Are the suspension and steering of 2003 and 2005 interchangeable? They're 4.7L. I'm looking at the lower control arms, lower and upper ball joints, rack and pinion, tie rod ends, cv axle...etc.
    Thanks.

Are they the same type of truck? Like both AC or both double cab? Both 2wd or both 4wd?

That's a good question, but I'm asking in general when I search for parts.

If you're willing to look up part compatibility, just got to https://parts.toyota.com and plug your VIN into the search box, then dig to find the factory part numbers.

If you can't get them cheap enough for your liking there, you should be able to use the part numbers for cross-reference at Rock Auto. Whatever you do, don't buy on scAmazon or Fleabay, risk of counterfeits is very real and fairly high.

05-06 lower control arms will bolt to 04 and older frames. but you'll need 05-06 spindles to accept the larger ball joints.

So the 05-06 has bigger balls than the 00-04? Subconsciously, I disagree.

05-06 100% have bigger balls, and the knuckles are different to accept those balls!

@stevechumo Bigger isn't really right, they accept a bigger ball joint with larger fasteners but the rest is the same

The knuckles the same. Mostly. The bolts to attach the ball joint are a fair bit larger to combat the ball joint issues. And the ball joint itself is a bit larger. All in all if you can find all the parts for an 05-06 (some 04s had it too.) it’s a worthwhile upgrade

Are there any downsides/failures related to the 05-06? I believe I saw in my dealership records that mine was in for LBJ "drivability" work earlier within the first 12-24 months if memory serves. I still haven't dug into the suspension on mine because at 1st glance, everything looks fine.

They all 00-06 fail if not maintained. I think the 05-06 just have a slightly longer life span "if used with in the factory spec" b/c they are larger but all in all is a pretty shit design.
