Many bitched about the 2014 2.5 reboot.
Mostly because it used many of the same parts of the 2007 and up.
It was the same truck with a few different exterior and interior parts.

Owning a 2005 DC, I didn't like the 2014 either when they came out, too big and gaudy lookin'....

But when my 2005 took a hit beyond me wanting to keep it, I traded it in on a 2014 in December of 2014.
I never looked back, although I do miss my 2005 for sentimental reasons.

Some of you complaining about the front end and physical appearance of the 2022, I can and will tell you the truck looks better in person than in the pics.
When you see the WHOLE package, instead of grille pics, it all comes together nicely.

I plan to keep my 2014 for 5 to 7 more years and buy a gently used Gen 3 when I'm ready to pay cash for it.

As @OnespeedTRD stated, aftermarket parts for the Gen 3s will come around soon.

    Y'all don't like and don't want one, that's fine.
Good luck with your next Big 3 pickup, get an extended warranty on it..

I'm on my 3rd Toyota after owning just about everything in my 59 years.
I've had fewer problems with my Toyotas than anything else I've owned (Ford (2), Dodge (1), Chevy (3), GMC (1)), except maybe the 1980 Honda Accord and the 1992 Nissan Pathfinder.
No issues with either of them, see the connection..

Eh when the time comes my next truck will likely be a midsize anyway so it doesn't matter to me. That being said I'm not getting rid of my current 2.5 gen I've decided, I'll just keep it as my dedicated offroad rig.

Ive yet to get a close up look in person. Our local dealer got a couple in and i rode thro the lot and saw it but a few people were checking it out so i didnt stop. The sport model with the color match grille in particular the blueprint color with the lift kit in photos going around look incredible. I honestly dig the front end. The headlights look sick. That being said due to this being the first year of a new gen ill likely wait until the 2023 or 2024 rolls out. Im enjoying my 21 and got a pretty great deal on it but i cant help but be a bit jealous of those who already picked up the 3rd gen.

Well I was going to try and get one, but the dealers here are all marking them up. I always pay under MSRP, not over it. So I decided to buy a used Tundra instead.

I think based upon what I've seen, the BEST thing about the 2022 is that it finally brings the Tundra into the 21st century. The outgoing Tundra like mine is a complete joke on the interior. Cheap plastic everywhere. More rattles and noises than a haunted house. The "interior upgrade package" still leaves out things that are pretty much standard on mid-level Rams and Fords. Things like a leather steering wheel, heated steering wheel, heated seats, push button start, auto climate controls, adjustable pedals, proximity entry, more information in the dash screen, reverse camera zoom for trailer hitch, etc. etc. From what I've read, the 2.5 Gen Tundra only offered some of those things, and only on the top of the line trim. The 2.5 Gen also kept the archaic hydraulic steering pump and mechanical cooling fan, both of which hurt fuel efficiency and make the truck drive in a more old fashioned way. The 2022 finally brings this modern creature comfort and convenience to the SR5 trim to compete with other brands.

Aside from that I'm pretty happy with the 2016 I bought.

idk how many miles yours has but I have zero rattles in my interior and I offroad the heck out of it , 75k on the clock. In regards to driving like an old truck, well I feel I speak for most who own a 2.5 gen, that's why I bought it. I didn't need all the , and this is not to insult you but imo, extra fluff. I appreciate that it's an old school feel and feels like a truck and not a car. When I used to drive my wife's old f150 to me the drive feel felt more like driving a van. I have a Limited, so I have heated seats and auto climate which are nice , but I didn't go seeking it out, just what the truck I happened to buy had. But I am also very much a everything you need nothing you don't kind of guy. The only splurge I really wanted to have which I got in my current tundra was leather. All the gizmos you listed are mainly stuff that goes out prematurely and causes problems which is likely why toyota avoided it until they felt they mastered the formula for reliability. I know ford sure hasn't mastered it even though they had all that crap for years. But again simply my opinion.:tumbleweed:

The rattles part is obviously a lie and also par for the course in a domestic. Most of those features are available on the SR5 TRD Sport and TRD OR, which are hardly top trim levels.

It's actually the most rattle free truck I've ever had. 75k in and it still drives like a new truck steering suspension and rattles

I agree! I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado for my work truck and a 2014 Tundra and the Silverado makes so much noise compared to my Tundra. My Tundra does have a little squeak when on rough roads under the dash near the windshield but that's all I've ever heard.

Well since nobody believes that my one owner meticulously cared for 2016 Tundra rattles like a spray paint can I will shoot a video. But it'll be a couple days because the console lid which is coming apart is at the upholstery shop currently being repaired which also I've never seen on a Ford or Ram. Stay tuned.....

All these things could also be said about the 3rd gen Tacoma, but the 2nd gen folks on Tacomaworld.com keep on hating 6 years later, lol.

The mods seem to be cracking down here on the 3rd gen trolling and that should help. They piled on with the trolls on Tacomaworld and that was part of the problem imo.

Yeah but the Tacoma fans still have a valid rant about the current Tacoma because the 3.5L V6 is not well suited to the task and the old 4.0L was demonstrably better in most ways for truck duty, particularly torque output and delivery.

My back window had an annoying rattle when new that they fixed. The steering still vibrates on and off but not as bad as new. I took it in 3-4 times until they pulled the "it's normal" card and I gave up.

I agree though that when I looked at used trucks, the Tundra seemed to age better than Ford, Chevy and GMC.

Thanks for immediately proving my point. 5 years from now the 2.5 gen Tundra diehards will still be beating their chests about the V8 and how it's a work truck vs. the girly man 3rd gen. Wait and see.

Maybe but considering the V6tt gets more torque and HP it'd be hard to make that argument. I think it's more likely going to be about reliability. The new Tundra drives really nice and I'd love one but couldn't imagine spending that kind of money.

My neighbor had a raptor. It spent almost as much time in the shop as in use. Transmission issues, electrical issues, and suspension issues. He dumped it and ordered a RAM. He still has not received it yet and it's been like 4 months..

Truck market is insane right now.

I think the only way I would consider a Ram or Ford would be if I could replace it before the warranty ran out.

Oh no doubt they will. However their complaints are invalid and stupid because the new truck outperforms the old one in every measurable performance, towing, or hauling metric.

More power, more torque, more payload, more towing, better fuel efficiency.

They can complain about the interior being a bit smaller on paper, but that’s bitching about car stuff not truck stuff. So they can sit down to pee when that nonsense starts.

If the 3.5L Tacoma made better low end torque than the old 4.0L the Tacoma guys would also have stupid arguments. When Toyota crams a 2.4L turbo 4 in the Taco and it pumps out over 300ft-lbs at 2000 RPM and makes 290hp or so the Tacoma guys can wax nostalgic about the mighty 3.5L V6 which will suddenly reach sainthood. Then they’ll be stupid too.

I have been a Chevy guy all my life until I had a RAM. Almost went back to Chevy but bought a Tundra. I think I will never have anything but a Tundra now.. Very Good vehicle that tends to be problem free and retains it's value like no other...

Not saying I don't believe you , it may very well rattle like a tin can, but if it does it may not have been near as meticulously cared for as you may have thought when you bought it. I'm assuming since you said you almost bought a 2022 but bought the 2016 instead that you recently purchased it..... so it may just be that they beat on it the last 6 years. Ultimately if you don't know the owners personally , one owner doesn't mean a whole lot, and even when you do know them sometimes it doesn't mean much more. I have a buddy with a one owner 2018 silverado..... which he has caught significant air in, carfax looks golden though lol:mudding:

If I'm behind farmer Brown doing 50 in his beater pulling hay on a two lane and I need to pass, I'd way rather be in the 3rd gen Tacoma. And how much low end torque do you need in a midsize truck? It's not like you're pulling stumps or towing a front end loader with one.

It's all just somebody's opinion. And you know what they say about those.

I've been a Toyota guy since I bought a 2003 Corolla in 2005 and I've only replaced a starter on it in almost 200,000 miles and then I was hooked, then owned a 98 Tacoma, 2005 sienna, 2005 highlander hybrid and now my 2014 Tundra. Still have my Tundra, sienna and Corolla.

I don't really understand why more contractors don't use Toyota considering the resale value of Tundras. My Chevy is worth about 3500 right now and I'd bet that the same Tundra would be worth 15-20000. Seems like a better investment to me.

The problem with the tacoma isn't the engine, it's the God awful automatic they have. Drove a trd sport access cab with the 6 speed manual and that was a fun truck to drive. The auto transmission is just garbage

Yeah, I'm not gonna debate the Tacoma. I'm over that. My only point is people are dreaming if they think 2.5 gen Tundra owners won't keep trashing the 3rd gen. I have my own theory why that I'll keep to myself.
