DD SSC2 Sports vs Pro

Are the pros really worth double the amount of money? I would like to purchase some for my bed rack for camp lighting.

 

No way you need pros for scene lights.

 

Have you run either of these?

 

I have the S1 wired and sports in the box. The S1 puts out ridiculous light and is much smaller.

Ah, no worries! I still think that the pro may be a bit excessive. I just can't find too much information on the sports

 

I haven't looked at the lumens side by side, but (2375 lumens) is the BD S1 I have in the hitch and it's gnarly. You don't want to look into it.
I did just learn the switchpro can dim to 50% and 10%, that's useful.

 

Your sale is the reason why I was looking into them more. I was kinda hoping you'd comment. Do you have any pictures of the sports in action?

 

@memario1214 Do you know how will I be able to wire the SSC2 to my trigger system? Specifically, it looks like the 3rd wire is meant for the backlight.

 

You can run the backlight on it’s own trigger circuit, tie it into another circuit like parking or cargo lights, or just snip the blue wire and not use it at all (my choice for now).

 

Can I connect it to the positive wire on the SSC2?

 

You could, but it wouldn't do anything useful. The high optics would overpower anything the backlight would do. The backlight is pretty low-powered if I remember what I read while doing my install.

 

Ok, good to know. Dumb question but is there a good way to combine 4 wires into one? I would prefer not to use a wire nut.

 

Crimp connectors are the way to go. There are some with heat shrink tubes built into them and are great for under-hood applications. Please don’t use wire nuts on 12-volt though… @BiggHertz might have a brain aneurysm.

indeed a crimp using the proper tool and a quality adhesive lined heat shrink is in my opinion the best recipe for a durable termination.

@YotaBro - what are you trying to accomplish?

 

I would like to combine 4 light pods onto one switch on my trigger system. In the past, I have been able to connect 2 light pods onto one but never tried 4.

 

Not much difference there. Just a larger sum conductor cross sectional area. Do you know what size (awg/mm) wire you’re trying to terminate?

These are t-taps, not something I would recommend for your application.

 

AWG - American wire gauge, typical ranges are from 8/0 to 32, where 32 is the smaller end of the spectrum.

look at the wires sheathing for markings.

 

I don't have the light pods with me. Basically, I want to combine 4 of the DD SSC2's into one switch. What is the best way to combine 4 different wires into 1? I was looking online to see if there is a connecter similar to this:

But I would like all 4 wires go into one connector to connect to a different wire. Hopefully I am making sense.

 

I tend to use open barrel splices and expensive tooling and heat shrink to make connections, but a humble close barrel but splice like the ones listed below or equivalent should get you what you need.

Assumption being that the 4 conductors are 16 awg or less.

So do I splice the four wires (4 light pods), put it in that connector, and put the last wire (the one that will connect to the switch) on the other end?

Well, you just made it so much easier. Last time I made it wayyyy more difficult then it needed to be.

 

Note: wire used is 16 AWG Tefzel wire (thinner insulation than most automotive PVC or TXL wire)

4 into 1 (un-crimped and not sealed) be sure to use crimped designed for insulated terminals
