The fact that the big three builds more vehicles does not play into the fact that they have more reliability issues. Most reliability reports I have seen list "problems per 100". I have owned several Ford trucks. 2005 ranger/ 2005 F150/2010 F150/2011 F150/2016 F150/2017 F150. The Ranger was awesome .Nothing but issues (I could write a book lol) w/every F150 I had. The 2010 had trans issues that I dumped w/5000 ish miles on it. The 2016 (5.0) had a serious engine knock w/less than 3000 on it and dealer took it back on the 17. All had random electronic issues however none left me stranded on the road They drove and road excellent and I really tried to like them but too many dealer trips. Never owned (never will) a GM product and am not interested in Fiat period. Have owned several Toyotas and never not once went back to the dealer. Last one was a 2020 CM Limited that I sold (7K over what I paid) and am anxiously awaiting for prices to normalize to get a2022/23 Limited or Platinum CM. Glad you are a big three guy and hope you have luck with whatever you drive, Merry Christmas to everyone

You get a new truck every couple of years? For some reason your opinion on reliability is lost on me..

Look up most reliable used pickup and see what your results are. I buy pickups by the decade.

Well with Fords I had to. Trying to find a good one lol. Like I said I tried to like the F150. I guess I was just a slow learner. I am 70 years old so ya I have had several new cars/trucks.

I’m not saying this to stir up any crap but at my work we have several Rams , Fords , GMs and 1 Toyota ranging from 2006 - 2021 and there’s only 1 that spends most of the time at the dealer . Funny thing is it’s not any of the big three . If I didn’t belong to this forum id believe that Toyota was over hyped .

Haven't seen it yet so don't tell us the ending but is that the opening line of the new Pinocchio movie?

Just because he takes his service repairs to a small town local mechanic shop doesn't mean it's reliable.

Exactly! I sometimes have had a pang or two of jealously riding in buddies F150 KR’s seeing this or that neat little feature, but then keep seeing them in rentals while it’s at the dealer with serious issues including engine , trans and 4WD. I have friends at both big 3 corporate and dealers, the corporate are all about sales, stock price, and keeping union under control. Dealers are not in the car sales business. They are in the consumer finance and service business. Those are the major profit centers vs. new car sales. The rebate systems to the dealers is bizarre. Selling you a truck that lasts 15 years with minor service is not good for either corporate or the dealers.

Toyota has far different policies. They run far more conservatively. They have not been through the financial disasters the big 3 have been and this has allowed them to be focused on a very long view of building profits by taking market share from others.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking . If you’re insinuating that I’m lying why ? I promise you I don’t own any stocks in the big 3 so it really makes no difference to me what people buy . lol
If I’ve misunderstood what you were saying I apologize in advance .

Sample sizes of one are less than reliable. Buy what you want.

I'll tell you I find it hard to believe. Not that the Tundra breaks down but the others don't. I know lots of folks an I live 5 miles from the old Lorain Ferd Plant. Heck, both of my neighbors retired from there and I can't think of one person who claimed theirs to be problem free. When I tell them the problems I had with Fords they agree and claim it's expected. My Toyota has never been to the shop in 11 years for anything but brakes. My old Prius never went at all.

It never actually breaks down . Just leaks , check engine light and stupid shit like that . The oldest F150 there is a 2008 , he just had to do the brakes on it this year . It was an expensive break job because apparently Ford makes the rotors and spindles one piece .

2021 Tundra drove the smallest (by a long shot), then the 21 f150, then the 22 tundra.

I’ve owned two and driven all 3. I might own a 22 tundra but it’s just too long and not attractive looking, although the more variations I see I’m stating to like some of them but they come at a cost of lack of features. . And the 21 Tundra wasn’t the right fit for me. Great truck but I needed better tech and mpg. Thus why I landed in the f150.

Just going to leave this here. Disclaimer - I am not brand loyal in anyway with family members who both love and loathe their various Big Three trucks. I drive a 2017 Honda Ridgeline that hasn’t let me down mechanically but leaves me wanting in terms of interior fit-and-finish. The amount of creaks and rattles drives me up the wall, and the double sided tape of the headliner fails repeatedly. But outside of the airbag issue awhile back, I don’t recall ever reading about massive recalls on Toyota’s.

Wasn’t there a recall for over 150k halogen Tundras and then most recently a good % of 2021’s?

There’s been many massive recalls on Toyota’s. My 2007 had 4 at least and 2 of which were big news stories. I never had any of them done except the spiral cable replacement. The others didn’t seem worth worrying about.

Right. Maybe one of those was the whole unintended acceleration thing, which was pretty big in the news.

    That wasn't a response to you...SIR.:D:oldglory:
    When I test drove 2010's the F-150 was at the head of the line because it was my favorite 'looking' truck; still is. Already had my 2006 4.7 Tundra sold, so I was comparing engine output between the 4.7 and Ford's 5.4 V8's. I tried every way possible to like the F-150 but there was nothing "extra" that I could feel with the 5.4 V8. When I pulled out onto the road,after warming up the Ford, I looked down at the park brake indicator thinking I left it on;
In the case that started that hoax,a drunk Toyota renter piled floor mats on top of the ones that were already in place causing the throttle to be depressed and the brake pedal to bind. The rear seat occupant had enough time to carry out a conversation with a 911 dispatcher but no one turned the ignition off, down shifted or tried the park brake. The recall was nothing more than UAW payback from what occupied DC at the time. "No Statistical Evidence" was found by investigators. Investigators who weren't bought, that is. Mr. Toyoda played right into their hands stating, "my company, my responsibility. The resulting "cases" were brought about by the same wastes of skin, who pile onto a bus AFTER the accident with injury claims. These accidents are still happening today and they're still caused be incompetent "drivers" behind the wheel. '

I am not aware of the history here but didn’t Toyota pay like $1.2billion for misleading investigators in this case?

Ummm, no they didn't. Instead Toyota sent each "black box" from the automobiles that were in accidents that claimed stuck throttle to an independent expert in the event data recorder and auto repair business for analysis. I personally know this guy, his repair shop, and still listen to his radio show on Saturday mornings here in Tempe, AZ. Anyway, of all the black boxes he analyzed only two were true stuck throttle events: the Lexus rental with the floor mat issue; and, a repair job performed incorrectly. All others were driver forced events where the throttle position sensor was reading WOT and the service brake was also being applied. The lawsuits were dropped and the media suddenly stopped reporting about it without, to my knowledge, a retraction or correction.

To be honest if I get another truck it’s more than likely going to be a F150. I’ve driven my grandmas 2017 F150 lariat super crew 2.7 and my grandpas 2016 f150 lariat super crew 3.5 a lot. The few things that stand out to me and matter to me are the ride, the amenities and the MPG. On top of a lot of smaller things. Driving from where I live to Seattle and back, a roughly 350 mile round trip my 2014 tundra got 14.7 the 2.7 ecoboost got 20. To me personally the only thing the 5.7 tundra had over the other brands is reliability. Every other way the big 3 are better. For me personally where I do more commuting then truck stuff id compromise and get the F150.

But not the tundra with the same or better mpg and all the new amenities?

Where does it get better mpg? I’d still prefer a lariat F150 over a limited tundra but that’s just off of looks and videos I’ve watched since I haven’t seen a new tundra in person. My personal preference would be the 2.7 EB because I don’t tow/haul. To be fair the ford is the only one I’d consider taking over the tundra.

Ford has the 2.7 that beats the tundra mpg but falls short towing.

The 2.7 is better and the 3.5EB is 1mpg better city and highway I think. Either way it is pretty damn close spec wise with the 3.5EB
