hey guys I'm new to the page and the tundra world. i just bought my first the other day at a non toyota dealership. its a 14 cm 5.7 w/39k and when i got it home i noticed some oil recedew behind the passenger wheel, after further investigation i noticed more oil on the undercerriege. should i take this to a toyota tech and have it checked out first or take it strait back from where i got it and try and get my money back? N.Y. has a 5 day return on vehicles so i should be covered. here are some photos maybe someone can verify for me
    passanger sideIMG_2637.jpg
driver side doesn't appear to have it but may be wrongIMG_2640.jpg
any help will do. Ill be really disappointed if this is the case because I've wanted a tundra for years and love this one other than this possible issue.

I would get it covered. That isn't a cheap job. Vehicle should under the 5/60 warranty.
Sucks man. I seen no oil on mine at 60k.

It sucks man, but at least you caught it before hand.

You can go either way. Have a Toyota dealership cover the cost of repair or turn it back into the dealership you purchased it from.

I'd take it to a Toyota dealer since it should be covered under warranty.

As @matluth stated I'd take it to Toy dealer mon/tues am and get it diagnosed. May not be under warranty.

You'll then be armed with the information to make an informed decision.

It would also be in their system for such a problem and the next guy purchasing would see it documented in the event you pass on the car.

Any updates? Returning the truck and getting another one doesn't guarantee that you won't run into the same problem down the road, so if it's covered under warranty and I was in your position, I'd push for a loaner or rental vehicle and get it fixed. If properly repaired, I doubt you'll see the same issue for the life of the truck.

How prominent is this issue with Tundras? Does it result in oil dripping onto the ground, or is there somewhere it pools which I should check periodically?

just an update turns out no leak at all. previous owner sprayed some sort of oil based rust prevention all over the undercarriage and wheel wells and some of it got up where the cam cover and towers are. feeling relieved! thanks for all the help!

I read about the robot applying the sealant or maybe the sealant was bad, had this issue been resolved? I have a 2017 made in February and was wondering if this is something I should keep an eye on or is it "fixed".

I'd like to know this too. I'm all paranoid that the first new car I ever bought will cost me more money down the road than my beater which leaked like a sieve.

Hopefully Tundras aren't going the way of the third gen Tacos...

From what I've seen from engine suppliers in the power lawn and garden world, if there's a misapplication of the sealant, the problem will make itself know fairly early on. I'd bet that any leaks related to this issue would become apparent before the warranty period ends so any repairs should be covered under warranty
