No way are lower control arms built to take that kind of lateral load. There goes the alignment at a minimum if you try to pull using LCAs.

Not sayiong it wouldnt work, but jerking a full size truck from the lca just doesnt sound right. It cant be good for it. Not to mention the fact that most of the time when your in a stuck situation, the lca would be hard to get to without a good amout of digging through mud, snow, etc.

Makes me wonder why manufacturers even put tow hooks on the trucks to begin with.

Seriously, many of us like having tools in the box, not lack of tools in the box. When you find a $100 five minute solution please let us know.

Might be buried in the fine print somewhere with some asterisks.

That video is a dive into "Corporate-think". Surveys say most prospective owners don't use or want things like tow hooks, 1500W inverter, full-time 4HI.

my point was I have never been in a situation where I needed to get pulled out of a situation with recovery straps…..hence never the need to use my tow hooks.

To that point Ive never been in a situation where i felt I had to have a pano sunroof to help save the day, but they force it on you with certain packages or trims, costing more money for something i will use so little that i will probably forget its there. Im sure some folks want it tho, just like some folks want/need tow hooks.

And, as in the sunroof example, you have a choice to buy the truck or not given its limitations…….if tow hooks are a deal breaker, don’t buy it. If you don’t want a sunroof, don’t buy it. But this thread is essentially buying the truck with the sunroof and after the fact lamenting Toyota for having the audacity to put an expensive sunroof in a truck because it will never be used…..despite the fact that is was bought with eyes wide open.

Tow hooks are not YET available on a 2022 tundra. There was a YouTube engineer who suggested that Toyota was working on a resolution, even going so far as to say that the air dam has notches cut out of it presumably for retrofitting tow hooks. But buying the truck knowing it doesn’t have tow hooks and having 21 pages eviscerating Toyota for not putting them on is missing the point - for the people who bought the truck knowing full well there WERE NO TOW HOOKS

Please help with the logic of using the basis of never having found oneself in a situation where they might be needed to conclude the following about the rest of us.

"This is much to do about absolutely nothing."
    "doesn't actually matter"
    "is irrelevant."

I live in Texas. Should I conclude that an engine block heater doesn't actually matter regardless of what the Canadians say? Have I ever needed one? Nope!

Was what? Fact? What’s your point? You think the only people who get stuck need to be pulled out by tow hooks? Or do you just like to use them to prove a nonexistent point? I will wait for your answer……but honestly don’t care. It isn’t a swinging D contest - just 15 years of experience not needing them. YMMV

Havent bought the truck yet, kinda waiting on the pro, and hoping by the time it comes out, they will come up with a way for the tow hooks. imo, its good b people are talking about it, im pretty sure the reason toyota is trying to figure it out now is because of all the reviews and comments complaining about the lack of them.

The inverter and full-time 4Hi are great features. And the annoying part about the Full-time 4Hi is that Toyota has arguably the best solution. The transfer cases in some 4Runner trims, the Lexus GX, Land Cruiser and Sequoia with the torsen center differentials are probably the best full-time system you could have. I love the full-time mode in my GX. And I especially love that I can put it in 4Lo full-time. I use it to move my trailer around the yard and into camp sites without any driveline binding. And 95% of the time my GX is offroading I never lock the center diff. Just put it in 4Lo and it crawls over whatever.

My F150 has 4Auto, and I am glad I have it. It's not perfect, but I like it a lot more than having a regular t-case.

Considering the whole point of this post was to debate the necessity of tow hooks I think our whining about it is happening in the right place. I don’t think those of us complaining about it have bought the truck yet either. After all of the negative feedback on the issue (possibly in part the feedback of this thread) Toyota has apparently acknowledged the dismay of customers about the missing tow hooks according to this video as seen just after the 17 minute mark. As far as not buying the truck if it doesn’t have tow hooks, I quite literally won’t. If they aren’t able to realize that basic need of a truck owner what else have they overlooked…cough lack of a step for bed access cough. I’m perhaps more easily turned off than others though, seeing as my needs borderline require a 3/4 ton truck but I don’t want to give up my 2nd gen tundra reliability. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vBD_EnpQdwA&t=1216s

I salute you sir and your amazing discovery! How could not have seen this before. I understand now and it changes everything! All we have to do is only get stuck when the rear hitch is the ideal recovery point. I cannot believe no one thought of that! It's so simple, it's true genius! If TRD had any sense left, they give Ivan Stewart his notice to make room for you to consult.

In fact why stop there, I see you hail from the wild and wooly woods of South Maryland. (aka North DC) Perhaps you could motor down the GW Parkway to the Pentagon and show the generals how they've been doing it all wrong. You could save the taxpayers a fortune removing those now worthless recovery hooks off everything from the HMMWV to the M1!

Thank you for enlightening us to the error of our foolish ways. You sir have done us all a real service.

You're most welcome for the free enlightenment.....and certainly there are more qualified people than myself to counsel military personnel. I choose to question things that I have some knowledge of and stay on "the lack of tow hooks is not a catastrophe" side of the fence. You, on the other hand, seem to have all the answers.

And THIS makes much more sense...….an owner who knows what he wants and isn't willing to settle. Stands behind the decision while being disappointed in the lack of engineering foresight. I have made it pretty clear that my target of comments were toward the people who bought the truck knowing it didn't have tow hooks (or a transmission cooler) and continuously rail against a reliable, safe, and dependable automobile manufacturer. Nothing more and nothing less.

Yeah, it was surprising to me the all-new Tundra with Crawl Control and rear locker didn't include the proven Torsen center diff. Very stout and versatile system proven for millions of miles in Land Cruisers, 4Runners, Sequoias, Lexus.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
How long before someone snags a transfer case off of a wrecked LX600 once they show up in a junk yard and tries to put it in a Tundra?
