, its all color match

if I do get one of these things, (which remains to be seen vs 2022 AT4), I will get a platinum and harvest the parts from the TRD Sport to color match the rest, grill surround, grill , fender flares, rear bed thingy.

full color match platinum blueprint with black 18" wheels is all I'm interested in, that is IF I like the test drive, and IF I can fit it in my garage. The AT4 is looked pretty good to me as well 6.2 V8, comes color matched.

As I dropped my kids off today at school here's a capstone feature. Self closing doors. Not like auto open and close. But they constantly don't shut it hard enough so let's get a feature that finishes the job.

I'll take things Toyota should have followed through with for 1000 Alex. These aren't color matched like in the 360 tool. They are black.

Are the sure the AT4 fits in your garage? I believe they made the wheelbase about 3" longer on the 2019+ vs the 2014-2018s (144 to 147), though I'm not sure about the overall length.

I think its 231 and the tundra is 233.6. It so close it will have to be test drive for sure, but 2-2.5 inches can make or break it

The number one complaint from everyone it seems is the big huge grill. The reason it appears that way is because everything is all black, making the grill look bigger than what it is. If they would have simply painted that piece in your pic, it would look like a normal grill.
When this truck was relaeased, right off the bat everyone was talking about the grill, and everyone was suggesting painting the lower piece. If pretty much everyone noticed it immediately, then how in the world did the designers not think of doing this. You’d think that at least one person would have suggested painting it. Something so simple would change the look of the whole truck.
I will admit though that the all black grill is kinda growing on me, on the pro model at least.

So to me this means things like payload really don't mean anything other than the fact that some manufacturers are willing to push their stuff to the limit and others aren't.

Bingo. Anyone who has driven F150's a bunch at work and loaded them up can attest the Tundra handles the weight much better. It sure does squat a lot, but it still feels planted even with max weight in it.

The way I look at it - F150 max payload is the max it can handle without risking breaking something with a decent bump in the road, it drives much differently even at 50% capacity; Tundra max payload it'll drive the same as when it's empty, breaking point is way beyond max payload.

I get it looks like I'm picking on the F150, but it's what I have experience in. I haven't max loaded my wife's Ram yet even - the Tundra does the heavy work over it.

Ok, I admit, I have to go back to close it like 70% of the time. 20% from that is just to make sure it's actually closed
