Very clean, nice work! Flush is the way to go, looks so good.

For USB, I used the Metra AX-TOYUSB adapter. Don't think it does USB in, but I can charge my phone with it.

For the sound, I did have to go into the OEM settings and adjust the Amp. After that, sounds so good.

Your backup camera looks pretty good. Mine seems to be much lower resolution. Trying to figure that out now.

Not sure if you tinkered with the steering wheel controls when programming your Maestro, but there are a couple cool changes you can make. I set my "preset up" button to display the front camera when held down. Comes in handy when pulling into a tight space and you wanna turn on the camera quickly.

Hey @panicman i just made an order for the same setup.

thank you for the fantastic write up!

I have a 2021 though so there might be some differences. I’m also partially color blind so matching these colors will sure be fun lol. I don’t understand fully much about the maestro. I understand the basics but is the maestro something that can be tossed in later, in theory? As in its back ordered through crutch field til February so wondering if I could still use the head unit that’s arriving this week

Maestro RR or RR2. Is needed to retain your factory steering wheel control among other features. You will need it. It can be obtain through Amazon. It is still available.

Maestro iDatalink ADS-MRR2 Interface Module https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087XCCN6P

here is the comparison between the RR and RR2. Pick one that fit your best need.

Thanks! I would wait, myself. Were you able to get the TO2 harness?

Without the Maestro, all of your steering wheel functions will be dormant.

The other thing I can’t stress enough is that wiring the harness up outside the truck makes the installation much easier.

Most of my 4-ish hours of installation were spent adapting the brackets and then trying to reverse-engineer the Metra dash kit. The actual act of plugging things in took minutes as opposed to the hour or more I would have been hunched in the dark splicing wires.

Amazon has the Maestro and the TO2 harness in stock as a bundle for $180 right now, delivery in a week. That’s way less than I paid: https://www.amazon.com/iDatalink-Ma...refix=idatalink+maestro+toyota,aps,140&sr=8-7

Thanks for all the help fellas! This should be an interesting project for someone who struggles with color shades but I am very excited. I ordered through crutchfield so it included the TO3 harness instead of the TO2 harness. Mine is the 2021 so I guess we shall see. I did end up ordering the maestro through Amazon as crutchfield is back ordered until February

I got all of my stuff in the mail today with the exception of the maestro RR unit itself. I got everything wired up with what I believe is the correct colors. Question is, do you guys know if this “should” power on without the maestro RR unit? Just for shits and giggles I wanted to play around with the fit of the head unit into the dash and plugged in what I had and boom, no power lol. I may have done the wire matching incorrectly.

    Seeing colors does help.
If you want, you can post pictures of your harness and we can see if you got it all matched up.

hey...great write up... I'm definitely doing this very soon...

question about the OBD plug.... what kind of information can you get from the computer to the radio for display?..

Hey fellas, thanks for all the help this far. I talked with someone from crutchfield and this unit with the TO3 harness for the tundra will not work without the maestro RR unit. Unless I wanted to run power directly from the battery. Just leaving this comment here in case anyone else is as impatient as I am and wants to try it early like I did lol.

I got my maestro mrr unit in the mail today and got everything installed. It all works except the backup cam which is shitty but for now, super stoked that everything else works! I love the head unit, gonna take some time to get adapted to it all but so far, it’s beautiful. Just have to take it back out and reorganize/run wires better.

I plugged the camera RCA from the TO2 harness into the brown RCA fm on the Pioneer harness. I have a clear view:

Not as much as I was hoping for. I’ll get some pictures up.

RPM, volts, open door indicator, tire pressures.

I would really like to see temps, engine and transmission. I’m wondering if I can use the OBD fusion app and include it in the accessible Apple CarPlay apps.

    thanks for the information...

that's exactly what I have plugged into my OBD right now (OBD FUSION)...and im wondering that as well...
I like the radio.. but you can still install radio WITHOUT using the OBD plug???

    great thread....thanks again

    Thanks guys!

I can pull mine and see, but I am confident you can pull the OBD socket and be fine. In fact, I really do plan to see if I can make OBD fusion show up on CarPlay, and I’ll post the results.

And for the record, I still have no usb/charger in the dash. I think I’ll have to try to contact pioneer support for that.

And, I think I’ll have to have my 5 channel amp tuned, it just doesn’t sound dialed in when I crank it, and I don’t want to blow anything.

Other than that, I’m very pleased. This unit has not crashed on me at all. Apple CarPlay picks up immediately when you start the truck. Sound quality is excellent over Bluetooth, phone calls are very clear.

    Added bonuses,

-the screen is just huge and clear and TG you can read this screen wearing polarized sunglasses- that drove me crazy with the stock unit.

-in the main function menu, you can activate your rear camera anytime. Now I want a front facing camera!

-SO many settings for sound, individual speaker levels, crossover controls, seating position sound focusing, etc.. now I just need time to figure all of it out.

    @panicman

Does your radio give you the option to choose gauges from the Maestro setting?
Here are some of the gauges i have set up on my jvc-z1000w. There are more option to pick for each individual gauges. A/F ratio, engine, trans temp, braking dist. Accelerator position. Etc…

Yes- mine looks nearly identical to yours. However, the number of options of gauges is either smaller, or I just haven’t figured out how to find them.
I’ll post up pictures of mine so people can see what the features look like, what they could take or leave, and hopefully inform them in their choice of head units if they are looking.

Thank you for posting yours up!

Your gauges are definitely smaller. Don’t know why pioneer didn’t make it full screen. Look like the option fir tranny fluid temp is also greyed out. So you can’t choose it.

You can choose trans fluid temp. However, it’s only an option to select for the center “large” gauge. This is how it is on my 7600 in the 4Runner at least.

It just won’t let me select it.

To make matters worse, I can’t use CarPlay and the OBD2 at the same time because I can only connect via WiFi to one of them at a time.

    anybody have any ideas?

    Say whut??

my rr maestro or what ever its called has a wired connection to the obd2. Also runs carplay flawlessly at the same time as gauges with trans temp. In my 4runner.

    try to “validate PIDs”

Mine operates both at the same time. The only time carplay wont work is when i connect hdmi to screen mirror and if i am playing videos via usb thumb drive. Must disconnect carplay for both to work. Not quite sure why yours doing that.

Yes mine too. No matter what gauge cluster on the pioneer I select, and then whatever specific gauge within that cluster, any time Transmission fluid temp is displayed, it’s gray.

Today, I pulled the Maestro OBD connection. Then, I plugged in my OBD2 transmitter.

I know from using it prior that the OBD2, using the OBD Fusion app, displays the transmission temp values.

However, to use the OBD Fusion app, I have to connect to it using WiFi.
Doing that disconnects me from Apple CarPlay. So, I can pull up the temps on my iPhone, but it won’t display to the head unit.

I will look at the ‘validate PIDs” option again.

    Workaround note: satellite.

the Satellite Radio harness was totally unnecessary. Just get the app if you are a subscriber and it plays via CarPlay and sounds very clear. Also, no more annoying drops in the hills.

Now where can I get a satellite antenna delete…?

Your install has prompted me to install the same H/U as yours, I believe I have a solution for your ac panel being loose. I'm going to use some dense foam blocks and velcro between the ac control panel and the frame behind it.
