No install date yet but curious if there's anything I should be doing to the truck pre-install, i.e., switching from 87 to 91 or 93, etc. I'm due an oil change as well. 57K miles in DFW on a '16.

Yeah like you said, should run 91/93 through it in advance and then try and time it so there is minimal fuel in the tank when you drop it off. It’s a huge reserve on my 38 gallon so I dropped it off with the gas light on. You could also have a wideband O2 sensor installed prior, and you should probably get new plugs right away for the install. If you’re in Texas probably IKH22 plugs if stage 1 and IKH24 if stage 2.

Thank you sir. Installer included spark plugs w/the invoice. I just filled up yesterday so I need to do some driving :) W/the 38 I typically have about 8 gallons when the light goes on.

Nice numbers! Do you have the Prospeed intake, or the factory Intake? I can’t help but wonder if the factory catback exhaust is at all a restriction also.

Factory intake still. Just an AFe dry filter drop in.

Did you get to drive it yet or is that just videos they sent you of the dyno? I’m curious how the driving experience differs.

Lol! Let me clarify…. How does it differ from the Harrop stage 1 that was previously run by @boringdriver?

Yes, I have the Powertrax. It's amaze balls, highly recommend. Don't notice it at all for regular driving, even tight turns at a gas station. But give it some power and it fully locks up every time. I've gotten pretty good at drifting stop lights if stuck in the intersection since you punch it and the truck does a lovely drift :D

I don't crawl the truck, and by the nature of the Powertrax it needs power to do it's magic so it's different than a locker that will lock up constantly and can be used going slow. The powertrax is definitely for those situations where you want to put power down and used enough power where you'd normally break traction, it's much more street oriented where as the locker it's essentially useless onroad unless you're constantly turning it on and off. The powertrax is passive and is there when you need it.

Ok then I must get it. I actually ordered one and told the dude to install it when I had it regeared. But he for whatever reason couldn’t get the axles back in and didn’t know what to do. So I told him to just leave it out and use the stock carrier. So talking to other shops. Just more expensive to have someone go into the rear diff AGAIN. But with this harrop and the truck being a complete animal, more traction is needed.

I got my black stone report back

will post it when I reach civilization

costco 0-20. 4200 miles on oil. This is the oil the stage 1 and 2 dyno runs we’re on

    came back super clean. Tbn=5

no metals. Since I didn’t change internals I kinda expected a clean report

however it also means no current bearing wear or ring gap issues. No fuel dilution or coolant in oil.

ill post the report in total when I can get to my damn computer

    y’all have a merry Christmas!!!

I desperately want a powertrax as well, I hate the open diff with the auto LSD. I had an Auburn in my 2010, but seems like the powertrax is the way to go this time around. I’m still waiting on my stage 2 upgrades! My truck was sitting at my mechanics for over a week waiting for him to get to it. He got covid so he didn’t touch it. Going to bring it back to him next week and try again. I should really be saving for a pole barn so I can do these upgrades myself, my priorities are all wrong I guess.

You’re a gentleman and a scholar lol… ya I’m going to see if I can tell the difference between D3 and VFtuner. After the holidays I’ll find a dyno and get numbers for them.

I am niether. They did me at the shop

    I don’t change tunes so I’m good

the stage 2 tune they did behaves well for my type of driving. I’ll bet there are higher hp tunes.

since my oil came back clean. I am now needing the mondo air intake thing

Laptop and tactrix adapter which is the same exact one VF tuner uses. I told them that and they said I could use the one I had so they didn’t charge me for that or shipping. So it saved me about 130$.

Man ok, so after driving around today here are my first impressions for D3's stage 2 tune, and software, customer support etc. For starters, their customer support is awesome. They are pretty responsive and easy to get a hold of. Their software is simpler than VF tuner but being simpler, you have less capabilities with it. However you can go with their "tune wizard" and install their dyno tunes that they have for the Harrop stages 1 & 2. When you install those you have limited options with those tunes like selecting tire size and gearing (which makes it simple). You can't make any changes to the file because you technically don't have the file to make changes to. Other than the two things stated above.

Now to the driving part. This is strictly me comparing my anecdotal experience between D3's Harrop stage 2 tune to VF tuner S/C tune pack. To explain some of the key differences real quick, the VF tuner file I got was not a dyno tuned file. From my understanding its essentially the TRD S/C file that has some changes to it that they feel is better than what Toyota puts out. Since I had the files I loaded the "+2 psi THX" because I had the 80mm pulley. The THX file has increased throttle sensitivity but you can also load the non THX if you prefer. Anyway, I had to make the changes for the gearing, tire size, and injectors. (All of that was actually really easy to figure out.) *sidenote because I had different gears than stock, I did also have to change my up shift points for when the accelerator angle was 85%+. (was also pretty easy to figure out)

But ya the driving thing. Both are really good. Power wise I don't know if I can tell a difference yet. Dyno will have to judge that one. The major thing I really noticed was the shifting. The D3 shifting felt normal. But the VFtuner shifting felt noticeably faster and crisper, which is something I really liked even for just normal driving around. One other weird thing, is the cruise control with VF tuner was a little wonky. It's not smooth for whatever reason, however you can make changes to those features; I just haven't dived into that yet. The D3 cruise control was perfect.

A couple things to touch on with VFtuner is their customer service can be a bit slow sometimes. I think Matt does most everything if not everything, so he is insanely busy and it can be tough to get immediate help if you need it. I do like that I actually have the file with VF tuner and can make edits to it. Right now I have to say I prefer driving it with the VF tuner tune. The way it drives just feels better. But since I uploaded the D3 tune, it changed my cal ID so it doesn't match my VF tuner files now. I have to get with Danish on Monday and see if he can send me something to fix that. Again this is just my experience/opinion and is not tuning advice. I'm still learning stuff.

Very good info. jives with my transmission 1-2 shift. it's better than stock, but still has a mechanical softness.

I added zero oil to it - as it has yet to burn oil.

since $26.50 for 10 qts fits my budget & I change oil every ~5k, Kirkland is now my lube.

I'm sure there are better oils out there, but this'll do.

Curious if anyone can educate me on the intercooler pump running after engine shutdown. I’ve always only locked the truck once when getting out but for some reason my wife has a bad habit of locking the vehicle twice. Not sure if it’s OCD related or what, but she says it shuts the headlights off if they were on after the second lock. I’ve tried explaining that turbos and superchargers need to cool after engine shutdown, but I realized I didn’t really know the reasoning behind it…at least not enough to speak intelligently about it. Can anyone shed some light on this so I can hopefully try to break this habit of hers shutting the intercooler pump off prematurely? Thanks guys!

    299.9k Supercharged 2008
My Magnuson only runs when the ignition is on, so instant key is out it's off, Harrop obviously is fancier then. I don't see the point of running after shut down for a supercharger, for a turbo they get insanely hot and you don't want the pump to stop when the turbo is still hot or it can fry the oil that's trapped in it. Lots of superchargers have no cooling at all, and since a supercharger isn't driven by a hot exhaust it runs a lot cooler in general. You can put your hand on the supercharger, you can't out your hand on a turbo. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a supercharger doesn't get hot enough where it needs further cooling after running where as a turbo can suffer damage if it doesn't cool to an allowable temperature.
