    Hi folks,

Great site you have here! I have been looking and not finding the info i need.

I live in western PA where the winter road salt just devours cars n trucks.

I scored a southern 2006 tundra with high milage (200,000 ) and no real corrosion. Its 4 full door, 2WD with the 4.7 V8.

The reasonable purchase price is being offset by the recent failures.

The rear end started making bearing noises. My local guy had me get a new wheel bearing, then found somebody had put a wrong bearing in and it spun in the rear end and naffed up the axle housing.

I've been looking for months and the local salvage yards are not helping at all.

What rear ends will swap out with this one? Sequoia? 4runner SR 5?
    Will 2000 to 2006 interchange?

Since it is not 4wd, i am not concerned with the gear ratio.
I saw a post that the ABS pickups changed one year....

    Thanks

    Mark

Sequoia and 4Runner are coil spring and disk brake... so would require modification to work. Not sure about the input shafts though.

Don't know which bearing but would it be possible to have the housing bored to have a sleeve installed that would fit the standard Toyota bearing?

I haunt Craigslist, but to no avail thus far.

I am amazed at the prices these trucks command, but moreso the prices of parts.

    Wowsa!

Got a 2003 Tundra rear end located in eastern Ohio for 600, and i have been balking on that price until i found out if it would line up without excessive mechanical buffoonnery.

First thing I'd do is find an new local mechanic. Your guy does not know Tundras.

The rear end started making bearing noises. My local guy had me get a new wheel bearing, then found somebody had put a wrong bearing in and it spun in the rear end and naffed up the axle housing.

Tundra bearings do not seat in the axle housing like a Ford or Chevy 8.8. The bearing resides in a bearing cup that is bolted to the axle. If an undersize bearing was used, you'll just need to buy a new backing plate for $100 from a Toyota dealer parts counter. Aftermarket are available for cheaper, but are cheaper in quality as well.

    @Markshere2

If it's just the part posted above, I'd grab one from a junkyard and get the bearing swapped out. The axle shaft above is pretty cheap and when I had my bearing swapped by a very knowledgeable Toyota shop labor was only $100 (I pulled the axle and took it to them)

Also, the bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft and basically fits right into the backing plate. So maybe your backing plate is fine and he just thinks it’s loose. It’s kinda a little puzzle putting it together to keep the bearing in the backing plate while getting the bearing to the right spot on the axle - unless you have the special tool for the press.
