I pretty much joined this forum BC of PHM, I liked his approach and tutorials. Obviously he offended the wrong people, sucks. Now, I have a question for the pro's? My 2000 SR5 has power locks and windows from the factory. Does that mean I should have factory keyless entry? Truck came with no fob and the actuators don't work.

 

You guys need not mention his name....I feel it brings the 'ban gods' nearer when they hear it!

That and we’re pretty active, I know it’s a different beast, but the 4runner page had very little activity for the 1st and 2nd gen platforms, but the 5th gen pages were wild fires. We keep up with the best of them and keep advancing things in these old trucks with limited support(threads)
And that’s the other thing, a lot of the 2nd gen guys used to have 1st gens………..in a lot of ways, I think they miss them and come back for the memories and nostalgia.

 

Damnation. Thats what I figured. Any suggestion for a keyless entry setup? I don't really care to have remote start. Another question I have- Are first gens prone to be stolen? Never hear anything about it. What kind of security setups do you have?

 

I think location has more to do with theft than vehicle type.

 

I agree. We are close enough to Houston that we get some of the riffraff. Years ago I had a 2001 f150 broken into in the HEB parking out. Ignition was jammed but the computer chip key saved me.

 

I put a generic keyless entry off of eBay on mine about 13 years ago. Still works great. Only locks and unlocks the doors. Paid about $14 for it.

 

You may have it already, but if not maybe scalp the VIP RS3000 or VIP RS3200 from another truck. If you have it, the module is usually behind the driver kick panel. My 99 taco had the RS3000 and a glass break sensor. I don't believe any of my RS3200's came with that option installed

 

While hunting for my 3rd brake light post for @shifty` I happened to notice an additional connector on one of my old pictures



Hmm, a spare connector on the passengers side kick panel? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm and a stud to mount some kind of control box???

Well, after my Friday junkyard run, I may be oulling the glove box on the V6 just to see what kind of wiring fiasco is actually in there.

Honestly I probably would've been posting, but I was scared to go in this thread and the WDYDT thread just because I knew after 3-4 days incognito hanging out on the farm, It'd take an an hour to get caught up on each thread. I finally broke down today before it got too bad. Still need to work through the WDYDT thread tho.

Small tip: Toyota typically used white w/black stripe on grounds for many interior parts. In all likelihood, that's genuinely a legit grounding spot, where multiple grounds for diff't systems terminate to chassis. Also note the other bundle of all white wires w/black stripe connected above/over from it.

When pointing out that rando connector, I was more interested in the one that's just hanging out over there just left of it but the colors aren't ringing bells.

 

The stud is now pointed out, and yes. I'd bet money that's a spot for a 4WD thingamajig

ABS fuse good.
No CEL.
For shits and giggles I pulled all of the electrical connectors on the booster, blew them out with air and gave the pins a little fresh dielectric grease.

Lights were out on startup and haven't came back all day, we shall see.

 

Hmmm not real sure which is which as there are no engine code labels that I've seen yet. Two options. A.d.d relay or transmission control relay.

 

Looking at the one pic of the "donor" truck... looks like pass kick panel is intact so odds are good that I will be able to tell.

that connector likely goes to the 4x4 computer (likely a transmission relay on the v6..). YOU MUST GET ALL THE 4X4 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FROM A V6 TUNDRA. the v8 is different.

 

So this donor truck will not work for totality of the system. Bummer. It does have a lot of the parts.

They claim to have a complete 2002 tundra v6 4x4 wiring harness. Listed price is $475 with $35 shipping.

I asked for pictures via email and they claimed it was still installed on the vehicle so no pictures.

Getting a scammy feelin, but if others have used them with success...

2000 Tundra 4.7L w/ 180k and newer refurb engine from a 2003. I have codes for all cylinders misfire, so thats p0300-p0308. I also have a rich code bank 1, p0172. (check engine light comes on and goes off sometimes too)

The truck runs fine 99% of the time. Occasionally it will shut off at low idle, usually about to park it or coasting slow in reverse.

I also just started having some rough or slow starts with tailpipe smoke and strong gas smell. I had to hit the gas pedal to get it to start today, but that was after I had already started it once and then shut it off.

I suspect some leaking or stuck fuel injectors?? Maybe leaks when the truck is resting????? Any quick or cheap fixes to start?


I have new fuel filter, new MAF sensor, 8 new platinum plugs, all denso ignition coils (4 brand new to replace cheap chinese ones), new paper air filter, new PCV valve, and a clean throttle body.

 

We love it.
