Any advice on shocks?

Thanks in advance to all. This place is amazing. I have a 2018 double cab SR5. I’m an avid fly fisher guy and I’m curious what shocks you all recommend. I’m currently running stock and drive mostly gravel/dirt roads with lots of washboard and pot holes to get to the spots I love. I’m rather new to truck ownership and just don’t want to break my truck. I run bfg ko2 225/70/r18 and like to go fast off road! Cheers

To not break your truck, don’t include block spacers above the shocks (doing so risks breaking the shocks, not actually the truck, especially if you like to go fast off-road).

You can spend a bit more than convenient, on up to thousands of dollars. For washboards and what you describe, I’d check out Bilstein, or Ikon if you want to go faster… and pricier. If you mean you like to go really fast off-road, definitely choose a rebuildable coilover with reservoirs. If you don’t know yet how fast you’ll go, or exactly how you’ll use your truck, check out some build threads on here— see what others do with their trucks, then checking out the mods that make it possible; it’s a good way to learn what’s what and then narrow down your options.

 

Check out the suspension forum here, look at the stickies there up top. The threads there will show lots of different setups, pics, reviews, etc. Choices also are dependent on if you want to stay stock height or add some lift up front.

You have lots of options. On the lower priced end- Bilstein 5100s, 6112s, middle cost- Bilstein8100s, eibach pro truck 2.0, toytec lifts, Old Man Emu, Dobinsons and others. Higher cost- fox, kings and more.

Best to look over the forums here, you will learn a lot and will be able to narrow down choices based on your needs, wants, budget. Be informed!

 

Thanks for the info. Truck feels fine with stock shocks, I just know they won’t last long driving the way I do. I’m not trying to do much but just an upgrade from stock.

 

Welcome from Colorado. Call Toytec and ask for Hugo. Give him your thoughts on what sort of wheeling conditions you do. He will have several very good options for you based upon your budget and need.

I just had my Eibach coil overs and my rear shocks and my JBA UCA’s and Toytec shackles installed yesterday by my local auto shop, the truck rides and feels great, plus the mechanic said the parts I ordered was a nice kit I put together and was easy to install with no issues. Hugo was a great help at Toytec.

 

I just installed the Eibach 2.0 on the front and Bilstein 5160's on the rear, and love the set-up. WAY Better than stock. ToyTec is another great option.
