Just dropping in to say hello from Northern RI

Went to have the oil changed in my lease end Tacoma yesterday and ended up trading in for a Tundra. Wasn’t an easy decision as the Taco was awesome plus I’d had her from new. The Tundra is a ‘19 double cab and added the extra room and size I was looking for (still couldn’t find it in that Tacoma :notsure:) with an active family of 5 and travel trailer.

I am open to comments suggestions and plan on learning as much as I can about this truck. TIA look forward to chatting! Happy New Year all!

Thanks! Still in that phase of “what the hell did I do”. But overall feel like it was the correct move.

It's interesting how folks make decisions. I endlessly agonize over the purchase of a new vehicle (probably why I still drive a 2000), while others visit a dealership for an oil change and drive away with a new vehicle. I figured as I got older and financially secure I'd change but that has proved to not be the case. I envy folks like you.

    Enjoy your new Tundra.

I went from a 2016 Tacoma to a 2021 Tundra for the same reason… needed the room for 4 adults and it just wasn’t happening in the Taco. On long interstate trips, it’s the way to travel; especially having the ability to lookover the cars in front of me and being able to see way down the road. Not sorry I made the change.

Thinking about a boat and the Tundra is better suited than the Tacoma. The dogs have more space too. Welcome.

The Tacoma is an excellent truck but the Tundra is superior in many ways. And in your case OP with kids and a travel trailer it’s a no brainer…

My wife and I were questioning a little after we purchased ours but after the first “family” trip, it never crossed our minds again. We have two huge car seats in a DC and it’s still better than my old 2012 Taco and 2017 4Runner…

    Congrats and welcome!

Presumably you were going to say pics? Lol

I got in after dark last night and didn’t have an opportunity. Will work in it. I know how we all can get!

This is me usually, researching breaking down over analyzing and ending up never making a decision. I’ve gotten better as I’ve gotten older, realizing that realistically any one of the terrible experiences with any product could happen. It goes without saying research has its place. I had gone into the dealership planning to discuss my lease end options so I wasn’t completely blindsided and was somewhat prepared.

did you end up in crew max or double?? I’d previously thought that we would only all fit in the crew max but after sitting/driving in the double cab I was surprised. The rear doors are so deceiving.

I almost entertained leasing a ‘22 but they wanted too much down to make the monthly payment comfortable and the residual value still would have made me need to either renew the lease or get into an even higher payment. I almost,in trade on my Tacoma, received original sticker price so I figured why not put it a used truck.

thanks for the welcomes folks!! Stay tuned for pictures….

Ended up buying a CrewMax. Looked at the double and it has more than enough room, but since this is probably my last planned Truck purchase I decided to go with the CrewMax.

Congrats on your Tundra… truck looks like it is in great shape! Would suspect your going to see a difference from the Taco when towing the trailer!

lord this is so me. Minimum 6-8 months of research and pouring over available used options to feel out the market before backing off and waiting another 3 years. Still have my 2000 also, but finally pulled the trigger on a 2019 in November. We bought a sizable travel trailer and needed the increase in capability. It was just time. 16 years is a long time to own a vehicle as a daily. But I wouldn’t have bought if we didn’t get the large camper.

Not sure how new to the Tundra you are but I'll say this--hit the tow haul mode button and go for a spin. You'll thank me later.

Welcome from the land of sweet tea and AC on Christmas day.

I sorta had the same thing happen: had a 2018 Subie Forester manual, AC belt snapped after dealer fixed a recall, so Subie fixed it, and my kids (under 6 both of them) were like, daddy are you getting a loud truck (bad experience from loud and low quality boom box on the roads) so I went into Toyota to look around. Traded in my Forester (it was a buy-out lease-end, but I love the manual) for a bit higher than market but still under sticker and got the 2021 CM, only regret which now I am ok with is that it was not a 4X4...
Wife was mad, wanted me to trade it in (at less than 500 miles at the time) for a Taco, saying we don't need something this big. After a few trips from Houston to Dallas and towing a 33.5ft RV, yea, this is the one to get. Enough space for my kids in the back and certainly good for towing. Now at 8K miles, loving the truck..... just need to lock my bank account to stop me from ordering all the parts I want....lol

Have you performed any mods to the truck for towing? Your trailer is far larger that mine, GVW 4900 (430lb hitch weight)and 23ft, with a WDH, I’m fairly confident I should be fine as is.
