In other news, tapped at least one wire correctly for my tailgate lock. It now properly locks. Every time, even with the unlock pulse. I think I may have one wire correct and the other incorrect but not sure. Instructions say to locate blue with white stripe (found) and black with blue stripe (not found). I did find black with yellow stripe which is what I'm using right now. It does appear to see some change on the lock/unlock pulse via my multi-meter. I'll have to probe it more when it stops raining.

I also may have botched the install in the handle so I might take the lid off to see if it's popping properly and just not attached correctly.

Interestingly, online generic doc for 2002 indicates white/green and red/yellow for lock and unlock respectively, but that may be the pulse from the switch rather than the pulse to the motor which is what I want to use.

Then the online version of these installation instructions indicates different colors (granted my instructions were printed in 2000 it would appear) but refer to 1999-2003 with pink/black and red/orange.

1999-2003 locate the Wirinig harness leading to the left door and attach one of the blue connector taps to the Pink/Black Stripe wire and another one to the Red/Orange Stripe wire. 2004-2006 Black/Red Red/Black striped.


I did switch my T to 2x16TXL so it has adequate beefage. Kind of fun trying to get this stuff going, feels like I'm close, but don't remember seeing pink or orange.

 

Thank You! No, we went with the Eibach coils. 190k on the truck so even if the coils and shocks had been replaced before, we figured it was time to freshen them up. The ride is pretty good so far, even with the E rated Coopers.

Being that the truck is 2wd, and a street queen w no plans for off roading, we stuck with the OEM upper control arms for now. But, I would not recommend that choice if you need to travel rutted out dirt roads, as the spindle contacts the springs at full droop. We'll see how the alignment goes and if the UCAs will need to be upgraded. I told my Son no messing around, or he'll be smacking shit around under there and break something.

 

I got some of the transmission bolts out. I will bring my Sawzall next time to cut that damned skid plate out of my way. I created what I HOPE is a deterrent for other people hoping to get this transmission. But then again odds are if they pulling it then they aren't a complete tard...



I broke the metal lines coming out of the couplings from the transmission. I figure I can just reuse my existing eventually.


The couplings on the transmission are still intact so I think this is OK. All the harnesses are disconnected... just gotta get the bell housing unbolted and torque converter. Oh, and remove the pretty floor shifter from up top in the cab.

Pretty excited about this new adventure. Wish I had been better prepared today, but was without help mostly even though I brought others.

I was very happy when I did this too a couple of weeks ago. Getting hit in the head gets old very fast especially when you are trying to load something.

 

That happened to me last year. I had purchased some of that fancy braided hose and it dry rotted around the clamps. Fortunately, it mostly happened in the driveway. Stick with oem or Goodyear hose I think for now on.

 

Easier day than Noah’s, I wasn’t checking in during that plight, but I don’t think I would have been much help. Did some minor wiring and got the first light running off the switch pro. Rear end jewel hitch light.

 

If its like the V8 there's a module you need thats behind the passenger kick panel. You may also need to extend the harness for your speed sensor, I know on the V8 its about an extra 3 feet of wires for that.

Look for @Thrussn build, he may have documented where that module is.

It's so unbelievably badass, I can't get it out of my head.

 

Taking one more shot on the HVAC/center console LED green lights. The Philips 6k bulbs fit the gels. However, there doesn't seem to be an LED in T5/74 that I can get the smaller gels on. However, I found some amber bulbs, which I think will look good with the 168/194 green LEDs.

Drove about an hour to go pick up a used chipper/shredder because I'm in the process of cleaning and clearing out a lot of brush and trees in my backyard. This made a 20 hour job into a 4 hour one so worth the 2 hr roundtrip. Also first long(ish) drive with the defenders ltx m/s. Really nice. Got 12.8 mpg on this last tank. Back to amber corners and parking lights up front. The chipper made it back with the top still on the truck. Just had to unbolt the two hoppers.

Bonus. Now I can make free mulch and I have a bunch of firewood. My rack is full again.

 

Once in a while packages arrive early. Obviously this wasn't sent via FedEx.

Let's have a look up the skirt, nothing fancy about the basket but thats quite a lot of magnet.


Here you can see that the rubber surrounding the magnet is pretty thin. I've seen some speakers use thick ones to give the appearance of a huge magnet, not the case here. These are heavy fhuks.


Tecate for size reference. I'm starting to doubt they will fit in the truck front doors. If they don't I'll save them for the Beetle.

 

I've not heard of this brand. They any good? I wanna upgrade my speakers again cause I just got cheap ones to replace the blown stockers when I got the truck.

 

I'm going out on a limb to say those will pump. Magnets are bigger than the damn speakers, and anytime they use dual terminals, they are asking for more. Rubber (word?) surrounds (word?) not foam. Good luck, should be great. What is the sensitivity?

 

They've been around for a long time. They're pretty popular among Tacoma guys. I've only heard these once before and they sounded pretty good. I'll write up how they are in my build thread once these have been in for a month or so, I don't always trust first impressions.

89db should be good enough. I'm going to run 75w rms to each. When I take my panels off if these fit up front I'm gonna see if they fit in the rear doors too. If so I'll order another pair for the back. I was going to run Sundowns but changed my mind last minute, hopefully I don't regret that.

Got the new nut from my local stealership for 3 bucks (List price $6.50). Lock tite and torqued down. Checked other side of lateral link and what do you know, also loose. Good thing the nut stayed on that side. Rechecked all bolts on links and bars. GTG.

 

I've always heard Image Dynamics is good stuff. Looks skookum as frig. I bet those will thump nice. I'm jelly.

Sprewells will be loaded up in the AM and I’ll get them on tomorrow at work. Just couldn’t convince myself to do it in my driveway in 38° and drizzly rain.
