So some lady tagged by back end in the parking lot this morning. I was driving in and she was at a stop sign. Her "foot slipped off the brake" and she hit me, but I could swear that I was hit hard enough to move the back end of the truck over. And I just put those bumper caps on a couple months ago! Oh well, I guess it could have been worse.

Man that sucks. As you said, could have been worse but that doesn’t make it any less crappy!

That sucks about the accident. Glad you were not seriously injured or truck totaled. Right now for both situations is not good.

People suck. Buddy got his Tacoma rear ended by a teenager in mommy and daddys car and was saying her ‘brakes failed’. Yeah, when youre texting and dont use them they tend to not work you twat.

I think "foot slipped off the break" can be translated to texting behind the wheel.

I totally agree. It felt like it moved the back end of the truck over latterly when she hit. My guess is that she was in a hurry, “stopped” at the stop sign, looked left to see if anyone else was coming, and gunned it thinking I had passed.

I would have been passed, but there was a cross walk right in front of me so I slowed down as it was dark in that area.

Everything here is backlogged, so the earliest I could get in for an estimate at a decent place is Feb 1st. Then another month wait for repairs. I take good care of my truck and hate to see it sitting here like this. At least no one was hurt and she does have insurance that is more than willing to fix the truck.

Besides some paint damage, I visually only see damage to the passenger side of the bumper. Does anyone know if just that metal bumper end is replaceable, or will they replace the entire bumper?

They will only replace the damaged parts. The stock bumpers are modular and really suck IMO. As someone else said now is a good time to get a real bumper to replace that thing I call a trim piece.

Sorry about that. The “foot slipped of the brake” is the classic line given to insurance to minimize the penalty (dropping or raising premium).

Yet another case of the infamous, "Unintended Acceleration." Toyota needs sued into oblivion if it refuses to build it's vehicles 'I.P'....IMBECILE PROOF!

Seems the general rule the newer the cheaper made , seems like there allways making parts lighter to meet the MPG

Pix of the lady…? Did you get her number?

Maybe a custom bumper was meant to be.

I got a copy of her insurance and drivers license. Her insurance is going to pay for the repairs.

I don’t mind the factory rear bumper. What do I do, tell the repair shop to replace with aftermarket and I pay the difference?

Just send the quote to the insurance company and tell them to send you the check. Is it your shop or one they told you to use? Make sure the quote is for oem parts.

@ljburns your cervical spine looks horrible after being struck by that motorist! Now you take my advice and have a thorough evaluation performed before you sign any documents from insurance agencies.

I have had a mysterious headache and syphilis on my eyelid that all started the day of the accident. And I don't know how you knew about my horrific spinal pain! LOL.

It is a local shop that I was able to choose. OEM parts are a requirement for me. Not an option for anyone to cheap out. When I go in for the quote I will talk to the person doing the estimate.

I hate these POS drivers that can’t safely park or drive. Also the idiots that park close and ding your doors.

What is it with people and the brake versus throttle pedals - a.k.a. hitting the throttle pedal instead of the brake pedal when trying to stop? It seems to be increasing in frequency and I'm almost convinced this was behind the "stuck throttle" problems manufacturers were seeing a few years ago.

Keep an eye out for it in the accident videos on YouTube. You'll occasionally (quite often) see vehicles accelerate and the brake lights not come on until after the accidents.
