Bugging Out - Help with Ideas

This is 100% correct. In reality, the lone wolf will not survive very long. This is why our bug out plans involve friends who are willing to share resources and knowledge. We also have some in town friends who we have contingency plans for bugging in with, they're welcome here and us there kind of thing. Having a group with as broad a range of skills as possible is more beneficial than anything. I can weld and shoot, but I'm neither a farmer nor a combat soldier. Fortunately, I have a friend who is a farmer and another who is ex-SF in my prepper group. I teach them to weld and they teach me to grow a garden and be part of a recce patrol. As a team, we work well and can accomplish more than we could individually.

 

Yep, there is a good book that is loosely based on the report you speak of… the book is fiction, but the non-fiction afterword discusses the report commissioned by Congress. If you’re gonna prep, don’t do it half-assed… do it 100% full throttle.

It's a race between me and the one neighbor to see who can get his snowblower out first and do the other's driveway and sidewalk. I give him fish fillets, he gives me beer. It's great. LOL

 

This^^. We have a network of close friends with this same mindset. Metal work, carpenters, canners, gardeners, you name it. You want to have a SOLID network of friends to form the circle.

 

As for the med stuff, in a prior life I was a FF/EMT, and now on the LE side we get med training twice a year. I carry a TQ as well as a blaster just about every day. Wife is in the medical field also, and we have a good storage of medical supplies (stocked jump bag).

 

That’s awesome. Unfortunately just about everyone around me are of the “wait until the snow melts” mindset. My sidewalk and driveway is typically the first cleared. Lots of Teslas and hybrids in my hood!

 

We have monthly Neighborhood Watch meetings at the church across the street. Amazing how many folks show up. It's all about grassroots. No outsiders will get too far trying to take our things.

 

I live in a very blue collar town, surrounded by argiculture and oil/gas industry. There's plenty of useless trash and douchebags as with everywhere, but the majority are good people with a hearty can-do attitude with the skills and work ethic to back it up. I think I've seen one or two Teslas in town and the hybrids around are generally the in-town mommy-mobile while dad drives at least a 1/2 ton pick up but more likely a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel. There's more 4x4 trucks and SUV's here per capita than most anywhere I've been.

 

I want to expound a bit further on this. Our quite nice neighborhood is a hodgepodge of different cultural backgrounds, religious or not, race. One thing that unites us is we are all hard working family folks that want to protect what we have worked hard for. Amazing how that brings folks together....

 

Agreed. I don’t have time for the race bullshit. One of the nicest (edit: and most prepared) dudes in my neighborhood is not the same race as me. The like minded ones in my hood typically are those that realize crappy situations could happen (blizzard, tornado, hurricane, etc) and they have a general plan to deal with it.

 

Magazine laws! Sheeeit Law's in general are the last thing I'm going be worried about, if I have to bugout.

Automatic function has zero to do with mag capacity. Automatic weapons are very closely regulated Federally, in addition to whatever state laws there may be.

Just below the circled part, I see Ohio has a 30 round limit. That’s one state, correct? Again, to my knowledge few states have magazine capacity limits, you said most do, where did you find that info?

 

Go to Google Search and look up story about Christopher Knight who at 20 years of age left work in Massachusetts one afternoon and drove straight too Maine into the forest. He lived out there for 27 years stealing food and supplies from cabins in the area, nothing of value but allowing him to survive all those years. One guy who owned a cabin knew something was going on and made it his job to catch the intruder and finally did and is how the story came out. It may be an interesting read for you.

 

Look miss spoke, ohio does. I know automatic weapons are federal regulated. I just sold my Thompson M1 machine gun. Not going to debate the gun laws on a truck forum. I’m dropping it.

 

I really doubt someone’s survival will hinge upon whether their AR15 or pistol has super capacity magazines. Buy what’s legal and dont worry about it. You can’t bug out if you’re in jail.

 

Yeah dude, bugging out to the woods to be a petty thief and dirtbag is really only going to work for a small percentage of people. That’s during a “normal” time. If everyone decides to go live in the woods it’s not going to work for anyone.

 

For a second I thought we might be neighbors and then I realized you said it snows where you are. If you were my neighbor, I'd be sneaking you beef jerky and t-bones over the fence.
