the passenger seat is the issue? Could be the sensor pad too...I think we have those

    I would think so.

No it's the driver seat. I mentioned there was nothing in the passenger seat because if you sit something in the passenger seat that's heavy enough it can trick the sensor into thinking it's an unbuckled person.

I agree with Erik on this one. Every time I've had 'seat belt not fastened' light is flashing, it's always been the female end of things, but only once inside the receptacle and all other times it was something with the wiring farther down the chain, like corrosion, poor grounding. If I remember right, the circuit is naturally grounded, and when you insert the buckle it either interrupts or completes the circuit, and the dash light goes away.

I'd check your wiring on the female side first. Wish I had a shot of the floorboard to see how things are laid out.

right. That's why I was wondering if the sensor is going bad thinking that there is actually something in the passenger seat when there isn't.

You've never gone to, like, the liquor store, bought a box of bottles, and set them in the passenger side seat, then had the annoying af center dash light come on flashing?

    Drives me freaking nuts.

actually no. But couldn't it fail in the opposite way too? With no weight and it thinking there is weight or is that not possible?

Ah. Yes, I see what you mean. I'm not gonna run down to the truck at 10:45 to check, but I swear on my '06, I get a light in the gauge cluster if my driver seatbelt isn't fastened. When there's weight in the passenger seat but its seat belt isn't fastened, I'm pretty sure the flashing only happens below the radio, where the passenger airbag light is (and maybe older models have a key there to enable/disable the passenger airbag?)

Edit to add pic of the light that flashes when I have weight in passenger seat but seat belt isn't clicked, I swear it's this one (this isn't my truck, credit 12volt Tech here):

Yeah we have a key. Us OG’s. And a flashy light I think, where yours is. Wish I had mirror heat. I bought the switch but don’t have a spot for it.

    What is shift L?

I bought heated mirrors and they work when my rear defrost is on...
Oh, I missed something from @FirstGenVol after re-reading. I was thinking this was the center dash seatbelt light coming on and not the one on the instrument cluster. Which ever light it is should only be tied to that seat.

Shift L is 1st gear on the 05-06 since the column didn’t change for the 5 speeds additional gear

Na, makes sense. Completely redesigning that part for just one gear is pointless

By 05 the 2nd gen was well in development. That’s the big one. The design had its end in clear sightb

One might argue that while this move was good for the Tundra’s eventual evolution, the Tacoma is still struggling to reach FGT levels of awesomeness.

Tacoma peaked in 95-04. They will go above unless they shrink down again.

And yet Toyota just dethroned GM for 2021 champ so maybe it’s just all about the Benjamins.

I don’t hate my 2016. I think early Tacoma double cabs were ugly AF. The xtracab was a great two seater though.

A first gen Tundra in any cab config with modern interior would be killer though. That’s really the key difference to me, as I just swapped back to Taco tonight. So much more refined from seat to steering wheel to sound deadening to suspension.

I’m very curious how the new leafs and shocks will feel.

I mean, most 2nd gens look off to me too. But first gen double cab, it’s so confused. Am I a compact pickup or a reliable Ford Explorer? Sure you can fit 4 but can you really? To me, first gen Taco is 2 people max.

Now, with that said, all your mods to the green truck are awesome. I just think the cab configuration is odd. Imagine ditching the rear seats for a long bed and you have the same thing as our RC tundras. So, first gen taco DC is 4 seater with semi useless bed vs first gen Tundra RC as 3 seater with biggest possible bed for a midsize truck.

Third gen taco DC is still pretty damn tight. If T4R had MT as an option, I’d for sure want that now that I have my ‘02 back.

that bed on the 01 usually was fine. if we ever needed more it towed well. the tundras been great. but if im forced to get rid of all but one, the 2001 stays. that tacoma is the vehicle that'll be with me till im gone

Finished this video logging a front-end refresh on my 05 crew cab. I disassembled the entire front end and painted everything while rustproofing the frame. Replaced the struts, sway bar-links, and ABS sensors (not because I wanted to). Those things are a pain, especially up north. I totaled the truck recently, so much of this was in vain, but it was still fun and I learned a lot. I would love to buy one from down south that hasn't yet suffered the wrath of winter driving.

Thanks @abcinv If I had some mad tube bending skills I had another similar idea I would have done. But this does look quite good even though a piece of plate and tube per side really shouldn't look good. The idea was to fill out the bottom a tad to hide the body parts hanging below the CO bumper as it is designed.

I feel that way about all 4 door trucks in stock form. Changing suspension, trimming the bed, adding bigger tires and off road bumpers seems to correct the weird proportions.

I really do love the extra cab tacos from 96-04.

It really isn’t reasonable or rational that I like the looks of 3rd gen DC and dislike that same config on 1st and 2nd Gen.

I originally wanted AC 3rd gen MT but I wanted offroad more than that so I wound up DC. I also thought AC 3rd gen Taco looked strange, especially the rear windows, but I did rather like the doors for loading stuff.

The config does work OK for kids. Once they are big, though, not sure.
