No.. But I saw the pics of a hunter who took a Kodiak coming out of his den. Killed the male that came out. While attempting to dress the male..The pissed off female came out of the den..grabbed by his head and drug him 60 yards before letting him go. Laws were changed in AK after that. "Can't take a Kodiak (or any bear in AK) waking up from it's den. Not a smart move to begin with and a "cheat to win" situation where you usually end up on the losing end.. In this case the Kodiak won.

Lock mod is not a mod. My Yeti had the same setup. My motto...."Try before you buy". No beer ever in that cooler. Only for food preservation. Bears will never get to my beer cooler. I do own firearms.

OK, had the Yeti 50L for a week now.
Academy cost me $417 inc. tax.
Three days later, seen the same box at the Sutherlands for $100 less!!, as I had used mine and applied logos etc, it was not returnable....
Moving on...I had a 65L Coleman for years until the clasp broke, so I bought a Yeti...BIG, BIG mistake...it does NOT do any better than the $50 Coleman...and it's not even near summer heat here in AR.
SAVE YOUR MONEY FOLKS....HYPE with no substance...just my opinion!...
    In summary, overpriced crap!

Have you read the prep techniques some of the guys mentioned previously?

I've always been disappointed in all coolers but it would seem, after reading their tips, that I've been doing it all wrong.

By the way..I started the thread hoping to get some beta. Thanks for adding your opinion too. I'm still not excited about paying high dollar for a freaking cooler but I've seen some great tips I'm going to try.

All about thermodynamics, prep and knowing what you are doing with a dry box hi end cooler. In summary.....science does work.

Not even close "brother". I've had a Coleman for years to chill my beer. Does your Coleman still have frozen steaks after 4 days????? Does your Coleman freeze beer when properly prepped???? Not...................You should have learned how to prep your Yeti. Same technique for any hi end cooler.

Not a all. I respect all "thoughtful" opinions. Calling something "Crap" is an opinion. Cool.Fine. Glad you love your Coleman. Can't have a pissing contest if there is no contest. Plenty of related thermodynamic science concerning cooler tech out on the web and you tube. 4 Wheeler mag did a fairly good review on several high end coolers. Most did well. Not a lot of difference between them. Coleman wasn't even considered for the test for good reason. If my new Sub Zero doesn't pass my prep test..it goes back. I'd easily go back to a Yeti but there are a lot of decent coolers out now like the Orion that @Almaboy is trying to get a group buy. . I hope my Sub Zero works out.

Quick checked my sub Zero this morning. Zero ice melt. Quite the contrary. Fresh cut Rib Eye mostly frozen now. This cooler/ice box so far is meeting expectations like my Yeti did. I'm inclined to think any decent roto-molded cooler/ice box should perform well preserving food with proper prep, GOOD SEALS, and minimal opening and closing of the lid. My Sub Zero came with extra weather stripping which I used for an even better seal. I'll open the Sub Z at noon and around six today, tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday to simulate the normal times I'd be accessing it for food. Not beer! If I had put a can of beer in...it would be semi frozen/frozen by now. Soda for sure frozen. If using your hi end cooler to chill beer..eliminate pre-freezing the whole cooler in a chest freezer. Frozen beer/soda sucks. Or use a separate cooler for beer/soda like I do since the lid is being constantly opened decreasing cooling effect rapidly. I'm not using the cooler to preserve beer but to keep it cold enough to swill over a few days. Worst case scenario is put more ice in it. I used my Yeti to store ice for my beer cooler a few times when too far off the grid. (hint...hint...)

FYI....Sub Zero drain plug on left..Yeti on the right. Identical except for gasket color...

Sub Zero Cutaway...typical with all roto-mold tech coolers..

@matluth has it right, purpose matters. Best cooler I own, this.
    DSC_3750.jpg DSC_3751.jpg

$30, Keeps 10 beers and 5 pounds of ice for as long as it takes to drink 10 beers. Only room for 6 empties, so minus points. $500 Yeti, sucks. Won't stay upright, tosses the beer around and sinks if you open it while the lid is partially submerged.

Now we're talking . I saw a large white/red fishing bobber cooler similar to yours. WAY cool..Maybe $50. Cool to tow behind your kayak/canoe. Maybe not with a sea kayak. May accidentally catch a Great White. Just sayin.

Sub Zero review update.... Added a pack of three more rib eyes. Adds more "thermo load". 1st rib eye is semi frozen now. A good thing. Still being preserved. Still no drainage from ice......

Sunday morning. Steaks still very chilled. Finally got some ice melt. Only about a cup of water drained out. Not bad at all. Blue ice pack still frozen solid. Easily a few more days of chilling left. Very pleased so far with this Sub Zero. Starting to look like a keeper.

You do know draining the water inhibits cooling right?

Of course, especially when you know you have a lot of melt going on, but I need to know how well this cooler is functioning. Very little water came out from ice melt. A cup. Not enough to inhibit cooling at all. The cup of water went right back into the cooler. I'm only accessing this cooler three times a day for a few seconds max at a time. Just long enough to check and take a quick pic.

Having caught a decent rock fish from a kayak, I believe the boat would be the bobber with a great white involved.

I have one of those bobber coolers (still in the box) I'll give you when I see you at ToyTec.

Even if you nevER use it I can still remove one more item from my storage unit ;)

I'm sure. It's been sitting in the storage unit for 3 years. If i haven't used it before now i'm not going to. I don't really do much "floating" these days and i don't drink much, so the beer bobber will be used by you much more than me. Cheers my friend!! That cutthroat might be caught regardless of the bobber. Is that your fish?

 ..."Is that your fish?"... Hell no. Wish it was. World record legal cutthroat.

"Wiki"...Pyramid Lake has been a source of big, record-breaking cutthroat trout over the years. Michael J. Sadar caught the current IGFA All-Tackle Length record (30.3 inches) on it on Nov. 15, 2014. The lake also produced the world record cutthroat trout for weight at 41 pounds way back in 1925.

What sucks is I've driven by Pyramid twice over the years. Had know idea the fishing was that good. Come to think of it, the fishing should be great. Pyramid Lake is in the middle of nowhere..........................
