Not trying to thread jack, but I have a factory set of take off 2022 tow hooks I'm willing to part with (see below picture). I'll take Venmo payments, travelers checks, logs of grizzly wintergreen lc, or copenhagen lc original. No low ball offers I know what I got. Serious inquiries only.

They're right on the table there next to my mud jug for scale.
Sorry I never got a picture of them on the truck....:D

That was good work. Great idea to run a snatch block. On a side note, that is a great scenario for wanting a locker, despite the clown on YouTube who says it’s a waste of money. 4LO and rear locked.

I've always enjoyed vids from these guys, definitely top notch stuff, thanks for posting this. It also reminds me that my jaunts on old logging roads aren't really off- Roading in the true sense of the word. :( :)

I was looking under the front bumper of my truck yesterday and I don’t see why you couldn’t easily add tow hooks. Ya the active air damn might need to be removed but who cares. The frame extends out on each side with area to attach hooks even if it’s a temporary kinda thing

The way the front crash bar interfaces with the frame will most likely result in the aftermarket creating recovery points similar to the ones for 4Runners, GXs, etc. Biggest issue with those being you have to watch pull angle and if you bury it to the bumper, you have some digging to do, and snorkeling if it's deep.

I'd wager they're less worried about the performance and more worried about the liability.

Engineers: we added lots of goodies to this truck; it's going to be a beast off road!

Lawyers: I don't know, that sounds like a scenario where someone could get hurt. To save us from costly lawsuits, is there a quick simple way you can keep the truck seeming like a cool off roader while hampering the owners' desire to actually take the truck off road?

There are no factory recovery hooks available on the 4Runner.

I believe this was debunked and the person showed an image of the entire undercarriage of a 4runner.

    Can't find their post though.

Edit: A Google image search leads me to believe you are right.

They do have these tie down loops but the debate about whether or not they are "rated recovery points" rages on. My GX for reference.
Edit: I do use the tie down loops tied together with a tree saver or tow strap and snatch block when winching to spread the forces.

You are right, they are not considered "recovery points". However, people use them all the time as such and I have not heard of a failure.

Just don't use the tow points at over 50 mph and the air dam won't deploy.

Hard to go from tow hooks on my HO Cummins to this. They weighed 11 pounds. Each.

Saw a 2.5 Gen having get pulled out of a snowbank by an F-350 at the grocery store today. Apparently he couldn't be bothered to wait for a parking spot, or drive to the upper lot, so made his own parking spot in a snowbank only to find out afterwards that he was further into the snow than planned. Wish I'd have grabbed a picture. Tow hooks wouldn't have mattered for him as he was getting pulled out by his tow hitch. Personally, I'm with Coal Dragger, I'd have left him there. One of (too) many out of town idjits running around here in the mountains.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Unfortunately without very good recovery gear, and training there is just too much risk to my vehicle trying to recover some rando or be recovered by some rando.

How hard would it be for a company like rough country to fabricate a bracket that has weld nuts on existing frame holes to establish mounting points for d shackles. Probably cost $100. And how many of us have ever needed to use them. Much to do about nothing if you ask me……but carry on

I mean most of the people who care about recovery points are probably gonna put an aftermarket winch bumper on anyway

You don’t have to be a hard or off roader to need them. Pretty much any one that hunts and fish a lot down muddy roads, would like to have them just in case.

I like the ricer tow hooks where you pop out a little cover on the bumper and attach a tow hook inside. Thats what Toyota should do here plus you can get it up high so you dont have to get down into the mud.

He forgot to mention the extremely superior approach angle of the Tundra there.

I would argue that they should be lobbying for half a brain cell between the lot of them before they asked for tow hooks……stupid is as stupid does
