You had me worried for a minute. When my wife was diagnosed with the BIG C it required immediate surgery and the possibility of chemotherapy. I'm glad yours isn't that BIG C. Load up on Zinc, Vitamins B, C, and D. It'll definitely help.

    What up! C-crew! @bmf4069

@Festerw sorry that you're felling generally shitty. Hoping for speedy recovery for yall.

New plan from HR is to q-tine for 5 days (including today) If no symptoms in q-tine, return to Friday and mask for 5 days.

I'm lucky? that the Union negotiated an 80hr benefit time allowance so fortunately I don't have worry about anything other than calling Occupational Health tomorrow morning.

I don't feel terrible just a little run down with a gross cough.

No unions here for me anyways.... At this point in time I am unsure whether they will use some of my 10 vaycay days or just take medical leave. I'd rather take medical, and make up the hours next week since it is on the same pay period.

Still feeling mostly normal with a cough once in a while. Taste/smell is completely intact.

I can speak anecdotally on this one, but everyone is different.

Before jab existed, my boss at the time's two late-teen sons (overseas) got it from their school. Neither he nor his wife, living in the same house, managed to get it somehow, at least nothing w/symptoms.

With this most recent rash of cases, the mom & son I mentioned earlier (son jabbed, mom jabbed + boosted), I'm really close friends w/her husband (also jabbed, boosted 3 days prior) ... he managed to make it all of about 4-5 days before he got it, even with everyone masking in the house while awake and sleeping in separate rooms. Son's g/f got it too. All were back to normal within a few days. Complaints of brain fog. Super athletic family.

Two of my other closest friends are at the tail-end of theirs, which they picked up at or just after Christmas. She got it working on the city administration change. had typical cold symptoms, he's has brainfog but otherwise completely asymptomatic, but both PCR'd positive, him 2x because he didn't believe the 1st result and didn't want to miss a day at the golf course. She'd just lost her mom mid-November after 10wks in ICU, multiple ECMO treatments (unjabbed/thought it was another Tuskegee). Even if her mom'd made it out, her lungs were fucked, and would've been medically bankrupted.

Ask HR if you can file this away as sick time, or 3 days sick, 2 unpaid time off. Some places will let you go in the red ("borrow") sick days if you don't have any accumulated yet. My current gig killed their 10-day C-19 time off, but temporarily added 5 extra sick days (10 total) for 2021. I mysteriously :bananadance:got "really sick" the last two weeks of the year and conveniently used my remaining 9 days before I lost it, and as of yesterday, it looks like I have 10 more days in the system so I guess it's sticking around for 2022.

But anyway, hope you and @Festerw feel better soon. The only two people in my immediate circle of friends and family I know who had major issues with this latest one that seems to be catching everyone were over 30 and never got any jabs. Well, my friend's mom, but that's another story, and was the 'airline' variant instead of omicrap.

PS - Jabbed or not, take it seriously. Seems like the ppl who are dying are the ones who think they're badasses and realize they need help too late, or the ones with underlying conditions they didn't know about. Trouble breathing or getting lightheaded when you stand up seem to be red flags. The thought of either of you guys going silent on here and us hearing news thru the grapevine isn't compelling.

One July 4th, I and 5 friends took to two rowboats on a small lake with ~$2k worth of assorted fireworks for a 'bottle rocket war'.
One of the highlights was the captain of the other boat instructing his two shipmates to hold our boat wo we couldn't get away and standing over us with two 100-missile bricks of Saturn Missiles screaming, "DIE DIE DIE, MY DARLING!"
To say my boat lost the war would be a fair understatement. Had to throw away all the clothes I was wearing that night as they were thoroughly perforated with small burns.
Safety glasses, lol. We weren't even wearing life-vests. Proper piracy.

It's my understanding that FL's approach to it has yielded the elusive herd immunity. It's hard to believe they haven't all be exposed at this point. That the place isn't a mass grave proves that we will eventually get through this whole mess.

Ah yes, the "chicken pox party" approach. And I agree that we will all get it, it's too contagious not to. Hope everyone gets through it OK. My Grandparents are immunized and boostered and all the rest and just turned up positive, ironically in Florida.

"Chicken Pox Party"? That reminds me, I need to get a shingles shot sometime. Anyone here in the over 50 crowd been through that already? The nurse giving me the flu shot recently said it was painful.

I'm not sure if that means if it's a painful reaction or just IV in the back of the hand painful.

I got shingles my senior year of HS.
Bad times doesn't fully encapsulate how awful that was. If the shingles inoculation will prevent you getting it, I strongly advise looking into it.

Should we get a poll on which celebrity is dying next this coming year? I'm thinking Bob Barker from The Price is Right. I believe he's 98.

My next selection was Tony Bennett only because there is some thirty-something girl at my work who's a dedicated fan. Don't ask me how or why as I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Sadly, the wrong people are getting caught in the crossfire. My uncle is in south FL w/stage 4 lung cancer. He's been having a hell of a time getting access to a worthwhile pulmonologist because too many selfish assholes have them all tied up in ICU. We find out Tuesday (after months of waiting) whether or not the latest glimmer pans out. I champion freedom of choice, but my patience wears thing when those choices cause genuine collateral damage and folks continue to act like they DGAF.

Don't get me wrong though, I spent a couple of decades in FL, from Stuart to Jacksonville, everywhere in between from left to right coast. There are some real "special" folks down there.

I've been trying to get tested for covid since yesterday. No appointments and they are sold out of the home tests. I'm supposed to go visit my Mom in Florida. I feel fine except for a runny nose/congestion. Could be anything with the wild temperature swings we've had. 48 hours ago I was running the AC at home and today I woke up to snow on the ground.

That was my first symptom and I attributed it to the weather also. If you don't mind paying you can get a PCR turned around pretty quick. I sent mine out Thursday and had results Sunday.

Definitely get the shingles shot. The Chicken Pox party was when someone you knew got chicken pox as a kid, they had a slumber party to give it to all the other kids. Chicken Pox as a child is generally harmless. Chicken Pox as an adult can cause major issues, like sterility. So get it over with as a kid.

Having never seen this before, my initial reaction was that a giant ant was going to crawl out of one of those holes.

    Pretty cool though.

Haha! There were actually birds nests in some of the holes. Pretty cool place though, I bet the holes make some sort of noise when the wind is howling.

We had similar weather shift overnight in the cabin we're crashing in for the week up in Ellijay. Kids loved it. But it's gone as of about 10:15am, with ice cold gusts to replace it.

RE: Testing. Two suggestions in case it helps.

One, KNOX has a map which I have no doubt you checked, but in ATL, we have two PCR testing entities with multiple locations which are drive-up and for whatever reason our similar county map doesn't have them listed (Emergent, Viral Solutions). You may have similar in your area, may be worth looking into. I didn't know either existed until I opened Google Maps on my smartphone and searched for "drive-in PCR test" or similar. Google Maps found what our county didn't have listed. Next-day results for me with Emergent, I booked the family the night before for open @ 10am next day, we had results within 28 hours.

Two, RE: test kits, this is may sound wrong and, if so, I don't mean it in to. We were low on at-home kits. When we went to visit my parents for Christmas in southern AL, whose closest "big" city is Dothan at a 30ish minutes drive away, hardly anyone near them can be bothered to wear masks, much less buy a test kit. We opportunistically bounced into into a few different pharmacies and bought 3-4 two-pack kits while there to redistribute with friends at home because everywhere in ATL and other higher-density areas is sold the hell out right now and they're clearly not selling where we were. We found them not just at Walgreens and CVS, but Publix and Walmart also. You may have similar luck?

Assuming you took time off during year-end holidays, anyone else's 1st day back sucking ass after the break?

The more time I get away from this place, the more it makes me realize, after 22 years, I'm really not loving where I'm at. Still enjoy working in the field, just not in the niche I'm currently stuck.
