No shit just walked out my front yard, hooked up a line to my recovery hook and my neighbors car recovery hook and pulled them out of a ditch.

    So there is that... :curls:

I'd just like to take the time to address those who said this thread was stupid, a waste of time and would never go anywhere...

I am a little salty about the merger of some sort of thread from Sept though. Not sure why my OP is now post number 99. I assume we can thank @ColoradoTJ for this fuckery? :D

And here I thought you didn't love me anymore. Your input would of been better delivered in the form of a unicorn meme.

Lol, but yes I'm a lazy phone poster. I'll try harder.

Another guy lamenting lack of tow hooks. On that road at that time if someone was stuck there was little he could do to help them out. Maybe hook a recovery strap to his LCA, that's about it. That's bush league for a supposed badass truck.

Even if he could use the lca without damage, just think of the fun having to lay down and dig thru tbe snow to get to it, vs just having a tow hook out in the open.

    Buy a Ford…..

    :deadhorse:

In the amount of years that I have owned 4Runners and a tundra (15+), I have camped, wheeled and been stuck in snow / mud. How many times have I needed tow hooks? Zero……I much prefer the reliability and resale value of the Toyota vehicles. If tow hooks are the deal breaker for you, buy a different brand and move on. It will only be a matter of time before an aftermarket solution is manufactured for the less than 1% of people who will actually ever need or use them.

This is much to do about absolutely nothing. ALL brands have their hits and misses. Toyota misses are a piece of metal that will be easily fabricated to remedy the situation, take 5 minutes of your time to install and cost $100 to do so. Other brands misses are transmission issues, electrical gremlins and other MAJOR problems that cost thousands and keep your trucks in the shop for weeks / months.

Yeah, it’s your right to complain about paying $60k for a vehicle without tow hooks and how dare the most reliable and highest resale value truck company overlook such a major component of our trucks…….I just choose to focus my time and effort of stuff that actually matters and is relevant.

    Rant over…….carry on

What matters to you may not matter to others and vice versa. How is that so hard to understand?

It’s not…..but the same people who post pages of whining and complaining about a lack of tow hooks surely can absorb an opposing point of view every now and then. If it matters that much, than don’t buy a 2022 tundra.

Your "opposing point of view" stated that this is all about nothing when clearly it's not.

Tow hooks are like a concealed carry gun. If you need it and don’t have it, you’re just F’d. It’s easy to say you don’t need it until that 1 time that you do. I’ve already seen scenarios where they have been needed where there was not a suitable alternative. In my opinion, trucks being used like a truck should absolutely have them. Obviously many Toyota truck customers aren’t using theirs like a truck to give Toyota the idea via their customer polling that we didn’t care to have them.

Its not that simple. The problem is, the way they designed the front end, looks like theres no safe place to mount tow hooks. From the looks of it, you have to go back over a foot or more to get through the plastic. Looks like the bumber would have to be reworked also. So its not a simpla as $100 pair of tow hooks.

What about his nieghbor tho, what if the back of their vehicle was in the ditch and the only way he could pull them out was from their front? Im not really thinking about me pulling other folks out, im thinking me getting stuck and not having a place for something to hook to me without damage.

Agreed. This video gives a good look at where tow hooks would have to be made to work. The frame rail is substantially higher than the bottom of the grille so it makes to tough to mount any tow hooks you could use that wouldn’t destroy the bottom of the front fascia once you start pulling and take up the slack. Can’t see a plow ever being mounted to one of these either. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QwJmW0vbc_Q

Neighbor was in the ditch and only accessible from their front bumper. I also like pulling from the front of my truck because I can use my front wheels to steer the direction of the pull better.

I dont think they left them off on purpose. I bet by the time they thought of them, they realized the problem and they were too far along on the design process to start over.

Would love to see a Toyota engineer put that in writing as the work around for not having a recovery point.
