Probably answer I was looking for deep down, really liked the 2021 Tundra Pro, but when in my life can I be paid to drive a truck 10k miles! Had to sell it!

I didn’t read whole thread so apologies if I’m repeating anyone. I’ve had several raptors as work trucks. They had the 6.2L. They were quick, governed at 99mph and the suspension was really great for desert work. However, other than that it was just a truck. The front drivers hubs would seem to go out often ( we had a lot of them). They had some cool electronic features. I wouldn’t spend MY money on one. We had a lot of regular f-150’s w eco boosts, they had a lot of issues w the turbos, maybe because of desert environment. So I wouldn’t even consider one w the eco boost. I think the suspension is what really made it stand out. If there were no paved roads where I lived and I wanted to go fast I might think about a raptor. But that’s the only way.

This. The Tundra TRD Pro and the Raptor are not really meant to compete. The TRD Pro is a regular Tundra with some fancier shocks, wheels and skids. It's no different than buying a regular Tundra with the offroad package and slapping some Fox 2.0 coilovers on it. This is why I always thought the Pro line was kinda stupid because 90% of the people I see with them have aftermarket wheels and suspension upgrades anyways, so they essentially paid $5000 for the Pro badge only to throw away most of the stuff that made the thing unique in the first place.

The Raptor is another level. It's a long travel suspension with factory 35's/37's and Fox 3.1" Live Valve coilovers with long arm 5 Link rear suspension. It comes with a Torsen LSD in the front axle and a pretty sweet AWD/4X4 combo transfer case. To make a regular F150 or Tundra at the same level as a Raptor you are literally talking about $10-15,000 or more in mods. Probably more like 20-25k if you wanted to do it right. So if you can truly appreciate the Raptor for what it is, there is no question in my mind that a $7000 difference in price over the TRD Pro is completely acceptable.

But from the sounds of it, you simply just want a cool truck, and a Raptor will go unappreciated. The TRD Pro is more like a F150 Tremor competitor. The Tremor shares a lot of the features of the Raptor(torsen LSD in the front and transfer case) minus the over-the-top suspension goodies. If you build it right, the Tremor can be ~$55k which is considerably less than your TRD Pro and is just as capable i would say.

If you’re only going to have it for a couple of years, is it really a big decision? Play a drinking game and then flip a coin.

They are idiots and just wrote what Toyota quotes as max payload on the Tundra, completely ignoring trim and anything else that lowers it.

Unfortunately that would also probably end up the most costly option.

    Last 18 months I bought 4 new vehicles. 2019 F350 with BDS 6" and 37 Nittos, 2020 Jeep UL Rubicon Recon, 2021 Ram 1500, and a 21 Hyundai Sonata N line.
I'm waiting on the Trd Pro and toyota 3" lift.

Surprised someone would buy a Raptor as a work truck unless they just wanted one for themselves and used it as a business write off. Sounds like you had several and I would not trust employees to not drive it like they stole it! But I appreciate the feedback.

Never said they were in same class. Just been a Toyota/Lexus fanboy, and the Pro is the closest offering from Toyota.

We had a whole fleet of them. The idea being that there would be less maintenance with all the off road work. Didn’t turn out to be the case. Older guys took pretty good care of them. Younger guys thought they were trophy trucks. As soon as they went from assigned vehicles to “pool” vehicles they got trashed real quick.
Btw, included w that fleet was 1500 silverados, f-150’s w various engines, 3/4 ton fords, Chevys, a few dodge’s.
Ford and dodge sedans as well.

    I had the 2019 Raptor

    94FC81F1-A927-44DD-81AB-CE2F35B5C721.jpg
traded it because the build quality is crap and the cam fazers were falling apart at 5000 miles. Fords solution is to replace them with the exact same parts that fail over and over. I just took a loss on tint and ceramic coat and engine tune to get out while it was high value.

The tundra was 1/3 the cost of the Raptor and after 22k in mods I miss the Raptors power, stereo, leaky sunroof and the pretty but squeaky interior. But I don’t really miss the truck for truck use because it sucked to tow with and the bed was too short for work.

Agree! Still should have 12k left over for the supercharger with that though.

Edit: maybe not. 4k top, 4k lift, 5k wheel/ tire combo.

    10k? Left for SC

My Tundra has 5:29 gears, Lockers , full extended travel King suspension, control arms ,longer brake hoses, billet shackles , flow forged wheels , 35” tires, tint, color matched grill hood bulge , bumper spacers , pro ceramic coat .probably a bunch of stuff I forgot about. I use it for work so it pulls excavators drives to mines on washed out logging roads has the bed loaded to the top of the shell regularly.

My taco had around there into it. 099DA50B-ACC2-4301-BFAA-E03CE6F36183.jpg

My rule is if I don’t look back and smile walking away it’s time for something different. This tundra has been my longest owned vehicle because of Covid car availability and pricing over sticker.
I have had over 50 cars. But I won’t get a first year 3rd gen tundra ( after issues with my 16 taco). Maybe I will get a 2023 tundra hybrid or see what the electric ones are like.
